What would ya'll suggest as the best herbies to buy if you have limited space? I'm interested in both tea and insense making. :toofless: I'm just looking for suggestions. There are SO many out there. x_x I get goggle-eyed.

Thanks ya'll.

Are you looking for herbs to buy to grow, or already dried? You could keep tons and tons of herbs if you buy them dried.

Mountain Rose Herbs is my favorite site and you can also buy containers for your herbs from them, some for under $2. Most herbs are cheap as well. I find that 4oz is plenty. I haven't much space myself, and the herbs I currently have are:

Chamomile, Rose, Lavender, Cloves, Rosemary, dried ferns (collected myself), Birch (collected), Catnip, Plum flowers (collected and dried), Calendula, Honeysuckle, and Bee pollen.

They also have tea blends and tea supplies. I'd back them up 100%, I can't say enough good things about them.

A few of my favorites:

Chamomile
Rosemary
Thyme
Hibiscus (great for using in iced tea blends, tastes a bit like cranberry. Produces a red color)
Lemon Verbena (also great for iced tea, can be used to substitute using a lemon at all)
Yarrow (amazing herb..good for combating colds/viruses)
Aniseed (also good in tea..helps improve flavor when using ingredients that may not taste so well)
Nettle Leaf
Peppermint
Elder Berries (helping with colds)
Spearmint
Lavendar
Bay Leaf
Cinnamon (I prefer to use bark chips for tea..powder for incense)
Mugwort (One of my favorites)
Licorice
Rose Petals
Catnip
Ginger (who doesn't love ginger?!?! Plus it's good for nausea, stomach aches, etc)
Valerian (Helps with insomnia)
Cloves
Frankincense (I always burn this during any magical workings to help produce the needed atmosphere)
Calendula
Sandalwood (this is one amazing and magically useful incense herb)
White Willow Bark (for headaches and other aches)

to name a few of what I use!

You want to start growing herbs or collecting them? Awesome! But I cannot recommend any without getting an idea what you'll use them for. I grow herbs for spells, teas, cooking, and soon I hope to make incense. Do you wish for lust? Protection? Wealth? General, every-day things? Help you sleep at night? To relax you?

Some great ones have been provided, but I strongly recommend getting a herb book or looking around online. You can buy seeds and things at your local Walmart. Most Health Foods stores have herb starts there too.

Anyhow, if you still need some help on choosing, let me know what kind you are wanting and I'll throw a few out there to nab!

Oak for the God, Birch for the Goddess, and Dragon's Blood for that extra "oomph" ;) They're staple herbs in my work.

Other good ones to have:
Lavender
Rosemary
Catnip (if you own cats or work with Bast; I do a lot of pet blessings)
Star Anise
Frankincense (for success)
Rose and Sunflower petals

Frankincense and Myrrh seem to be really popular in recpies. I've had trouble finding the actual stuff, but the oils seem pretty easy to get a hold of. I'm a fan of cinnamon and lemon balm as well.
I'd just recommend getting a variety unless there is one particular goal you work for a lot, then focus on herbs like that.
