I've just brought my first Crystal Ball but I don't have a clue how to use it except for the basics. This is what I've read so far... Sit in a dimly lit room with the light behind you, preferably a candle, and then begin to gaze into the ball until you start to "see" things :foh: :eyebrow: This is all very vague and I really need some help from those who use a Crystal Ball themselves.

Which part of the ball am I meant to gaze into? Am I meant to hold the ball in my hands or put it on its stand and gaze into it that way (without holding it)? Do I squint my eyes when I'm gazing, or just relax and find a spot on the ball to gaze at? Where should the candle be placed, behind me and the ball or in front of me and the ball?

Sorry for all the questions but I don't have a clue lol. I basically need to know all the basics :uhhuhuh:

Any help would be much appreciated guys

Have you used a mirror, water or wine to scry with? It is easier to practice and build up your ability for scrying with a mirror or a bowl before you try a ball. I would suggest that first.

If you have been scrying for a while, then using a ball is similar to using a mirror or bowl, but.... I put candles to the sides and farther away in front of my, NOT behind me. If there are no shadow or reflections in the ball, it's hard. Does your ball have a lot of occlusions? If not, that may make it a bit more difficult. I find if I focus on a certain occlusion pattern I see much better than just focusing on the ball as a whole.

I've been scrying for over 20 years and I still have a blackout every so often with my ball. In fact, for some things I would never use anything except for wine in my scrying bowl.

Good Luck!!

Thanks Khara :)

No, I've never used a mirror or water. My form of divination has always been Oracle cards and my Pendulum, so this is something really new to me.

My ball has no occlusions, none at all lol, so I guess that is gonna make it harder for me. You're not the only person who's said that. I've heard if there's already a certain spot/mark on the ball to focus on then it will be easier.

Do you hold yours while you gaze or leave it on its stand? Also, do you gaze into the top of the ball or around its edges?

Thanks again for your help!

since your ball doesn't have any occlusions, I would suggest focusing on the center of it.

I have always set mine down on something when using it, but I suppose you could hold it. The only thing I can think of against that is you will get tired of holding it after awhile and not really have your full focus on the ball.

For lighting, just keep it dim and the ball free of reflections. Nothing much more discouraging to see something in your ball and find out it was just something being reflected from in the room.

Hope that helps.

Now I like having reflections in a perfectly clear ball. That is why I put my candles to the side and far front.

I don't hold my ball, I set is on my coffee table and get down eye level with it. I put it on it's stand on top of a dark cloth. Lights off.

I have to ask, is this a manmade or natural quartz?

I do not have as much luck with my manmade ball. It just doesn't have a good kick. Not that others have not had wonderful responses with theirs.

I would suggest getting yourself a nice sized dark colored bowl. Mine is a serving bowl from a set of black dishes. I took permanent marker and put a few symbols around the sides with a focus dot in the bottom center. Practice focusing on that. Or make a scrying mirror. Rick posted an excellent how to long ago and that is how I made my mirror. It is easier to work with a ball once you are really comfortable with scrying with water or mirror. I will look for it and give you the link, it is taking longer than I thought, but it was years ago HA HA

You know those pictures that you have to look at "just right" and it seems you almost cross your eyes? That is about how the starting concentration is, then once the vision(s) start, you just slide right into them.

Thanks MidnightFire :)

I also feel more drawn to the idea of placing my ball down on something while gazing instead of holding it. Should I place a black cloth underneath ball and stand or will it be all right going on my bedroom carpet (still with stand)?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks Khara! You've just answered the questions I put out to MidnightFire so thanks for that ;)

I'm pretty sure it's man-made but I couldn't tell you for sure. I got it for a good price though so it's probably man-made lol.

I'm definitely gonna have a go with a bowl and see how that goes. In the mean time though I'm going to keep up with my Crystal Ball practice and see how that goes (especially since I have more of an idea of how things work now) :D

Thanks for all your help, it's much appreciated!

My crystal ball was lost when my apartment burned.

I would recommend skrying as a meditative practice before using it for divination. Use the crystal as a focus for conscentration: when thoughts intrude, let them pass unheeded and keep bringing your attention back to the crystal. This exercise is itself a wonderful practice, way beyond its benefits for improved clairvoyance and divination.
