View Full Version : No booklets for decks. Can I salvage them?

I few years ago I bought two oracle decks- one fairy and one angel. Specifically "Healing with the Fairies" Oracle Cards (Doreen Virtue, Ph.D.) and "Healing with the Angles" Oracle Cards (Doreen Virtue, Ph.D.). At the time it was because mostly because I loved the art on the cards, but also partially because I was curious about reading oracle cards.

However, my mother is both paranoid and very religious in the Christian faith. Therefore she took the instruction booklets that came with both of the decks. I eventually put the decks away (planning to put them face out on my walls as decoration at a later date, but never did so) and forgot about them. A while after deciding to peruse my mystic path, I remembered my cards and dug them out. However, I'm a total beginner and don't have the booklets, and I don't believe these cards are like the traditional tarot decks.

So what can I do? Is there any way I can get a hold of just the booklets for these decks (or at least the Fairy one) or would I have to buy another whole deck? Is there a general list of definitions for oracle cards somewhere that I can use?

Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Blessed Be.

I think that there is a reason why you dug them out now.
Perhaps this could work in your favor.
Yes, you can probably contact the company that published the cards and ask them for the booklets, or maybe there is some info online.. if you search the title of the decks.. Or maybe the place where you got the cards?

As a fun exercise you could try to look at the cards, and write down what YOU think they mean before you consult the booklet.

Typically, some decks, even the themed ones usually have the generic format,
22 majors and 50 something minors, with four suits.

each of the 22 majors coresponds to a hebrew letter etc..

After you get the booklets you can compare what you have writen in your notebook with them and that would give you an indicator of how developed your astral senses are..

I know those are standard oracle decks, not tarot--which is the only oracle type with the 22 majors and 4 suits, though I do think some creators of oracle decks started with tarot in mind...and there can often me a similar structure....

I think creating your own meanings is an excellent idea, and it's one that most instruction manuals push you toward in the end.

I have a couple of other oracles by D. Virtue.

I do recall that for the most part, she's of the very generic meaning type. Saying the same thing in different words for each card....better off coming up with your own meanings. If the "Healing with Angels" oracle is like the saint and angel based oracle I have, then you can start by actually looking up each of the saints and see what works for you (instead of using the oversimplified meanings she usually gives).

If you really want the books, you might try the tarot forum at http://www.tarotforum.net/ and see if anyone's willing to part with an instruction manual there. Or for that matter if anyone has scanned the manuals and put them online. There's a subforum for oracle decks.

Good luck, and whatever you do, have fun.

WHY DONT (sorry had caps lock on) you give her your booklets?

:yikess:

Because they aren't for the same decks. :) Though I suspect that they could be interchangeable given how generic they are....

And as a collector, I'm an evil miser who doesn't want to give up any pieces of my decks that might bring down the value (even though I have no intention of selling them). There's that 4 of Pentacles taking over again....:D

It's not to say that D. Virtue doesn't have her gems of wisdom. She wants to promote a very positive, life affirming philosophy and just can't seem to find sufficient variation in it to do justice to all the cards. She'd be able to get it across in 5 cards, not 50, or 50 x however many decks she's created.

But if she did that, we wouldn't have all the nice artwork available....so, don't anyone tell her I said that....:p

I know, but I'm at work and bored and have to subject people to long, rambling posts....:p

Have you tried doing an internet search on the decks and their LWB's?

Little White Books - usually they are inserted with a deck. The give brief meanings of the cards, usually a layout or two and some info on the deck and its creator.

Have you found a solution to this problem? If not I have both these decks and don't really need the booklets. I'd be happy to post them to you. I couldn't do it immediatly because they are at my other house, but it'd be within the month or so. Lemme know if you still are after them and if a week or three is alright.

Actually I haven't. I tried emailing the company but I've had no response yet. It would be great if you could send the out to me if I don't hear back from the company in a while (or if they want me to pay something stupid like $10 just for the booklet)! I'll let you know in a week or so :)
As a heads up, you're unable to send them out so they'd get here before the 20th of this month let me know. I'm going to be moving out of here to HI, you see. BUT I have a friend in HI who's address I can have you send them to. I can even pay shipping if you'd like (via paypal).

Thank you so much! I'll PM you in a week or so then ^_^

Sounds like a plan! I might be able to send them before the 20th, but it's highly unlikely they'd get to you by then, prolly better to borrow your mate's address. I can ship them for free, so it'd be slack of me to ask for payment.
Have a good one. :)
