I've just seen the funniest tv program about fortune tellilng and Tarot. I mean it was supposed to be serious, but the "experts" who were invited and the things they said really made my day:D .

There were several old ladies, fortune tellers, Tarot readers and magicians. You know the kind of people who insist on calling them Madame Rosamunda or whatever.

They said many wonderfully funny things, but the best one was when they started to argue that their way of laying out cards was the right one and all others were totally wrong. There was some guy who seemed a bit wiser and said to them that there is no one correct way for laying out cards, but later when the host asked him if he reads for himself he smiled and said: No why would I do it? This was totally new view for me, but then again I'm not a professional Tarot reader and I read more often for myself than others.

From the whole discussion I also got an idea that it is a common view that it's OK to tell the future with regular playing cards, but Tarot is an evil instrument, belonging to the devil:eek: .

Just a few thoughts on how Tarot is seen by ordinary people. It's interesting and useful to be aware of it.

This reminds me of an incident at Chapters on Saturday. I was checking out the new age/pagan section to see if there was anything new & interesting there. The tarot decks were intermingled with the books. Two teenage girls walked by & saw me looking at the decks. One of them said quite loud that tarot decks are EVIL! Her friend looked at her & gasp. The first girl said "oh yes! My aunt had a deck & said so. She threw them in the garbage & the next morning, they were sitting by her pillow!" At that point, I started laughing. There really isn't any point explaining things to them. I think I insulted them by laughing.

I have to admit, I'm a bit disappointed my decks never walked. :(

If the decks were sitting, didn't they get crease marks?

In reality, I'll bet the show was supposed to be a serious documentary, but the producers didn't have a clue to what they were supposed to be reporting.

Very true, unfortunately, but the reality is that produces rarely have some idea about what they're supposed to be reporting:rolleyes:

sometimes i feel a want to call of those psychics for a tarot reading...just to see what they have to say, whether they'd really be able to tell me anything...but i guess i don't want to get really dissapointed.

I always found it funny how the Tarot is often seen as "evil" by many christians , and others, even tho God , the Pope , the House of God etc are important parts of it.

Maybe she uses the Angel cards? That's about the only one I can think of.

I don't read the cards for myself. When I first got into Tarot, I did, because that's really how you learn. However, then I got a deck that I now use exclusively and I can't read my cards with it.... it just doesn't work.
If I really want to do a reading on myself, I'll go dig out my own deck, but I never *want* to do a reading for myself any more, I find it much more rewarding to do it for other people, I guess.
