Good thougths for my son's heart needed for tomorrow

Its that time of year again, my son goes for his check up with his cardiologist. He was born with atrial septal defect and coarctation of the aorta. The aorta is now normal size and the holes in the heart wall are getting smaller. Last year he passed the point where he would need surgery if they didn't close. Was that a weight off of my shoulders! :) Tomorrow is his yearly check up. I would appreciate any "close holes" thoughts you can give. The holes are no longer a major health concern, more of a pain in the butt kind of concern. For example he needs anti-biotics for surgery, dental work or stitches. Not a big deal at all, but I would feel better that the holes and case was closed.

He thinks it is cool- he gets to see his heart on the computer screen. :cool: Much easier than trying to hold him down when he was a baby and toddler, that is for sure!

Good healthy heart vibes to your son, Chris! Both my sister and brother had that growing up. Eventually, all the holes closed up as they got older. I know how tense it can get for the rest of the family.

I had no idea Scott had heart issues too! No wonder we are so bonded. Trey has the same type of stuff. No coarctation but he has Dextrocardia where the heart formed on the right side of the chest rather than the left. He has been doing the yearly check up thing as well. Yes it is much easier now than when they were little and wirey!!

Trey's septal defect was a hole in the wall that separates the two bottom chambers and the last check up the doc said it was all closed up. I know you will hear more good news tomorrow. Give Scott a hug from me and tell him to enjoy the show.

uh...well, I am not sure about when Trey's check up is....I guess I need to call them up huh? They have a new Pediatric cardiologist that joined them and we have yet to meet him. One of the others passed away from a heart attack of all things. They are back to two peds Cardio's in Tulsa. Isn't that insane???

Well, same old same old... :)

The holes are getting smaller, there is still enlargement and regurgitation through the tricuspid (sp?) valve... he still needs the meds and be seen next year.

The dr gave Scott and Cait ultarsound pics of his heart, not that you can tell what it is though.
