View Full Version : What are your kids asking for from Santa or for Yule?

We combine Yule and Santa in my house so lists are being prepared at this time.
My son wants a Game Boy and Cait wants Barbie Rapunzel. Other than that, it will be mostly a homemade holiday- which will be really nice in some ways.
What are your kidlets asking for?

My step-daughter is asking for a bike, a new canopy for her bed, clothes and lots of jewelry. ::shrugs:: Typical 9 year old girly things. Oh and a tv/dvd player for her room, which she is NOT getting.
We actually don't do a Santa thing. She's never believed in Santa as long as I can remember. She associates Santa with other cartoon characters such as Mickey Mouse or Powerpuff Girls, something along those lines. She lately has been going to visit her mom for two weeks around Xmas, but when she's in town for Xmas day we just give extra surprise gifts on x-mas day. We actually do everything on, or close to, the Solstice. This year we're celebrating on the weekend of the big downtown winter festival, which is like two weeks before the solstice. That entire weekend is devoted to winter festivities. We're taking a neighborhood hayride to the tree farm and chopping down the tree, then we'll be decorating it, and of course we're going to the festival, then on Sunday night we're having our families over for a party and for 'Lil Girl to exchange her gifts...

I'm still a kid, can I say what I am asking for for Christmas/Yule?? :):)
For Yule I asked my Mom and Dad for a gift certificate to Isle Of Avalon *local Pagan store*, some candles, and some incense. Mostly, AradiaSupernova, our little sister, and I are the ones who do Yule on our own.
For Christmas I asked for a gift certificate to a book store, a few board games, uhmmm..I can't think of all of it right now..lol :) I know I wanted one of those storm ball things, they are the coolest contraptions ever!

:D I'm trying to convince my son that he wants that new crayon maker from Crayola. You feed in all your old crayons & it melts it down & makes new wild colour ones! How cool is that! I mean, who doesn't have a shoebox or two of old broken crayons lying around?
He's hoping for the Playstation 2 or xbox but I don't think it's gonna happen this year. Still paying for Disneyland! At twelve, it gets harder & harder trying to find things. Fortunately, books and lego are still a hit with him. :)

I keep telling mine to write his list out. He has to divide it up between me and his Dad.
I know he wants this Dragon block set. Sort of like legos but you can build castles with them. I dunno...I have to see the commercial again. He also wants a Harry Potter game. That's all I know for sure. I think I'm going to buy him a Gameboy this year though. Depends on what his report card looks like next week. ;)

The rent. They said that is what they wanted for christmas so we can get back on our feet. Stupid rental car cost a lot more than it was supposed to.

I know about those! :D We've got Callum some! (the silver set!)
They're abit like game strategy pieces aren't they, but plastic and not metal! (which they look like!) I would have LOVED those myself when I was young! (You can buy them in Woolworths over here, but I doubt very much you'll find one in the States???!!)

Because of two fantastic friends my kids may have thier Christmas wishes this year and nither of them read this thread. Sometimes I am astonished by the generosity of others and the depth of true friendship.

Yvonne, that is so sweet- I hope your friends eventually read this.
Wild, *I* want that crayon maker too! I melt my crayon stubs in muffin cups but my kids don't seem to like coloring with round, flat crayons. So if you get it, can I come to your house and play? :)
Scott has one of those Dragon sets too- Mega Bloks I think it was. And I got him a small set (half price at Kohls!!) with one dragon to go with it.
I am just about finished with Gary's gifts, not counting the food I make him. Home made shortbreads, every year. And this year I think I might try the honey nuts Yvonne posted in the Green Room.
I hope everyone gets what they wish for. :hearteyes

You can use lots of things as molds for crayons. Candy molds can be really fun for them plus there are molds for soap crayons out there so you could get fat crayons from them. :) You can also make metal square molds for small crayons with a can. Cut strips then sodier them together to make a rectangular box with the top open. :)

Hm..
MidnightSun, my younger sister, and myself are the only ones that celebrate Yule in our house. So we'll probably buy each other candles and incense and tools for Yule :) (I want a new pentacle necklace Shan!)
For Christmas I want-
Cranium
Trivial Pursuit, the 20th anniversary edition
The American Monopoly
A gift certificate to Borders
A gift certificate to Isle of Avalon (a book store)
That's about it. LOL :)

 Chris, I melt my old crayons in a muffin tin too. I know what you mean...it's just not the same, though. The crayon maker makes them into crayon shape & it comes with labels. I'm so tempted to get that crayon maker for myself! :D You can come over & play anytime, ok? We can sit out in my garden & do crafts & have pepermint tea.

I've been after my 3 for a list for some time.
Although I didn't have to tell the oldest twice.
posters
C.D.'s
movies
clothes
and a certain toy or two
he also added a note that read "I know you can't get it all"
He's such a great kid.
The youngest wants
necklace
highlights in his hair
a shirt with a tiger and a dragon on it
super baggy jeans
C.D. player
and a C.D.
He's 7. Doesn't that sound more like a teen-agers list?
The middle still hasn't made a list yet.
Does that mean I don't gotta get him nuttin?;)

We don't celebrate Christmas in my family anymore. I discovered when I was younger they only did it for me and now I'd rather have my birthday (Which, horribly, is on Dec 25). All I really want is my Andrew to visit from college. But, thats doubtful, so I asked for a new laptop.

I'd go and ramble off my list (1 page long...front & back - just so I make it easier for them to find me something. I don't expect to get nearly half of it, and most is on there, copied from my last year's list.)
:) Mostly CD's and books and stuff though.

