View Full Version : The Concept of God

See, I use the word "God" as an all-encompassing ideal. The fact is, I believe in God to such an extent that I cannot sit here and tell you what It is. Also, I say It because I really don't think God has a gender. God is everything, not just some Spirit that watches over our movements, ready to damn us for our mistakes or praise us according to the doctrines of many faiths. Can ya tell I was a bitter Christian? =)

Here's my theory, and I'm wondering the opinion of others. God is different to everyone. God can be female, God can be male, or in my case, there is no gender. I find my Deity to above gender, or those simple things that we need to label ourselves as. I also believe that each of us have a particular and rather close relationship with our deities, like a child to a mother. And lastly, our deity is all-encompassing. It's not just the Spirit we feel when we meditate, but every image our eyes absorb, every beautiful sound our ears consume, every luscious taste we are blessed- *everything in nature.* It is not right to say that a Diety would simply create our being, just to watch us with idle interest or even watch over us like an overbearing, overprotective parent.

So in the meantime, I'm hoping to learn what this all means and if it relates to Wicca. I'd like to think that I'm at least polytheistic because of this concept. I don't think God or your Deity is actually a person - we are people, but far from God. God is a Spirit, a spirit that our souls are tightly connected with.

That's my Theory.

What you're describing is basically pantheism rather than polytheism per se, although the two can certainly coexist. It's a view of deity that fits Wicca just fine, IMO. Especially with the focus on the sacred in nature & the immanent God/dess.

Beautiful, Lady Terra.

Personally, I see Goddess and God as persons, while simultaneously present everywhere ("impersonally") and also simultaneously in my heart. Mine is a concept of simultaneous oneness and difference. Although I'm a part and parcel of Them, I'm also a person on my own right, as are They.

Wicca is a path that embraces variety and differences.
