Apparently the courts are going to delay the adventure to assess her psychological fortitude.

Yikes!
Having been that age only 5 years ago, I remember wanting to do something one second and then changing my mind the next.
If it's what she really wants to do, I at least hope that she's safe.

May the winds and the waves see her safely from shore to shore. May the stars guide her home.

I hope she doesn't run into any pirates.

I may be the odd one out here, but I would never let my child do that. Not bitching about her parents, but were I in that situation I would be in a state of constant panic for my daughter or son.

Sailing around the world is a great way for a young person to gain knowledge and experience.. and delicious cake.

And a great way to die early.

I agree.
I'm not really someone who is in favor of this child's plan. Even if someone is my age, 22, I would strongly suggest that they bring some other people with them who have actual experience with the ocean.

I don't think I would let a 13-year-old make a solo voyage around the world. Her dad seems to think she's capable though. Really, I don't know.

Agreed. If she were my kid I'd say hell no.

She does have that experience, though:
Laura was born on a boat in New Zealand and spent the first four years of her life sailing around the world with her parents. She also spends her holidays sailing off the Dutch coast. In May, British authorities briefly detained her after she arrived alone in the eastern port of Lowestoft and said she planned to sail home alone, De Lange said.

She does have that experience, though:
So since she was born on a boat and spent her life on a boat up until the time she was four she is competent enough to sail solo? Sounds silly to me.

I just mean that she has sailed around the world before. Not that it means doing it solo is a good idea.

Well said...
And , if she dies trying...she has lived her True Will...
And *that* is something to celebrate...
I would be honored to have a child like that...
You go , Girl !

Sorry but at 13 one is not mentally developed enough to make a decision which will effect them for the rest of their lives. I doubt many 13 year olds can truly and fully grasp the idea of dying and making a decision which will put their life in great danger of doing so.

You can be sorry if you want...I won't stop you...
And , we all have different opinions...good thing...
And , we have gone around the merry go round , of
young people making their own decisions , before...
I won't be bothered to do it again , with you , or others...
And...I do believe someone said she had her father's support...
Without our modern laws...that is all that would be needed
in a tribal society...although mother's support , is always nice...
So...I still say...You Go , Girl !

Oh you don't have to..all you have to do is quietly step aside if you don't want to discuss the competence of 13 year olds. No one is forcing you to post in this discussion. :)

Two years alone at sea! That would be difficult for just about anyone, let alone a child.

True...and no one said the thread *had* to be about the competence
of a thirteen your old...
But , for the MW bored , they might want to rehash another old
arguement...ah , the life of the bored...
Me ?
I used the thread , in an alternate way...such as Glowy...
To wish her well , and give her support...got it ?
Or do you really have such a problem with it , and only want to
control other's lives , my friend ?

I don't have control over any ones life...why would you give me the credit of being able to do so?

Read my post...
I *did not* say you were able to do so...
Just asking if you wanted to do so , as
I keep seeing posts that *seem* to convey
that impression...

Hmm and that would be misunderstanding my personality or what I'm saying. If I wanted to control anyone I would work at doing so, however I have't. All I have done is express opinions you do not agree with. If I wanted to have something I would work toward it...not state my opinion on an open forum only to forget the drama in a few days. :)

Nice you clarified...
However , are you denying , if you were in a position of
political power , you would attempt to stop this girl , or
other young people , from doing what even their own family
supported , just because you did not agree with it ?
That is wanting to control others...

Additionally I don't see why it bothers you. I am as free to post my opinion as you are. You can ignore my posts simply by deciding to not take the time to read them. There is no use arguing this because I don't feel that you will attempt to listen to what I'm really saying. You have misinterpreted my intentions and my character. :)
Sorry but I refuse to continue this. You are free to disagree and post or not post to your hearts desire, however don't become disgruntled when I state that a 13 year old is not developed enough to make life altering decisions..and that has nothing to do with trying to control anyone and it speaks volumes of how you perceive me and my intelligence. Like I said, if I wanted to control someone I would work towards doing so, however that is last on my list of things to do. I think number 1 is to take a warm shower actually.
Good day.

Because I just saw this, "friend", before my last post I am going to ask you where I specifically said that and if you can find somewhere I actually wrote that, I will contact you through PM. Keep in mind the post must be in this thread since this is the thread we're arguing in. However if you can find somewhere I said that in another thread I would be more than curious to see where.
However to call me "friend" in any way would be untrue and unwelcome.
