I'm not sure how else to say it, but how successful is your magic? Like, do you get what you request everything you do magic? Is it once and a while? Only when you beg? Only when you have a tantrum and call your goddess names and it turns her on?
I haven't done a lot of magic so I'm not sure what expectations I should have. Is it like prayer? For me, it was seldom that anything specific ever happened that I requested. Or, was I just requesting the wrong things? lol

Now theres an idea...but I digress...
"Magic" is a funny thing. It is not something you can hold a ruler up to and say "The spell worked this well". Which is why it is not a part if our modern scientific society. It is so easy to want change in our lives so badly that we see them happen for mystical reasons. Like wise it is easy to become so disillusioned by hard ships that we fail to see positive influences even when they are slapping us up side the head. Magic may be working for us even when we don't know it, and it may be us who are causing the changes we seek. Ether way, it is all ways a good idea to not put all your trust in a spell, don't just wish for things to be and go about your day. actively strive for you goals. If the magic is there, it will smooth things out for you, if not then you have affirmed your goal deeper in your psyche, which will smooth things out for you.

Makes sense.
Part of the feeling of "not working" is coming from the books and sites that I've been reading. Wow! Every spell I cast works! sorta stuff. I haven't really asked for much for myself (I do banish negativity in my office at work nearly on a daily basis these days and I have a ward on my office threshold to make the director not want to stick her head in), and a couple of return the stupid cat spells...It's more for my future magic. I'm not sure what my expectations should be.
Does that make sense?

My magick is usually like a prayer. I'm not big on ceremony or complex rituals/spells etc. I've also found that my most successful magick is when i keep it simple (hence why i keep it simple now lol). The thing to keep in mind is, you might get what you need, but not necessarily what you wanted to begin with. So while it might seem your magick at first isn't doing what you wanted, after time you might see it actually did do what you really wanted, just not in the way you thought it would go.

I typically get an answer. As for do I get everything I want? Well, that would make life kind of boring, wouldn't it?
I don't typically ask for things that give a yes or no answer - I ask for guidance, help, or what would be best for me....not necessarily what I want.
Think back on the magic you have done. Have things changed afterward, even if it wasn't what you asked for... was there some sort of change surrounding what you asked about, or did the magic for? Just because you aren't getting what you specifically ask for, doesn't mean you aren't given an answer at all. Sometimes you just have to look back and reflect a little bit on the big and small changes that happen, and you see a pattern... then from there, your answers.

Interesting. Makes sense. I would expect that you would also get what you technically asked for...but it isn't the way you wanted it.

Please don't think that if you aren't getting the exact results that you are looking for right away that your magick has failed. IMO I think a person who says that every spell they work does exactly as they ask is full of %#*! As I said thats my opinion.
I have to agree with Corvid and Kalika in that when you use magick, it tends to not give you a clear and decisive "here you go" response. What you asked to have changed may change because another situation was taken care of.

I like your style.
If you feel that your magic isn't working, how do you know the reason why? This is also something that I don't understand. Is it always you or is it outside forces? Or, a combo? Or did you goddess just break up with you?

well one thing ive learned what ever energy you put out into the universe will do something. how focused were you on your goal, how did you word your request, how were you feeling emotionally when you did the work, etc etc. these are all factors of a spell working that will effect the energy that you put forth. sometimes you will do magick without even realizing it when its done. the tools are there to aid in your concentration. the better your concentration on your work the more you will find you dont need the tools. now this doesnt mean to throw them out. you can still use them even if you dont need them.but your spell will always do something, may not be in the time frame you wanted or even what you really wanted but once the energy is ou there it doesnt sit still

I tend to pray and ask for things in small ritual, I also meditate and say prayers that don't ask of anything and burn incense etc. I find I USUALLY get what I ask for, but I also get a few challenges afterwards that need to be worked through to keep what I've got, it makes me appreciate it more and strengthens me as a person.

For me, if my magick doesn't work, it's usually because I didn't put my all into it and often times I realize that after I've already tried. And if not that, I just sit back and meditate on it. I usually get an answer as to why it blew a fuse somewhere.
As for what forces can influence your magick it can be a combo. If you don't put your full intent into it or you aren't feeling well, or (insert personal issue here) that can be something from you. Now if you try doing, say a full on banishing or other similar magickal act; I wouldn't recommend that you try doing it during a waxing moon since that phase tends to cause a growing of energies. The more you implements or energies you incorporate into your magick, the more you have to watch that you use them at the right times.
Meribast is right. Whatever energy you put out there will create an effect. So if you decide to throw out a big load of energy, it's always best to make sure that you put the proper focus, will, and time into it. You don't want to dump a load of energy out there without there being a clear intent behind it. Otherwise, it can create all sorts of messes for you. This is coming from personal experience.

Interesting. Makes sense. I would expect that you would also get what you technically asked for...but it isn't the way you wanted it.
Or you get what you asked for - but in a roundabout way.
One example would be...
You ask for help in finding a good job, do a ritual, spell, etc.
Suddenly, you start getting job ads in your email, coming across them in the paper, all for jobs you'd love to have.
This may be your answer- you just have to do a bit of work (ie send in resumes and cover letters and applications.)
One thing I've learned over the years (one of many!) is that you appreciate the things that you work for more than you appreciate the things that are handed to you. The Gods aren't in the way of making our lives a piece of cake... there are still some things you have to work out on your own... but they aren't against giving you a nudge in the right direction. :)
