I ran into this article today, strangely, after posting in a thread about smoking in the Political forum.

I found this quite interesting. If it's already been posted, sorry.

Have you heard of the "E-Cigarette"? If you haven't and you're a smoker or even a non-smoker, today is your lucky day! An E-Cigarette looks like a cigarette, feels like a cigarette, taste like a cigarette, but there's something very different about it--it's a healthier way to smoke! To be good to be true? Actually no, it's not. Thousands of customers are raving about how amazing this product is. So much that they are recommending this product to everyone they know as a substitute for friends, colleagues, and loved one as a way to smoke, but in a non-harmful and healthier manner. This high-tech electronic smoking device provides the nicotine individuals crave, with none of the chemicals and tar that comes from your typical cigarette. Not only does it not harm the smoker, but there is none of the harmful second hand smoke either!

So what do you think? Will it ever catch on? Will a significant amount of people switch to these, or will the majority not, and this will just be a failed attempt that will only sell to a small handful? It does have benefits..aside from health. Smoking bans wouldn't cover these..so they could, legally, be used anywhere. They also would (with taxes on smokes being so crazy) be cheaper.

Anyway..thought it was interesting :p

I really want to see one in real life now. If I could hold, feel, look at one I might consider buying it. I like smoking but I hate that it bothers everyone and will potentially kill me lol.

If it seems too good to be true...

Actually, I hope it's true.

well...I wonder if it's like the old inhaler. About 7 or 8 years ago they had an inhaler that looked like the end of one of those plastic ended cigars. You put a cartridge in and it had nicotine in it. Was suppoosed to help you quit smoking. I think i used mine for 2 days and went back to real cigarettes. (for the record I've since quit)

I will do the free trial, every fake cigarette I've had so far has been full of fail.

I'm interested in trying these, however every single decent looking one I have encountered has been prohibitively expensive.

Also, nicotine itself is bad for you, so these are not healthy cigarettes, better than real ones, but still not exactly healthy.

The Native Americans are selling & advertizing real cigaretts because they do not come under the Federal add ban. You can also get herbal cigaretts. Back in the 1960's they sold Lettice cigaretts that burned up in 3 minute & was hot to smoke. I quit 11 yrs. ago.

i also remember hearing about a cigarette like this, used by one of the X-files characters...

very interesting.
i sure hope this catches on. smoking's done too much damage to the world, i think. this would come in, and so then no more holding your nose during carnivals. :hahugh:

though this product almost sounds too good to be true. anyone else think that?

My husband got some e-cigs to help him quit smoking. He's started smoking them instead of the cigs, and after he's finished with his full strength cartridges, he's going to go down a notch on the nicotine level until he gets the ones with none, then quit all together.

I wouldn't say that e-cigs are healthy but I'd say they're healthier. After all, they still have nicotine in them, they just have less of the bad stuff- tar, chemicals, less carcinogens, ect. Still, they're controversial at this stage because people are afraid of them. They're trying to go the 'there is this and that in it that may not be safe' route, but what they don't tell you is that said things are in infinitesimal quantities. I agree that, yes, there should be research done on them, but don't hold back a better alternative to smoking just because it's something to do with nicotine (and therefore must be as bad as cigs, right? *rolls eyes*).

But I agree with one thing that people are worried about- that people will think they are healthy. They are not healthy- they still have an amount of carcinogens, certian chemicals, and nicotine that a cigarette does, and are still addictive. They are a smoking alternative, and in some cases, an aid to lower nicotine levels to help quit. But they are not healthy. Everyone, especially younger smokers, need to know this so they're not in false security about what it can do to your health.

We will be trying it because next year our state will be activating their statewide smoking ban.
My mate is a welder...fumes more deadly than cigs and he smokes at work as most the welders do, but next June he wont be able to with the new laws. He wants to see if this will take the edge off especially since his shifts are 10 hours long and he cant leave work for breaks or lunch to go smoke.

The health factor this isnt any worse than caffeine and the artificial crap in processed foods.
They talk about health while they toss garbage in food and recall even veggys every few months.

And it is better than inhaling all the tar and chemicals that cigs have.

What about all the crap in the air on a busy street corner in a metro? Thats worse than smoking one cig!

I am sick of the health bull when our food has chemicals up the arse and its encased in plastics that leach more chemicals into the food!!!

Our world has become toxic for crying out loud and its not choice what air we breath.
We should have choice in what we deliberately do to ourselves.
If we want nicotine or caffeine or artificial sweeteners, so be it!!
It was a 'free' country they said once.

People kill themselves all the time with purposely taking risk. If we want to bubble the people it will be difficult because first we need to take away cars and ban running...we may fall down and crack our heads open!!!
I dont need nor want a mommy anymore.

JFI the gov is working on their nation wide soda tax. That too has been deemed bad for you. It is bad for you so will everyone want the tax?
RYO tobacco has a 24 dollar tax per pound. I wonder if they taxed soda 24 bucks for a gallon if the people would be happy since its not healthy for you to drink?
