I have heard that Virgo's real home planet is Vulcan, a planet whose orbit once lay between Mars and Jupiter, but it was destroyed and became the asteroid belt that we see there today. Anyone?

Gwion, the Vulcan that I heard of was supposedly opposite the earth, so that its place in orbit could not be seen because it was always behind the Sun.

The asteroid belt, I believe was a planet that was destroyed by KX76, a brown dwarf star that encircles the sun every appx 3600 years. (This is the planet "X" that many of today's Astronomers are concerned about and studying). It is interesting that many of the larger fragments, the asteroids, from that collision have astrological meanings, which is something that I personally did not believe until there was research done into the idea. Also, that the orbits of most asteroids are elongated toward the constellation Scorpio. If you get an asteroid ephemeris, you can see that their transit time is much longer in that part of the heavens than in the opposite portion, Taurus and Gemini. I am suggesting that whatever hit the planet between Mars and Jupiter, was struck by something that came in from the region of space in which the constellation Taurus was in the background. If anyone is interested in the meanings of the major 15 asteroids, let me know, and I will post them.

As far as a rulership for Virgo, (being Mercury) that the signs of its rulerhsip perfectly fits the dual nature of that planet. This accounts for Mercury having two signs of rulership (Virgo and Gemini). Also, if you were to make a chart of the rulerships, you will find that it would "upset" the congruity by allowing some other planet besides Mercury to rule Virgo.

I have heard that Vulcan's orbit is between Mercury and the Sun; it is too close to the Sun for us to see it. It would seem to me that the Smith of the Gods could withstand the heat of the Sun if no one else could!

Interesting that there are so many theories, yet all seem to agree that there is an undiscovered planet Vulcan out there...

amber, I am thinking, with as many total eclipses of the Sun that have been photographed in the past 60 years, that if Vulcan existed, I'm sure that it would have been spotted by now.

Allegedly Vulcan lay between Mercury and the Sun, but no trace of it has ever been found.

As for the asteroid belt, the current thinking is that there never was a planet there; the tidal forces of Jupiter prevented it from forming.

I thought Vulcan was the planet where Spock came from...?

Yeah, I t hought that too. The only Vulcan I ever knew of was the rock quarry beside my middle school. The blasted for rocks like every Wednesday or every 3 days, and it shook the school. One new kid from California thought it was an earthquake, went under her desk, and asked why no one else did so. I've heard about there being a planet between Mars and Jupiter, but not one in front of Mercury.

Here are some links that talk about Planet Vulcan:

I hope I got your name right. Anyway, that's the only Vulcan I ever heard of too. This is the first time I heard that it was something else. Gene Roddenberry, what a smart guy.

Linda Goodman wrote in her book Star Signs that she thought that Vulcan was a planet waiting to be discovered and would rule Virgo, and that a planet named Horus would be found for Taurus.
There's also a pretty good theory for a future planet X (aka: Persephone) that would take over Libra, in the book Astro-Mythology, can't remember the author offhand.

For those of you who have missed me, I just moved to a new apartment and I still don't have internet yet! I can only get on the one at work very rarely. :)

Voyager took a picture of the solar system a few years ago from somewhere far outside Pluto's orbit. It was able to see Earth--albeit as a little blue speck. :) If there were any planet on the opposite side of the sun from Earth, Voyager likely as not would have seen it.
