Whoops.

A perfect storm of idiocy led to a frightening 9/11 flashback for thousands of New Yorkers Monday when a jumbo jet and an F-16 fighter jet buzzed lower Manhattan without warning.

Before they vanished, hundreds of frightened people had jammed emergency phone lines, and thousands of terrified people evacuated from buildings in the city and across the river in New Jersey.

"I was crying and praying to God to forgive me my sins because I thought I was going to get killed," said Kathleen Filandro, who fled from 1New York Plaza when she spotted the planes.

"It's like someone coming up to you, sticking a gun to your head for 15 seconds, walking away and hearing 20 minutes later it was an undercover cop posing for a photo," said Wall Street worker Bill Privett.

"I am still shaking," he said.

They knew what they were doing, and it got the desired result,

They should have let the city know what was going on, Mayor Bloomberg was PISSED! lol

There is another thread on this and I'd link if I had the time. They DID let the city officials know and some city officials told a few building but the ball was dropped and not by the federal government or the FFA.

From the article:

NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne said the department was told of the "aerial photo mission" last Thursday but was ordered to stay quiet about it. But they did alert 911 operators at 7 a.m. to tell callers it was an authorized military mission, he said.

Perhaps they did it just to scare the people.

This makes "mission accomplished" seem tame, yet there is little public outrage...when King Obama does something it is alright...it goes back to the Bush wiretapping = evil, Obama approving of it and no one notices.

Um, I don't think these two cases are related at all. Was it a bit unethical to do this against New York? Yep. But the situation did prove something. New Yorkers are quick to react these days.

However, that being said, Obama and his crew did everything they were supposed to do... it was the LOCAL government that screwed this pooch. Not him.

Bush did the mission accomplished as a publicity stunt to make him look good, Obama did this as a publicity stunt to make him look good...same thing...sure, not the same reason (the war) but the same principle. In doing this he caused panic in NYC...Bush didn't do that...so maybe it isn't the same thing.

yes, but according to the 911 tapes played on the news the 911 operators did not do this.

Oh I dissagree, the Fed, and the FAA seriously dropped the ball on this one for telling the city officials not to say anything. They knew the reaction this would get and they could have prevented this by alerting the citizens in advance. The President himself has ordered an investigation into this.

The City can not be faulted because they were under federal orders to keep quiet. The Blame goes right back to the Fed on this. They planned it, and the demand for secrecy shows the intent behind it. More than a photo op.
