Keep in mind, you can always trim your mugwort. Keeping it trimmed is all part of maintaining it...
You can do well planting in a large pot, as long as the pot drains well. Mugwort does very well in drier soil, is very tolerant of drier conditions, and actually does very well in poor soil conditions (low in nutrients where other plants would die).
