I know hospitals prepare for the worst. But isn't that going a bit overboard?

It seems like a legitimate mistake. Shit happens.

From the article:

Robertson said she contacted the hospital's chaplain to find out what happened and was told she was accidentally listed as deceased.
The hospital told CBC News that when patients are discharged, there's an electronic form for marking them either "discharged" or "deceased."
The wrong checkmark was made, and the error was not caught in a review of "deceased" forms.
The hospital's chaplain has apologized, Robertson said.
He told her it's been a decade since a similar mistake was made.

Umm its been more than a decade since a similar mistake was made! Give them some slack! Once in ten years is pretty damn good! It was an honest mistake.

That's kinda funny in a morbid sort of way.

Atleast they send a card! I mean, that's got to count for something... now she knows that when she does finally die... her family will get a card :)

This.

All I can say is, "Oops."

Oh. And at least it happened when she was HOME.

I agree with mistakes happen. Would be weird though, to get a card saying they were sorry that you died :p

They won't have to bother next time, they've sent theirs early!

Personally, I think that this looks like an honest mistake and the hospital explained it in a very satisfactory manner. The fact that they go to the trouble of sending a condolence card means something, they don't do that here in Britain!

nor here in Canada... they're more likely to misplace things than remember to send a card

*meh* I don't really think it's all that big of a deal. She wasn't harmed or injured in anyway, and it was a basic clerical error. Someone checked the wrong box. How many times does that happen in the world? I'm sure lots!

I would have framed that...And asked for a death certificate first before complaining to the hospital that you wern't actually dead! LOL it'd be awsome.:cutie:

No kidding!

I wonder if it's really been a decade or if people just got the card and laughed their butts off.

Decade seems like too long for that mistake NOT to happen, it seems so easy.

This was actually in Winnipeg. This must be something new.

This.

It was a normal mistake. And, like WitchJezebel, I would've laughed.

IMO if it has been ten years since they made an error checking a little box on a computer screen I know who I want running the government. Anyone remember the "Oops, we flew live nuclear missles over the US instead of the test dummies we meant to." from not long back?

This happened to my grandmother a few years back. She got a notice that she died and her social security was being stopped! A funeral home back east got someones social security number wrong by one digit! She had to get a letter from the home and 'prove' that she didnt die to get her social security back. It was a pain the butt for her, but I couldnt help but laugh, because you hear about this kind of stuff but never witness it.
