The Sidhe have been, like the Angels, from before the making of the earth. In the old times in Ireland they were called gods or the children of gods; now it is laid down they are those Angels who were cast out of heaven, being proud.

Sooo...this had me thinking about the origins of the Sidhe and about how long they have been around. To say that the Fae are angels who were cast out of heaven is to bring energies of the Old Ways into a christian setting and thus it seems odd.
To say that they are older than the making of earth also makes me curious and thoughtful as i connect them strongly with the earth and nature....
So what do you believe?Do you agree/disagree?If the Fae is older than the making of earth then what or where were they before that?

I dont think the gods would cast them out personally. I think they helped to create the earth and are here of their own free will to protect and take care of it.

The traditional belief where I come from is that the little people were angels who would not take a side in the war between God and the Devil (assuming one believes this), Since these angels were not good enough to stay with God or bad enough to go to hell with the devil they fell to earth and were stuck in between becoming the little people of legend.

Well in general here the Sidhe from Lady Gregories books are the gods. An evolution of folklore caused by an evolution in our society. The actual Sidhe are mountains, hills, ringforts, rivers, pools, lakes, henges, nooks and crannies around the country and aswell as the big boys what could be described as lesser gods, elementals or strong spirits hang out at them for some reason. Noone that aknowleges them here would use the name for the sake of safety but the name Sidhe comes from that association with our sacred sites.
How long have they been around? Who knows, maybe because they dont exist like us they were around before the big bang when everything was just energy. They are already present in our prehistory milennia before the written word so we cant know.
I prefer the questions how long have we recignised them, how have we interacted with them and why did we do it? They have loads of answers. If you like fairies and have a few dollars loose in your pockets check out Meeting the other crowd by Eddie Lenihan. Its a record of some of the fairy stories going around ireland in the oral trad. It doesnt pass judgement or offer explanations its just down to you to take from it what you can. I found the answers to my questions in it so its informative if fairies are your thing

 I think it's just a retroactive Christian explanation. I've heard a similar explanation for why the story of Christ fits the "Sacrificed God" archetype so well: the Devil created all those other stories, in order to lead humans into sin.
I have no idea where they actually come from, though.