First of all, I want to know why Jewish people don't have a Hanukkah bunny? I think we deserve a character for our holiday too! I most assuredly don't want Santa, though. He always scared me. Some obese man who knows everything I do and has a magical key to go into my house?! I always wanted to have Santa arrested, I was terrified that he was really a serial-killer at heart. (Yes, I am serious, lol) I was one very...interesting child. ;)
What do I want for Hanukkah and the holiday season in general?
A card from someone special
New mittens (blue!!)
More incense
More candles (I really need a black one, hmmm..)
Music music music!
A really great season for my family
A really great season for my friends
A phone call from the person from whom I want a card ;)
hehehe Easy list, eh?
I hate making present request lists. They make me feel so greedy. :-/

Hi all... Lets see... the 5 yr old wants everything she sees on TV... but especially anything to do with Barbie... powerpuff girls... and MouseTrap the game. The 12 yr old wants CDs, DVD's, room stuff... clothes.. a phone ... *sigh* they grow up too fast dont they???
Mom wants a good book on herbs... Bulgarian rose essential oil ( in my dreams ) and a purple witch ball.
Dad wants puter stuff... clothes... and more puter stuff...lol
This will be the first year celebrating Yule in our house... I'm still not sure how i will do it... as I am basically still in the closet as far as the rest of the family goes... (hubby and oldest know ) I just bet there are lots of threads all about celebrating Yule eh? I will have to look... :)

I don't have any kids, but my 3 1/2 year old niece wants anything to do with my little pony, or barbie. My dad want motorcycle accessories (he bought himself a bike this summer, and is in love with it), my hubby wants a dive watch/computer, and I don't know what anyone else wants.
I haven't been able to figure out what I want, really..... so far I've come up with:
books
games (PS2, computer or otherwise)
ankle bracelet (which I won't get because my hubby thinks its a waste of money to buy jewlery....sigh....)
lap top computer
digital camera
gift certificate to a tattoo shop.
Unfortunately, everyone I know can only afford the first two items.....oh well.

heh. My Amber is 3 and a half and she pretty much wants everything she sees on TV, in her kids magazines and at the shops. And despite all my best efforts to change her mind, she wants mostly... :: shudders :: Barbie. Am I the only mom that can't stand that misproportioned thing?
My mom doesn't make things easier by telling her that 'Boys play with cars. Girls play with Barbie.' BAH!
edit - hmmm... 'misproportioned'... is that even a word?!
edit 2 - Almost forgot. I must be tired...
Greetings and Welcome gypsifae!

That is one of my peeves too, about Barbie. And also the boy/car, girl/doll thing LOL!
I'm lucky, my kids really have a blend of interests. Scott will play Barbie's with Cait, and Cait, well... she keep up with her big brother in lots of ways. :D

But what I couldn't understand about my mom telling Amber that, is I had this little kid size suitcase full of Matchbox cars! Well... that is until I 'lent' them to some boy and never saw them again... :(

Spirit Of Yule
My daughter, Chantel, was born on December the 21st and this year she turns 8. Because her birthday is on the same day as our Yule celebration, Roger and I try to celebrate her birthday a bit early, usually around the 15th or so. Well, this year, like last, we trucked off to Toys R Us so that she could pick out her gift. She has a real love for Barbie, so I wasn’t surprised when she made a B-line for the pinkest isle in the store. When we arrived I reminded her that her limit was $50.
There was another little girl there, about 6 or 7 who had that same starry eyed look as Chantel as they ogled the new dolls. Allison’s mom and baby brother were there, and we chatted about infants, daughters and maternal chronic sleep deprivation as the girls played.
Eventually, Mom advised Allison that it was time to go. The girls said their good-bys and after a moments contemplation, Chantel picked up the Fairy of the Garden Barbie. She advised me that this was the exact Barbie she wanted. I reminded her that her limit was $50.00 not $59.00 plus applicable taxes. She offered to put her saved allowance towards it and do some extra chores around the house this week. With Yule coming up, my tight work schedule and a deluge of 20 or so pagan friends coming over for circle and celebration on the 21st, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse.
We cashed out and Chantel strode off with her gift in hand. As we made our way through the crowd and towards the exit, Chantel spied Allison and her mom and brother sitting in the food court and abruptly turned to ask if she could go see Allison again. We popped over and their faces lit up again like they hadn’t seen each other in years. Then Chantel passed the doll to Allison and said “Happy Yule.”
Allison’s mother was a bit taken aback, me quite surprised, but I never miss an opportunity for teaching my children about having a generous spirit. Allison’s mother looked at me with confusion, “It was her idea and decision and I fully support her in it.”
Allison opened the bag and very nearly melted in delight when she saw the contents. She thanked Chantel over and over..and we left after wishing them a happy holiday season.
When we got to the car, I turned to ask Chantel why she gave her birthday gift away. She said “Mommy, Allison said that she dreamed of having that Barbie, but her Mommy and Daddy couldn’t afford it.” Then she looked at me quizzically. “You don’t recognize her, do you?”
I thought back to that vague feeling of familiarity I had experienced as we spoke. You know it. The one you feel when you know a face yet can’t place it. “No Sweetheart I don’t.”
“She’s the little girl I played with last week when Daddy was fixing the computer at the woman’s shelter. Remember? You called and I answered the phone by mistake.” Then it clued in. I’d seen her in ER after a domestic assault and had coordinated an admission to the women’s shelter on the same night my husband had gone down, kids in tow, to fix the computer there. “Her Barbie was all broken and she was so sad that night. She needed to smile more than I did.”
I drove home with tears in my eyes, but feeling so very proud of my daughter.
Happy Yule,
Karen, Roger, Chantel and Ian Landry
