Despite the source, the story appears to be true. What do you think? Already the fundies are condeming her for being transgender and anyone else who makes the choice to correct gender. No word from Cher yet. I remember she was somewhat shocked when Chastity came out as a lesbian, which surprised me. I thought she was a lot more open-minded considering her wild lifestyle.

Will she still be a Lesbian after the surgery, or just a heterosexual male?

She will be himself. The fundies can kiss my Lesbian Bum. All she needs is to talk with her partner and make sure things are understood. Her mother is pretty self involved. She will probably disown her. At least that is what will come out in the tabloids.
It takes a LOT of therapy and discussion to go through this. It's her life and her decision. Not our business. I support her decision.

Good. If this is what Chastity wants then good for her. I wish her all the best. Changing genders is one of the hardest decisions someone can make.

If it means she is happy and content in her body, than I'm happy for her.

I watched her on Celebrity Fit Club a few years back. Does not surprise me in the least. She, from what I saw of her on the show seems to have a good head on her shoulders and does not the " I am a celebrity because my parents are famous, so give me things" attitude.
Good for her, I hope she will be happy.

Figured Cher would be a lot more open-minded considering where her bread and butter came from throughout the 1970s and beyond (often somewhat effeminate gay men and drag queens).

Previously lesbian-identified Trans men typically regard themselves as heterosexual men after transition, though a fair amount of said become far more "out" about bisexual leanings after transition -- though this has more to do with the anti-bisexual attitudes prevalent in many Gay and Lesbian communities.

Maybe it's no longer true (I don't watch talk shows anymore) but there was a time when audiences would do the "ewww" thing and be really phobic about transgendered people, even though they were a lot more accepting of gay and lesbian people. I never understood that. Their bodies don't match their psycho-sexual identity... why is that a gross out for some people?
Would you date someone who had corrective surgery? I don't see how it matters, but I know a lot of men can't handle it when they find out.

You can't really fully transform your gender, because chromosomal differences will always remain. Plus, she won't be able to create sperm or reproduce like a male. I realize that probably doesn't matter to her, but it might matter to some.

Love the pic...this is what comes to mind every time I hear "Fundies" too, and it makes me snicker a bit. ;)
Anyway, I have never been in the situation where I would have had to make the decision as to whether or not I would have dated a transgender person, so I don't know. I do not feel any kind of "ick factor" at all towards them. If anything, feel a little badly that they had to go through all they did, as I know it must not have been a fun ride, especially in today's society (or any in the past really) not being very accepting of the idea.
Anyone who is trapped in the wrong body, is teased mercilessly for something they have no control over, or suffers greatly deserves a break and extra blessings in their next lifetime in my book.

I just never thought she was a transgendered person. I thought she was just a butch lesbian.

Are bisexuals the Christian pagans of the gay communities? Meaning both sides they claim to be a part of, both despise them and don't see them as a true fit in their communities?

I saw this in the news yesterday. Wasn't really surprised. Gotta be something difficult for most mum's to deal with, but I think Cher will be supportive in the long run.

I highly recommend the book Whipping Girl, which is written by a transexual person. I reviewed it at MW some time back, and found it generally excellent.
All I have to say on this thread is: good luck to Chastity. Perhaps the name will change to Chas?

I would think Chester would be a good masculine name to convert from Chastity, but that's just my opinion...

"Trans" means she's transitioning into the opposite gender. She isn't trans if she isn't transitioning. She's a female now she's going to be a man later..she won't always be 'trans'.

she's going to be a man later.
In a cosmetic sense, perhaps. But not in a biological sense.

Aww that's so nice to hear. I always suspected that Chas identified male.
As for the question of would I date someone who had gender reassignment surgery? I sure would. I've known a number of people pre-op and post-op that were beautiful no matter what gender they outwardly appeared.

Would you date someone who had corrective surgery? Well in my situation I am married to someone who is going through the whole transgender process. If my situation was different I am not sure I mean long before my husband and I even met I knew of one person that went through the whole process but that person and I were just friends so I have no way to say for sure.
I highly recommend the book Whipping Girl, which is written by a transexual person. I reviewed it at MW some time back, and found it generally excellent. Thanks for the book title.
And as for whether or not Cher is accepting or not I think it will take time. I know when my spouse told me about wanting to change his gender that it took me some time to get over the inital shock. And even if she is not accepting Chastity has to do what she/he needs to do to make her/himself happy.

You can't really fully transform your gender, because chromosomal differences will always remain. Plus, she won't be able to create sperm or reproduce like a male. I realize that probably doesn't matter to her, but it might matter to some.
Considering that the medical community now defines "gender" as "internalised mental identity in relation to one's sex", yes you can, actually.
As for "chromosomal differences", well, the fact of the matter is, medical science has identified a minimum of nine chromosomal sexes -- there was even one a case of a man who appeared and functioned "male" at birth, even fathered children, but when getting some medical tests performed, it was discovered that his "chromosomal sex" was XX, so obviously biological sex isn't completely cut-and-dry, either.
As far as what "may matter to some", nataly-determined males who are infertile for other medical reasons are still allowed to function in society as men -- and some U$ states even require that, provided he knows about his infertility, that he inform any potential wife before signing a marriage license, lest it be grounds for annulment -- but other than that, marriage is still allowed, and happens often enough that I'm even surprised that you'd bring this up -- unless, of course, you're bigoted.
"Trans" means she's transitioning into the opposite gender. She isn't trans if she isn't transitioning. She's a female now she's going to be a man later..she won't always be 'trans'.
Actually, the standard definitions on a pamphlet I once picked up at the U of Michigan GBLT office the standard definitions amongst psychologists are:
Transgender -- one who lives mostly or completely as the opposite gender of that which these were assigned shortly after birth, a "transgenderist" typically does not seek surgery and may seek hormonal replacement
Transsexual -- one who desires, is in the process of, or has changed the appearance of their physical sex to more accurately match that typically associated with their actual gender through means of surgery and hormone replacement
Many transsexuals (typically activists, as opposed to those "living stealth") may still identify themselves as transsexual or transsexed, even long after genital reconstruction (typically the final surgery) for many reasons. Also, many female-to-male transsexuals (Trans men) actually don't get genital reconstruction for two primary reasons -- 1) it tends to cost at least four times as much as male-to-female genital reconstruction (US$80K as opposed to US$20K, and only the cost of MTF GR is significantly less overseas, averaging about US$7K in Thailand with FTM GR averaging maybe US$50K), and 2) for all that extra cost, the results are typically sub-par. Stapling a knockwurst to one's crotch looks better than the typocal phalloplasty (google it, or trust me -- your choice) and might even function better, too. Yeah, this is Cher's kid, so cost may not be an issue (depends how much Daddy left them after his little skiing trip), but if C has as decent a head on their shoulders as they seem to, there's a 50/50 chance that they may still opt out of GR simply because the only real benefit is urinating in the men's room without a prosthetic.
