dont understand post, do you mean, "without patches, gum, pills?"
Freyja is using the gum right now, my mother used the patch, I've heard hypnosis works, and also the nicotine inhaler.

 My dad used the patch after (I"m not sure of how many years of smoking) and it worked pretty good..
Um... Chewing bubble gum is supposed to work (I think). Because it gives you something to do (chewing, obviously)
Other than that, best of luck to kick the habit!

I am currently trying Zyban, but nothing yet. Doc says it takes up to a month to kick in but that the success rate is high. I'll let you know if it works. *crosses fingers*

My doctor gave me an anti-depressant, Wellbutrin, it helps with the psychological problems with quitting, and for the oral fixation, I chew on a straw, or an unlit cigarette (when I'm not at work). Best wishes to you, I know it's hard, this is my third time trying.

My brother-in-law is trying to quit and like you has been smoking for quite a long while. He's using the patch. I think it's working alright for him. My brother is also quitting but I dont' know what method he's using.
Hubby smokes 3 packs a day. He was gonna try to quite this fall and I was gonna try to help him but his heart wasn't really in it. I think just the thought of quitting made him nervous. He is watching his brother to see how the patches work for him. When he decides to quit I will again offer my assistance.
Other than that I myself don't know. I do wish you luck in reaching you goal and in finding what your looking for.

Hi Grey_Bear,
I'm sorta in the process of quitting... I know. Sounds odd.
I've never been the kind of person to smoke a pack or more a day, but a pack of 25's used to last 2-3 days.
I did manage to quit once I had found out I was pregnant, but was back on them within a year of Amber being born. Now I'm at the stage where I'm sick of smoking. Mostly I try to keep my mind occupied, which isn't hard at the moment with all the projects that I've started. My hardest times to not think about it are when I'm at work and start stressing and just before I go to bed. Otherwise I barely think about lighting up anymore.
So basically... try keeping your mind off of lighting up. If it does cross your mind, do something to occupy your mind, or munch on something healthy. You should find that you forget about it after a while.

A lot of people recommend St John's Wart I personally used tooth pics. There is a thread in the green room with lots of ideas too.

theres a quit smoking thread in healthy pagan... I think you will find support there, as well as some tips on what everyone does...
the key is to keep busy, suck lollipops, because after I think its something like 72 hours you no longer crave the nicotine (so they say) but you still have the hand to mouth action that needs to be broken as well.
Also, drink lots of water, this way you will have minimal wieght gain.. you have a craving, have a glass of water, no matter how much you may hate it.
Good luck, your wife is very special to me!

I have tried everything known to man and still have not been able to quit. Actually, Welbutrin and Zyban are the same exact pill just manufactured with different names for advertisemnet purposes. I cannot help since I have not yet been able to stop.
If anyone has any new ideas, I would greatly appreciate the input! Good Luck to all who are trying.;)

Hi (((Everyone)))
Yes, the quitting smoking thing has been really hard. I have always been one who could quit any time I wanted to, but now it's not so easy.
Actually, I believe it's a mind over matter thing. For some reason, smoking as much as I used to has been making me sick. I used to smoke a pack a day. Now I may only smoke one or two. We never smoke around the kids! (wanted to point that out)T
I have only smoked consistently for about a little over 4 years and it's been hard because I've never been with someone who smokes. Not to point any fingers...as Grey_Bear mentioned, he has been smoking since he was 13 or 14 yrs old.
I find that keeping myself busy with art or other things around the house keeps me from lighting up, but night time is hard, and those stressfull moments as well. Also, sucking on sugar-free candies or those new throat breezers. I am trying to help GB without nagging him every time he lights up.
I would like to spend as much time with him on earth as possible...so I pray for strength for him.
We are very thankeful for your tips and ideas as well. Very!!!:heartthro :heartthro :heartthro

Best-est wishes to you, and best-est luck to you.....
Acupuncture does not work!!!
So save your money.
Hubby and I were desperate enough to let a stranger stick needles in our hands and arms; we're still smoking.....
All we got from it was itchy hands.
I'm so darn discouraged......
We've tried patches, gum, nicotine lollipops, cold turkey, the Bahamas, (as in "going to the"....); we are complete failures at it.
Nicotine has to be one of the worst addictions there is.....:( :wah2: :wah:

The way I quit the first time was getting pregnant though I don't recommend that as a means of quitting :)

This may sound weird, but I worked at a hypnosis clinic that specilized in stopping smoking programs (among other things). Ever single person who came in and completed the stop smoking program stopped smoking -- many of them after the first or second session. There was one client who was so amazed at the results that he was scared he wasn't normal, or something :) hehe... I really suggest that if your will power isn't what you'd like it to be.
