all right, i've gotten the 4 canonical Gospels corresponded to the 4 Elements like this:
Matthew=water
Mark=fire
Luke=earth
John=air
from the animals they're iconographically associated with (human, lion, bull, and eagle, respectively), and also, i think, James Joyce's Finnegan's Wake (via Robert Anton Wilson; see the Appendices of the Illuminatus! trilogy if you're so inclined), but i'm trying to make more direct connections between the Gospels and the Elements. Here's what i have so far:
Mark/fire: this book is very action-oriented
Luke/earth: a lot about the humble downtrodden in society, including women
John/air: seems intellectual, long passages where Jesus is just talking
any other related thoughts?
