I am not sure where exactly this thread should go, but here it is. I was meditating last night. Just basically going to some fictional place in my mind I call my safe place. Everytime I go there no one else is there just animals and nature. A woman walked into the area said "Freyja" and left. I am not sure what this meant. I was not searching for anything I was just meditating to relieve stress before going to sleep. I am new to paganism and have only been studying for about a month and haven't chosen a path. Any advice anyone can give would be appreciated.

This isn't about someone else trying to interpret the message for you :hahugh:

^This.

If you get anything that clear, be happy and run with it. Research the Norse ways and Freyja in particular. I'd also say to take a look at Anglo-Saxon mythology since they had some Freyja-devotion too.

I guess, after reading these two replies, my post was quite vague and I have come up with the specific question I am looking for the answer to. Has this happened to anyone else? If you feel like sharing that is :)

Certainly to me, and yes it feels weird the first time or two. I'd guess that many folks here have had the experience; my wife and I have a shared space where we go, and occasionally we'll both have the same experience, which is even weirder.

If it was that clear to you, my advice would be the same as that of the other replies; go with it. I'd add an additional piece of advice - as you're reading about Freyja, make some notes (if you're not keeping a journal yet, this is a good way to start). Then, when you feel ready, build another place based on the notes, specifically for interacting with Freyja, so that you can keep your peaceful place as it is. Of course, if she keeps appearing in that place, then that's where she wants to be and you'll just have to put up with it - there's probably a reason.

A friend uses my 'enclosed well' scenario as a peaceful place and once encountered a woman very similar to my 'Bright One'. He found it disconcerting so he told her to go away, which she did, and never came back. I've always wondered what he missed out on, but he's not at all bothered. Different strokes, I guess. :)

I've had similar things happen. Usually, it's just a single word I get. From a wolf or dog-thing. The one that stands out most is when he/she said, "Go." I eventually took it to mean "go home" and I guess that was right. I could be wrong, but everything's been pretty good since coming home.

I'd do what everyone else suggested. Start researching and see where it takes you.

I think, too, that you shouldn't get to hung up over the name. What I mean is, that you shouldn't start thinking of Freyja as your patron. Sometimes Gods just pop in for road markers, to give a little shove, that sorta thing, and you could be missing something bigger, better by focusing just on that one thing. :)

WillowPhoenix, this is very good advice.

You shouldn't make the mistake of just ... going with a deity the first time you get some sort of "sign" related to them or the like. If anything, it just means your subconscious may be vaguely interested in this deity. Or, it could be that something just triggered a memory or something, since I'm sure you've read/heard that name before, outside of spiritual matters.

Plus, if it's really a deity or pantheon or the like actually calling to you, I'm sure you'd get multiple signs. It seems like some Beings just don't "give up" if They've chosen you, you know?

Anyway, if you're going to research Freyja--or anyone or anything else--good luck and have fun.

They have their reasons, and those reasons might not become clear to us until days, weeks, or months down the road if ever. It's been my observation that if you are acting with earnest intention on a message they gave you, but you misunderstood what they want you to do, they will correct you and give you a nudge in the right direction.

Thank you all for the advice. Can I PM any of you to talk more I am still reading and learning, but need people to talk to who have been there.

I think, after talking to enough people, especially in places like these, you'll have figured that many have "been there." Of course, if you're seeking someone who's had a very similar experience to this specific meditation thingy, that narrows it down. So, depends on how specific you want to get, to figure out who you can/want to talk to. You can PM me, though I haven't exactly had an experience where I heard a deity's name while meditating, though I've oft been on the receiving end of "signs," among other things.

I want to talk about what I am reading, learning, and feeling. For instance, I grew up Christian. Since I have been reading about witchcraft and wicca, I have been thinking a lot about a new path. Sometimes when I think about it I begin to feel guilty and bible versus and the like haunt my head. I am sure it is voices in the back of my head from previous church dealings trying to keep on their path. If that makes sense. I guess what I can equate it to is hearing your mother's voice telling you not to do something.

Oh, I see, so you're wanting to discuss things a little bit more generally. Actually, if you use the Search function for the forum, you'll probably find topics that will be of interest to you. Others have posted about guilt, fear, &c. due to their having been Christian (or another religion) in the past but finding themselves attracted to other paths instead. I'd recommend trying the search to fulfill some of your desires. You can even post in those, even if they're old, and restart some conversation.

I don't know how much I would be to talk to, since my mom tried raising me Catholic...but it backfired on her because I've always been very independently minded. I don't even know that I consider myself truly Christian back then because I was always filled with doubt, or I had never felt I "experienced" what everyone else was (like the presence of God, for example). I'm still free to talk, but yeah.

I do not know if that is the case. I have been researching the norse pantheon and so forth, but I am giving it time to see what happens.

Good move.
I've had some experiences like yours, they make you doubt yourself, your sanity, etc.

If Freya has claimed you, she'll let you know. She's not shy.
