Has anybody ever used the Gestalt method for reading Tarot? I read the book Heart of Tarot by Amber K and think that it is a wonderful way to do one on one in person readings. I was just wondering what anybody thought of it.

Can you give us some clue as to what 'gestalt' means as a method?

With the Gestalt method, you help the querant discover the meaning of the cards for themselves in an intuitive fashion. The querant shuffles, lays out the cards and turns them over one by one. You ask open-ended questions (such as "What kind of woman do you think this is?) and the querant answers with whatever comes to mind. For instance, say the first card turned over is the Queen of Swords. One person might say she looks like a harsh demanding woman, another would say she looks sad. The Gestalt method doesn't use 'book definitions' for readings, instead it relies on the intuition (subconscious) of the querant to discover the meaning for that particular person. It allows you to apply it to their life more directly than saying "the Queen of Swords is a harsh woman who is probably a widow."

I don't tend to use traditional book meanings when I read....if I am stuck, I'll use it as a "jump point" but from there I'm on my own. I do try to involve the person I'm reading for by asking them if they know anyone similar to the card or if it reminds them of anyone.

Great theory! ;)

I like this method! Actually, I kind of used it several times without being aware that there is such method:) .

But I think most people who come and want me to do a reading for them want to get the interpretation from me, they need to be told some things instead of just discovering them... I don't know, but that's just my view:)
