This is really sad. On a gameshow yesterday, a man on the street in America was asked "What country is directly South of Canada?" His answer: Poland.

I'm sorry... but I can only laugh when people come up with answers like that.

Can't say I'm surprised. On a map quiz in college history another student asked me where the English Channel was. I was very tempted to tell her the BBC. I heard another story (and this is just a story. I have no idea how accurate it is, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it were true.) about a frustrated geography teacher giving her students a map of their town with a red dot labeled "you are here". She then spent the remainder of her time trying to explain why the dot didn't move when the students drove around town.

Was that on "Street Smarts?" I love that show. It make me feel like Einstein. There was one too the other day when they asked how many US states were south of Alaska. Only one of them got it

Jay Leno does something similar to that. I think that's where Street Smarts got the idea for the game show. Anyways, Jay ask some college student where the highest point on the earth was. He answered "The North Pole." What's scary...is in a way he's right if you think about it. But I don't think that's what Jay Leno had in mind.

There was also something on the bbc webite saying that a lot of Americans think the UK is in the Middle East!
(I'll see if I can find the link)
*edited to add* Nope, sorry, can't find it.

On our local news, there was a history teacher that was showing her students a map and asked where Iraq and Iran was. None of the students knew. And when she showed them the US without the states names, barely any of the students knew what state was what. Goes to show how good Peoria's schools are. Maybe that's why we are the last school district in the state on PSAT scores.....

 That's horrible..... Oh my goodness... We had the provinces & their capitals drilled into our heads so that we were dreaming about them (not really....but you know what I mean.)
