The Calafia Local Council of the Covenant of the Goddess (CoG) is having a Beltane Rite at Balboa park this Saturday, April 25 2009.
Gathering is at 11am and the rite held at 1pm. Loacation is between Pine Grove and Marston Point on the west side of the park.

I live in San Diego! I've been to Balboa several times actually :)
I'm very interested in what kind of are going to be included in the rite. Could someone tell me what to expect? I'm very much a noob in Witchcraft, and also a Christian Witch- so I don't think I'd join in the actual rite, but I'd like to observe! Also meeting some fellow witches would be great!
I'm so exited now! :boing:

Not too much to fear. This is a public venue so "sky clad" would not be prevailent. I, too, have not been to one of these put on by the Calafia council. Though I have been to others. Expect to dance around a "May-Pole". Well, just expect to dance... A Lot. Look forward to merriment and many merry meets and merry parts.
And participate in the rite. There's no harm there. Ur Christian, thus you are forgiven. (Not trying to be sardonic: I was Babtist once).
If you like, private message me and I will send you my phone number so you can call me about it. Ask Yvonne Belisle (a member here), we've been here a long time and she knows me pretty well.
Blessings,

Well I have no problem with dancing! I didn't know if there was an actual magick ritual and if there was I might have been uncomforatable with wording (although my beliefs and views are very open minded so it's rare). But as I said, I have no problems with dancing and being merry :) I'm exited about going and meeting everyone!

I have to be at work by 5pm but I will not miss Beltane. Since I have to go to work directly, I will be wearing a work-shirt. Most likely blue that reads "The Kebab Shop" (on the front) and, "Have you had a doner today?" (on the back).
If any of you see this, please stop me and say hello.
blessings,

I'll be wearing a light green handkerchief style skirted sun dress and black flats. I have pics up in my profile if anyone thinks they can remember my face :)

Then again I didn't realize how cold it would be tomorrow! Looks like my hopes of wearing something nice are dashed *pout*

Wingéd Mermaid, perhaps this might be an invitation to come out of your shell a little? Just carrying over from the other thread we were talking in, just let things happen as they will. Don't worry so much about what might be offensive to others, worry about what feels right to you. And while you're still in SD, I think Balboa Park is going to be as good as it gets, unless of course you considered yourself a sea witch x3

Well, I AM a mermaid ;) (see pics in profile) but the woods are much better than the beach.

Since you are a mermaid, you must be used to being half-naked in a cold, cold ocean. Wouldn't worry about what you wear then. It's Beltane, silly. Wear what you want, make a statement.
Since I have to go directly to work, I don't have that option. Otherwise, skyclad would be my choice. :jawdrop:

Actually I have yet to swim in this ocean in my tail. It's just so friggin cold! I'm hoping HI will have warmer water.
And I think I found another outfit that will keep me decently warm. Yay! Now I just need to get my butt out of bed on time. *curses sleep disorders* I think I just may pick up a nice cappuccino on the way there. Mmmmm. :D

Don't know exactly where, in San Diego, you are but, there's a really good coffee place called Java Jone on Ninth, between G and Market, downtown. Mmmm. Good stuff.

I would've liked to have gone, unfortunately, I moved back to TN in '03. Used to live down on Rosecrans St. in my office. Loved being about 5 minutes from the beach. And Balboa park is real nice, ten times better than the parks we have in my lil redneck town, lol.

Had a great time at Beltane rite yesterday. It's always good when you get to meet new people, especially if they are a MW member. Winged Mermaid joined me for the festivities and it was quite an honor to meet her: very nice woman I have to say.
The actual circle started about 15 minutes late but, WTF, we're Pagan. The May-pole dance was, as usual, chaotic and rather fun to watch. Lots of "door prizes" to be had ($1 per ticket or, 6 tics for $5). The Wing-ed one and I won nothing with our ten tickets but the drawing was rather exciting.
San Diego Pagan Pride made presence there as well. Pagan Pride is to be held at Balboa Park on September 12, this year. I for one am trying to get a spot on the entertainment side of pride but have yet to see. Check their web site for details at www.SDPaganPride.org.
In all, the Calafia council put on a good circle. All walks of life were there and everyone seemed to have a good time. They have some other events coming up and I will try to keep all of you San Diegan Pagans posted. I will most likely attend the Calafia Beltane again next year.
Blessings to all,
RnR :hahugh:
