I love tattoos on a woman. I don't have any myself, though I have a couple of piercings. The thing is, as an actor, I don't want to be typecast as "the guy with that ___ tattoo;" I can always take out the piercings. I've had some cool mehendi done on me.

I have one on my right shoulder blade that is a symbol that was 'given' to me right after Beltaine and my Druid elevation. As it is difficult to explain, I'll have to get a pic of it and post it here.

I have a design kicking around in the back of my mind with a triple hammer and anvil to put at the base of my spine, and about four others in the early idea stages.:D

Mm. If they weren't so permanent I'd have a ton by now. As is, I can't decide on something without thinking I'll be sick of it in a year or so. I'd love to find someone to do them well, that would let me build a ritual around the act.

I have a black celtic knot 3/4 of the way down my back on the left side. I'm very fond of it, and it looks great when I wear backless dresses.

I'd get another, but I don't know what I want.

I LOVE TATTOOS!!! I like them small and meaningful and out of sight. I don't have any yet, but my mom and I are getting tattoos together this winter break. *big grin*

I want a ton of really small, really meaningful tats:
My first will be the symbol for OM
A Butterfly with "Psyche" in Greek below it
Some sort of design around my bellybutton
A symbol that my friend Dan designed that symbolizes the clash between good and evil
And years from now I want a pentacle with water (somehow) symbolized over my heart.
I'd also like something Celtic somewhere on my body, but I don't know what I want yet...

*grins* All this talk about tattoos has got me aching to get another one done.

Psyche, I've got an "OM" on my left shoulder and I absolutely love it, now I'm considering having a lotus blossom added underneath....or maybe someplace else. *shrugs*

In my search for something else to use as a tattoo, I stumbled across this article. I thought you'd all get a kick out of it. :T

I have 4 tattoos, but only one is "magic" oriented. The first three are family oriented. I have a tribal rose on my ankle for my marriage/25th birthday. A Mickey Sorcerer with my son's name on the other ankle. An armband around my bicep with my daughter's name. The last one is a blue crescent moon around my belly button with a rose wrapped around it. The moon is for my Pagan beliefs and reverence for the power of the moon and the rose in Honor of My Lady, Demeter.

First, I'm going to loose some weight...

One of my cousin's (Dale) friends (Oni) does tats, and I've seen the work. Problem is catching him when he's not drinking. I will get shoulderblades to low-rise-jean line. I call it a full lower back. And yes, my design.

Price? $100. Catch? If I want color, I have to buy the ink.

*winces* Oy....I'm not sure I'd get a tattoo from someone who you have to catch on a "sober" day.
Especially on a tattoo that large.

I'm waaaaaaaay too chicken to get a tattoo, plus like Armitage (?) said, I don't much like the idea of the permancy of them. I'm happy with my temp's at the moment.

There is one I'd like to get though. My boyfriend at the time showed it to me, though it's not exactly 'magickal'.
It's a little black & white kitten that looks like it's ripped open your skin to get out. The picture of the tattoo had even detailed the bones and whatnot.

The Eye of Horus on the back of my neck (in a tribal design) and an ankh wrapped in ivy above my belly button.

I have lots of others, including a faerie, frog on my toe, and lots more, but the Eye and ankh are my only spiritual tatts, other than a tribal design on my leg.

Tattoos are so addicting. I'm really running out of places to get them. I don't wanna be too covered, but I always find myself wanting another one.

The Eye of Horus comes in handy with the kids, cuz I get to remind them that I have an "Eye" in the back of my head. LOL!

Wow COS! How weird is all this!!! We sure do have a lot in common! BTW - your mom sounds like one cool lady! I luv my "lil Jefro" (I call him Jefro, cuz everybody else uses Jethro).

I have 2 tatts, one is a simple stencil design that has a lot of meaning to it. It's a simple rose stabbed through a heart with drops of blood coming off one of the leaves. That's up on my left shoulder just above my collar bone. The other is on my upper right shoulder, so high it's almost on top. But that's of an anchor with a couple of feathers coming off of it. The Anchor symbolizes my families connection to the water and the feathers are their to represent unity and protection, they are white with black tips.

left ankle. I just got in July. It's somewhat magickal - a crescent moon with some stars around it and some wispy clouds in front of it. I was nervous when I got it, but only because I had a definite idea in my mind of how I wanted it to look and was afraid it wouldn't come out right. I wanted it to look kind of ethereal, so she did the moon in a purplish color, the wispy clouds are shades of blue, and the stars are yellow. It looks really cool, and now I'd like one in a more visible spot. I live in a cold northern climate, so no-one will see my ankles till May!! I'm a high school teacher, and my students think it's really cool that their science teacher has a tattoo and rides a Harley!

I have two tattoos, but only one of them is spiritual. The first one I got when I was 18, 2 days after my graduation from Highschool. I got it done because I wanted something to symbolize who I was at that point in my life. It' on the back of my right shoulder, above my shoulder blade, and it's a rose growing out of a music note.
The second is on my left arm, just below the shoulder bone, and it's the tripple goddess, with my zodiac symbol (aquarius) under neath, so it looks like the full moon is rising over water.
I plan on getting at least 3 more in my life time. One on my ankle (some kind of band, probably), one on my lower back (a large pentacle with each point having the elemental associations around it), and lastly, after I have kids, and I'm sure I wont be having more, a tattoo around my belly button with my kids names.

HerbN'Legend
December 5th, 2002, 08:58 PM
I also got my first tattoo at 18, right after graduating high school, senior week at the New Jersey shore actually. I got a rose on my right arm and loved every minute of it. Now 5 years later, I have 5 tattoos, my second was the Japanese symbol for music and pleasure (2 diff. dialects) on my back left shoulder, then I did a ankh in black on my left ankle. Then I waited about a year (money reasons) and did a custom design in black on my lower back. And this past summer, I got the tatt I always knew I wanted but had to save up for. Ready for this? In color, around the left ankle, custom designed Guns N' Roses. Its custom cause I didn't want the skulls in there, so its just 2 revolvers crossed around 2 roses. The guy did a fantastic job with shading and everything. Guns N' Roses is my forever musical favorite although they don't really fit with anything else I listen to. I'm going to the "New GNR" concert tomorrow in Philly actually - Yippee!

I'm so feeling the urge for more, and I was debating putting a child fairy with blue wings under a bluebell plant on my back (my WHOLE back) but that's out of the question until I pop this kid out anyway. So we'll see. I gotta save some room (and $$) to get my kids names on when I have them.

Loved seeing the pics on here - there's some really awesome stuff!

It is very possible to get carried away with body modification. The endorphins released during tattooing, piercing, branding, cutting, etc can prove very addictive, even though the substance is produced by your OWN body! I know two girls who have full sleeve ink to the wrists. One girl's tattoo artist left hers half-finished. She tried to have some of it removed by laser, but it was too painful. She told me that it is hardly the painless, blood free procedure that they would have you believe. The small area that she had done looked bad, like mottled scar tissue.

I have a small bat on the left side of my chest and then a green ankh on my inside right ankle, but although they have meaning for me there weren't done with magical intent. Hubby has an Eye of Horus on his bicep and a Celtic knot on his calf. I don't think he wants any more but I sure do! It's been a few years since I got these so I'm due, but the question is what? So many ideas, so I'm waiting for one in particular to call to me. :)

I have 4 with ideas for a few more. Some add ons to 2 of the ones I already have and a couple of new ones. My most recent and only magickal is a Sun on the back of my neck. I am going to add a Moon and maybe a star or two to it.
I also have a frog on my outter ankle, heart with rose on inner, and a unicorn on my sholder blade.
I want to add to my frog, have ideas for a back piece (want to loose wieght first) and hubby and I are trying to design one that we will both get with our boys names in it.

Currently I have no tattoos...but I'm going to be getting one within the year.

It's a custom job...about 5-6 inches across and about 10-11 inches from top to bottom. On my right shoulder, I'm going to get a Yin-Yang overlaid with 2 corresponding chinese dragons...one black and one white. Perhaps even just have them forming the symbol.

This is significant to me with the Yin-Yang of course symbolizing balance in my life and the dragons symbolizing power through wisdom.

Lately I've been tossing the idea around, and I'm thinking that I want to go on a visionquest to find out which totem would be most suited, possibly moreso than the dragons.

After that...who knows...

Just got my eighth tattoo finished today! It's a woman meditating above a flaming lotus - but I worked with the artist a bit (mainly on colors) so that it now represents a Shakti/Babalon figure (at least to me). It is so beautiful!
The woman who did this tattoo, that I am so happy with, is Darcy, and she works at Slave to the Needle in Seattle, WA.
I hope to end up with one full sleeve, but it's gonna be slow financial going with another cub on the way.

I love the tattoo pics that have been posted! I have four tattoos. They're somewhat small (but I'm a very petite person, so the proportions suit me), and not very elaborate, but they all have deeply personal meanings to me. I have: a crescent moon on my left shoulderblade, a sun on my right shoulderblade, a butterfly on my right hip, and "little fire" in kanji on my chest, just about an inch and a half below my collarbone, on the right side. I do sometimes wish I'd chosen more "artistic" renderings, but I definitely don't regret getting the symbols I chose, nor am I unhappy with how the tattoos turned out. I'd like to get one or two more, that would somehow incorporate the names of my cats, but there is absolutely no rush to do that.

This is a photo of my tattoo. She reprisents the goddess as she is in me. Angharad means "most beautifull" in Welsh. I thus call her The Brave and Beautifull. I have had this tattoo for five years now and I'm so glad I got it done. It is quite a large picture that covers the top of my leg but it is in a place I can show when I feel like it and cover up the rest of the time. I have another tatto which I will also post seperatly. That one is of a unicorn. I had that one done a very long time ago when I was 18 as a birthday presant to myself. I was young and impresionable so forgive the cute image, the unicorn was my totam animal at the time. I am going to have a crow next but I have to draw one as I feel I am more drawn to this as a totam animal. I'm curently working on the designe myself as since I drew Angharad I have been loathed to have another tattoo unless I have drawn it myself.

Hope you like the pics.

I have one tattoo, and it is spiritual to me... am going to get my second asap.. have plans for a bunch more..

The one I have now is a turquoise scarab beetle with the Japanese kanji for "spirit/soul" above, where the sun would usually go. I am going to add wings to him eventually, and a moon or sun around the kanji.. I just need to find the right wings. *laugh* He's between my shoulder blades. I got him because I'm Egyptian Pagan, and because scarabs represent regeneration, rebirth, protection, and life.. I'm also thinking of having my name in heiroglyphics, in a cartouche, above the scarab.. so up my neck perhaps.. as if he's holding the bottom of the cartouche.. the wings will probably be more angel-ish than normal Egyptian style but... we'll see. :D

The one I'm going to get maybe next week is a little frog on a tiger lily. It sort of has spiritual meanings, though I'd decided on it before learning this. I learned in the Native American (I think - can't find the book at the moment) medicine wheel, I am a Snake, of the clan Frog. He's going to be a little blue/green/turquoise frog with yellow feet and orange stripe-spots.. on an orange tiger lily.. at the base of my spine, quite big.. probably 4-5" either way. I'm so nervous! *laugh*

I also want an anklet of 7 animal sillhouettes on my right ankle. 7 is my special number, and the 7 animals are ones that mean a lot to me.. but I'm having a hella time designing it. *g*

I want to get a Scorpion somewhere - like my dad.. we're both scorpions, that was his first tattoo. I also want the little black cat from the Halloween Tarot deck - he's stylized, angular, funky and I just love him. *laugh*

I am also considering tiny (dime to nickel sized) kitty faces, colored as much like my cats as I can.. for each cat of mine that has died. 3 so far.. as a sort of tribute to those that I've loved who have gone on before me.

The first tattoo I designed was a Bast cat facing sideways, on a pedestal, with an ankh to the side and a circle around.. representing Bast, the moon, protection, etc.. to go on the back of my neck.. but it was too big and I didn't like it that much. I do want something on the back of my neck though.. I also want an Eye of Horus somewhere, but I'm not sure where.. and my zodiac sign.. and something tribal.. and.. and.. and..

I'm addicted but it's been over a year since this one.. so I'm finally getting another.. hehe..

I've got a few:

One is a large pentacle in the small of my back that's intertwined with leaves and vines.

On my back left shoulder is a a tree of life with red twisty roots and bark and green and yellow leaves.

I've also got a large butterfly on my right breast and a moon on my right ankle.

Both are my designs and I'm definitely not finished but I can't decide on a dragon or a fairy on my right arm.

i've always wanted a tattoo, right over my butt and below the small of my back....question?...what if i lose/gain weight?...will that ruin the look of the tattoo (DON'T LAUGH, THIS IS SERIOUS!)...i've lost 20 lbs and am working on the last 20, so should i wait ?

As a reward for me getting myself fit I'm going to alter slightly a symbol that represents infinity, and have it on back. I'm not particulary fond of colour tattoos, so it will be stylised in black. Aside from that, I'm not too sure, I'll wait until one sings to me. :)

as for color tattos, i never really thought about getting color till i started hanging out with a tattoo artist and he made me see things in a different way....of course it depends on the tattoo but if you have the skin for it why not....my skin holds color very well, too well in fact, most people ask me if my arm tatt is real LOL

Ok, I have no tats yet, but this is what I want:

1)*my lower back: this angel design I made...it's a black fairy looking one, except the wings will be purple.

One of my best friends my whole life was killed in a car wreck this summer, and it is to her, because altho I dont believe in the christian heaven/angels, etc. I do believe she has to be my guardian. (and purple was her fave color)

R.I.P Kari Summer Fahr...July 10, 1986- July 30, 2002

2)* outside left ankle: small black ahnk

3)* inner left ankle: small black bat

4)* A green celtic knot in my inner-arm (like where your elbow is, only on the inside..make sense?)

5)* The words "DROWN" written in runes on my inner left wrist

6)* Aquarius symbol on my inner left ankle

7)* lil sprig of cherries on my naughty bits ;p

8) and the words "K-ROck". somewhere. lol

I am going to get one...I am trying to finalize the design. This is a big deal for me...as Ben said in another thread I am a total square. If folks at work saw the tattoo I want they would poo themselves. ;-)

So I have the question that I am sure is asked a million times. How bad does it hurt?

truthfully, yes it hurts, but it all depends on your pain tolerance, if you are relaxed, where it is located on the body and so forth, the key though is to be a relaxed as possible! make sure you take deep breaths and try and not focus on the pain, mind over matter babe! thats what its all about

The fortune city ones weren't working. Thanks for the link. Lots of piccies to keep me entertained! hee hee. :)

I realised my last post might have sounded a wee bit...peculiar. So I'll clarfiy. Basically I'm:
A) terrified of pain and
B) a really indecisive person.
I'm scared to get a tattoo in case I wake up in 6 months time and decide I hate it!

I've thought about it though. If I got one done, it would be my father's initials, possibly on the inside of my wrist, because I know I'd never regret that. Also I'd like a paw. A canine paw.

Nothing too big mind. But I'll probably never go through with either of them. I'm way too much of a wimp! lol. :)

Heh...well I have a decent tolerance for pain. Like most things its probably not nearly as bad as one imagines it to be....but...well is it like having a tooth drilled when they dont have it dead? Or like a burn or something? Any somewhat common pain you could reference?

Also...Mol...I know you are in my area...where did ya go to get yours done? Is it llegal in these parts?

I don't have any yet, but I'd like quite a few.

1. A welsh leaf with a scroll beneath it reading, "Ich Dien", meaning "I serve", in German. My boyfriend of three years gave me that necklace, it was his Grandfathers, who served in WW2. I've always cherished it. :loveduv:

2. "Y Gwir Yn Erbyn Byd", "The truth against the world".

3. A small celtic dragon wrapped around the words in bold, "Dark". (Personal tat).

4. My personal sigil or my name in theban script on either my hip or arm.

5. Bat wings on each shoulder blade (as if they're growing out of my back). :bat:

And maybe more later, but those are the first tats I intend on getting in the next few years. :)

i have none yet, but there's two i want.
one is Hekate's wheel, which i plan to have done ritually and traditional (hammer and needle, no gun). i know a girl who does wonderful work this way, although i've lost track of her recently. that's okay, as i don't have the money anyway. but i have my priestess and drummer all lined up for whenever it does happen.

the other one i want is of our standing stones. this one i'll have done the usual way, and i'm going to get it done with my buddy Stonethimble, who was instrumental in getting these monterous suckers up!
so i figure it would be cool to commemorate the event with matching tats...

If and Rune people out there could try to answer this question.

What would happen if you get a rune as a Tattoo. Maybe you could get the tattooist to envoke the rune while he/she was tattooing.

I am getting a dragon on my left shoulder and a salamander on my right cheek (Bottom). I would like a rune to go with my dragon.maybe Dragon written in rune on my right shoulder.

salamander, I just finished an article for the 2005 edition of the magical almanac on this exact topic....it incorporates personal sigils into the tattoo, and serves as a permanent spell..... I can't tell you all about it because llewellyn's has purchased the rights, but I can skim it briefly I think.
Vision questing and meditating to find your proper goal is the most important part, because it is going on the body permanently as a spell, so the goal must be secure, and a top priority in your life. then it is important to test it out before inking it into the skin, to make sure there are no conflicts. after that comes the incorporation of artwork and other symbols, added to the sigil...... if you are interested PM me and I can go into further detail.

I've been wanting a tattoo ever since I was a kid but of course, everyone always say no...don't do it...you'll regret it. And there's the pain factor as well.

Well, this year, I'm going to be turning 42. I think I'm old enough to pick something that I can live with for what's left of my life! :D I'm debating whether to do a bracelet or a single small tattoo. So for all you tattoo pros out there, I have a couple of questions...

Does it hurt? Does it hurt more on the boney part of you or the fleshy part? How do you go about finding a reputable tattoo artist? How long does it take to heal?

CloakofStars9
August 5th, 2003, 03:51 PM
thats awesome, my mom is 55 and he got her first one this year :)

as for your questions, it really all depends, everyone is different, for some it hurts more on the bone, some more on the fleshy part, the one i have on my spine felt the best but that was just me ;) get it where you want it, its gonna hurt no matter where you put it anyway
plus there is always the mind over matter thing, take deep breaths the whole time , relax your body and mind and i promise it will be a good experience
i found out about the 2 tattoo artists i have been too through the grapevine, through friends and word of mouth, you might wanna visit your local tattoo shops and hang around to watch the artists work and check out their portfolio's
never let an artist make you feel stupid for asking questions either, a true artist will take you through it step by step if you ask them ;)
as for healing, that all depends on the person as well, also depends on how big it is, if its colored in or just an outline, how big it is and how well you take care of it

anything else drop me a line ;)

Good for you. Just pick something that is significant to you and your life. Most tattoo artists will even let you bring your own design,

Now for the questions. Yes, there is some pain involved and it does hurt more when it's closer to the bone. There is a spot on your upper underarm that doesn't hurt as much as you feel it all the way down your arm. I hang out in a tattoo shop quite a bit and see people come and go all of the time. I have noticed that women have less problems with the pain than men. Sandman (Bob Forrey), my tattoo guy has even had women giggle and laugh because it tickled them. The outline is worse than the color, but your endorphins kick in and you just don't feel it much. Depending on the artist and you it takes about 3-4 weeks to fully "heal." Take good care of th tattoo and it will heal quicker. As far as finding a good artist you should check with people in your area who have "ink." A good shop will be clean, use NEW needles with each customer have quality ink and (very important) will autoclave his implements.

Well, there is my 2 cents.

I got my first tattoo when i was twenty, a cosmic yin yang with beautiful colours, people thought it was fake to start with. Then when i was twenty two i took my mum with me to get two more. I got a water yin yang on my left arm and an indian feather with beads and a rose on my right arm. My mum spent her time saying "get it on your back, get a butterfly or a flower somewhere private" the funny thing is though, where they are, unless i choose to show them, you woldn't know they are there.

I'd like to get a Norse style tattoo soon, but I haven't seen many.

A little piece of advice though, think about where you get round tattoo's because after having babies and breast feeding, circle's become ovals - although it's always nice to know where your boobs once sat. :wah2:

I've been wanting to get a second tattoo, somewhere a bit more visible so I can show it off without having to bare a lot of skin, so I've decided to get one on my back, at the base of my neck. I saw a pendant online, called "the pentacle of the Goddess" and I drew it, made some slight modifications, and here it is... I don't know how much it is going to cost, and I haven't quite decided if I want colour or not. I think definitely I want to do the flowers in colour (there are 9 of them, so I'm thinking pink, blue & orange flowers, 3 of each) and the vines, but I don't know about the pentagram itself. Maybe solid black? I need to play with it. If I have time today I'm going to stop at a tattoo shop and get an idea of price. I wasn't terribly impressed with the guy who did the moon on my hip, because I asked him not to make any changes to the design, and he added shading, even though I told him I wanted it left alone :bastard:

Actually, in some areas $100/hour is not that expensive, it's really about average. Some tattooists even charge for the use of color (which is a scam, in my opinion. The guy I use is real reasonable but has a minimum charge of $50.00 for a tattoo. This is partially to cover his costs. It's very important to get your ink at a shop that uses NEW needles for every tattoo. These needle setups can be either bought or built by the someone in the shop. Well, I could ramble on about this, but I won't. The big thing is to make sure your artist is CLEAN and has a CLEAN shop and AUTOCLAVES his equipment in sterile bags.

Okay, I'm offa my soap box ;)

Yeah... The only difference is that the owl in Labrynth was a Barn owl, and the one in the tattoo is the Snowy Owl, which is my Spirit Animal. I love all owls though... Blessed of my Matron Goddess Athena. Traz found this one and it's just perfect...

you'll find someone to do it, good luck!I am shopping around ;) I'm in Canada too though, so that makes a difference. I actually have a friend who knows an artist, and she's got this beautiful silhouette of a tree with a sunset on her shoulder, so I'm going to see if she can talk to her artist about my tat :)

I have a 'coven' tat... One that my former group designed together - it's on my ankle - it's a triple goddess symbol with a pentacle in the middle w/ spirals and other little details

CalliopeHellice
August 23rd, 2003, 09:40 PM
My first tat was a small, black tribal butterfly on my tail bone (the Butterfly was my first totem).

My second tat was a black line, simple knotwork shamrock (represents my Irish roots, plus the Triple Goddess).

I plan on getting a black tribal Crow (my other totem) with it's head over the top of the butterfly, with the wings spanning either side to my hips, and feet jutting out the bottom of the butterfly.

I also plan to get a Wheel of Hekate between my shoulder blades, and when (if) I ever get married, a claddaugh symbol somewhere.

Here are pics of what I have and want (some of them, anyways):

There's a shamrock similar to mine (only mine is more "loopy")
And a Wheel of Hekate
And a tribal Crow similar to what I want

Used to say that I had no tattoos because I'd never seen anything I wanted to have permanently emblazoned on my body.

One day I knew what was right for me: the yin/yag symbol made up of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, surrounded by Spirit.

That's the concept. Unfortunately, my creative talents don't include drawing; I don't even have an image in mind for someone else to draw.

Any of you artistic types out there up to a challenge? I'd be willing to work out a barter for your services, or even money if I have a job by then.

You could post it here, or e-mail me.

(I do believe that if i'm meant to wear this symbol, it will come to me. Until then, I'll keep patiently searching...)

I currently have 3 tattoos;
A tribal style mermaid on my right upper arm, done march 2000,
A faerie (which I designed myself in the same style as the mermaid so they'd match) on my lower back, done march 2003,
And a little scrollwork heart done in a *private* little area (put it this way, if I was only in my underwear, you wouldn't be able to see it), done 2 days ago! :)

I'm definately addicted, and I've got ideas and designs for most of my body! Luckily, I've found a really cheap tattooist in the next town over, who is also the most talented I've ever seen! Bonus!!! :D

I have one that I suppose is magickal.

It is my initials... G T the "t" is a water stick, because I am a Pisces. It is surrounded by bubbles ...three. one for my son. one for my daughter and one for my granddaughter. Bubbles to me are magickal.

My next one will be for my husband, A pitcher pouring out water, (he is an aquarius). The water turned into a heart. That is if I can ever get the money.

I also have one that is 5 hearts that make a star. That will be the next one.

this is mine. its plain and simple, and i hope to keep it that way, though i have had many monets when i thought: wouldn't it be better in colour, but then i came to my senses. i am thinking of putting a japanese symbol for "enigma" betwee the two pieces of it. someday. when i have money. or maybe when i move back to the city and have my unfriend's friend if she will do it for a batch of chocolate chip cookies like she did for my unfriend.
in memory of an aborted baby, whose cells i held in my hand and buried in the flowerbed, aborted completely against my will, poor little Strawberry.
http://twylight.reallyrules.com/art/poetry/portrait.html
i have two others, one on each ankle. my sister has said that she keeps wanting to swat the giant bug off my foot when she has seen it. though it looks nothing like a bug. each ankle is a golden brown version of yefat's butterfly
i want more. its like they say: "once you start ...." .. which always reminds me of the "nice men don't want the vote" tv commercial

I just got my first tattoo last weekend. Hubby and I took our family to visit a friend I met online 3 years ago and to celebrate she and i got tats at the same time, our chairs faced each other. Mine is the yggdrasil... or tree of life in green, it matches my pendant that i wear. She got a rose with an infinity symbol and her partners name under it.

It did hurt, but everyone is right... as long as you breathe... it will be ok... It sort of felt like someone stuck a sharp needle on my skin and then dragged it...

i will post a picture as soon as it heals completely... :)

I have one tatt now, a small green gecko luck lizard on my left ankle but I have plans for a big one on my upper back. I'd like to get a pair of faerie wings done but I want them to look transparent and am having trouble finding something I like. I'd also like to get something to represent my 2 sons but again, nothing is jumping out at me. Guess this would be one of those lessons in patience, huh? lol It doesn't help that I live in the middle of nowhere and the only tattoo artist up here specializes in motorcycle tattoos...not exactly my style.

I'll post a pic once the coloring is done and healed... it itches like crazy right now!

I had to design my own phoenix, since I wanted it to look more like a hawk than a peacock. Find a good tattoo artist to work with, they are usually pretty good at helping you design the art.

Ok, well I was a big ass BABY when I got mine! Everyone had told me that it felt like bee stings. Yeah right!! For me, it was like someone slicing and burning my flesh at the same time!!! But, alas, I do want more!! I've been dying to get another one actually, but as is common with lots of us, money, money, money! I plan to, at some point, get a fairy (amy brown Shy Violet, Wild Violet(my favorite) or Periwinkle, I think) with lots of foilage and my kids' names put in the vines at the small of my back. I also want something on my neck, a celtic symbol but I can't decide what. I want a dragonfly on my left shoulder blade and I've always wanted a butterfly on my big toe. So, hopefully sometime soon I'll be able to share another one, but for now, here are a couple pics of the one I do have. It's above my right ankle.

I cant find a pic of it on the web, cos i spent months trawling shops and the web looking for the 'one', originally it was gonna be a celtic cross but i didnt find any i liked, and then, in a back street tatoo shop yards from my house, i dug out some old files of his, and voila! it was there almost smiling at me! an the great thing was, he was half the price of the other guys who i asked!

Have any of you guys ever gotten tattoos done ritually?

My wife got her tattoo (a purple Eye of Horus on her shoulder) done by a guy (I think his name is Abraham) at a pagan festival in upstate NY. He has other people form a circle around you and raise energy and chant while he's doing the tattoo -- she says it's a really incredible experience. We're going back to that festival this spring, and I'm thinking of getting one from the same guy.

Wolf guiding my left shoulder, Hawk guiding my right shoulder, The Sacred Path (in the works) Center, Sister Feather over my heart, and to come is a Dragon covering scar on left thigh, Butterfly on right thigh, representing my daughter. Planned for Dad's passing are my well earned wings, tailbone. He has always said I am his Angel Flying to close to the ground. <Willie Nelson> (Dad, one of the True Hells Angels.) I have the symbol for *blessings* from Cunningham's book on my back/left shoulder. It is like the crescent moon pointed upwards with three raindrops below. I would really like to design a whole back piece but I am unsure of where to start. I have bits and pieces of ideas, that's about it. My first tattoo was *spur of the moment*, I was shaving my legs and thought "I want a tattoo." So I went and got one when my husband(then boyfriend) got home. It isn't magickal though. It is Winnie-ther-Pooh. I wish I would have waited, or given it more thought, because even though mine was the first Pooh tattoo the guy had done, I have seen more and more people with PoohBear. :eyez: Eh, well...I have a butterfly as well. So I have three all together.

Can I get some advice? What are some of the best places to get tattoes that can be easily concealed? The one I'm looking at--once my dedication is complete--is a pentacle-based design with a celtic crescent moon in it. If my folks ever saw it, I'd be disowned twice, once for the tatoo, once for the content of it ^_^ Plus it will be a magica one, I'd like it to be somewhat private.

However, it seems like most of the best spots to hide them are on the back of the body, and I was thinking of wanting mine on the front where I saw it day to day. Normally the skimpiest thing I wear is shorts and a tank-top, so any ideas hidden by that are good. In an ideal world, I could hide it even in a reasonably respectable 2-piece bathing suit, but that may be asking a little much. The places that HURT the least are also the best as I have a SE VERE needle phobia ^_^

The pentacle is in the shape of the triple goddess so it has two crescent moons the waxing and the waning either side and the full moon with the pentacle in the middle :) Tattoos arnt that painful really its just like a tiny little kitten scratching at your skin and then it kinda goes numb its the outline the black ink that hurts the most Id sooner have a tatt than a peircing lol

I'm contemplating a Chinese character on the back of my neck, but haven't decided which one yet.

I also want the one I had done when I was 18-19 added to. It's a faery sitting in a crescent moon....and it's just too ordinary. But back then I didn't have a lot to choose from, and it was a spur-of-the-moment decision, as my best friend was moving cross-country and we wanted to have a bonding ritual. If I remember correctly, we were probably stoned  . And it was the artist's first day on the job!

And - I want a pair black-ink stylized wings on my back, between my shoulder blades.

A friend of mine told me that once you've had three tattoos you get addicted, I think I must just be weak then, I got one last year after saying I was going to at somepoint since the age of 13! I have a little dragon on my upper left arm, he wasn't quite the one I wanted but the sheet with the design I originally saw disappeared out of the studio (and every other one in town apparently!). I've definitly fallen in love with the little guy though and he looks all protective of me which I figure is a good thing!

I haven't got the spare cash for another one at the moment but I've got my heart set on something pretty and celtic, preferably a triple knot that is something different, I may have to put some of my more arty friends to work on the subject.

Yeh, my mom kinda said the same thing. She was like, it doesn't hurt that much you know. Some people have nearly fainted though  where as others can take it easily. I think it's not exactly so much about your pain thresh-hold, but what type of pain you can take.

I'll pluck up the courage some day  ... i can't get one anyway yet as i'm pregnant, but i'd like one afterwards...

ahhh tattoos **big wide hopefull dreamy eyes...a lil bit of drool running down edge of mouth**
haha I don't have any right now but I'm planning on getting alot of work done when the time is right and I have the money for them. The first will def. be a crab with the cancer symbol between its big claws or whatever you call them, since I'm a Cancer.
I've been thinking about a faery, well lets be honest here, there will be tons of them when I'm 90...in a glass cage sitting with her knees pulled to her chest with a sad look on her face, cuz lets face it if shes in a cage shes probly not really happy about it.
I'm gonna get a yin yang symbol somewhere, but I'm hoping that I can find something else that would symbolize balance in my life.
Dragons are also a big thing, I want to have a big dragon piece on my back, maybe on the right side of my back coming around to my side.
I'll probably have alot of fey and zodiac related tats done over the years.
Also I was thinking about a picture of me and my sister, cartoonyish, with symbols and other things around it that connect us
And if someone talks me into it Ill get 'Daddys Little Girl' somewhere lol I love my daddy!!!!!!!
Oh yeah, I might get hecates wheel, prob. on my lower back. And I want a pic of medusa too, I found a GREAT drawing, its so beautiful, definatly getting that one. And moons too, moons and stars, trip.goddess and a few cresents...lotsa moon/sun/star ideas hehe
Everything else is gonna haveta wait til after I have kids.

I had a question though, I know what happens if you gain weight after getting a tat(it gets all stretched out lookin) but what would it look like if you lost weight? Would it look like all wrinkely or something? Like your hands after a long shower all purney?? Or would it just be smaller and less detailed?? Just curious..

Oh, Yeah!! I have two and I love them both. Something about tatt's just makes you want to get more and more. My first is on my right shoulder, it is a picture of Marduk from the Gate of Ishtar. My second I just got this year with my best friend, It is on my left shoulder and it is a Phoenix.

I don't have a tattoo yet but I will be getting one in the near future. I am going to get a Triquetra because I just love that symbol. I am going to be getting it on my back but just not sure where yet. I have plans on getting more tats and piercings in the future as well. :)

Blessings,
Wyn

*grins* All this talk about tattoos has got me aching to get another one done.

Psyche, I've got an "OM" on my left shoulder and I absolutely love it, now I'm considering having a lotus blossom added underneath....or maybe someplace else. *shrugs*

In my search for something else to use as a tattoo, I stumbled across this article. I thought you'd all get a kick out of it. :T

 Beware, the guy's a bit of a ranter.

Holy Shiznits!

I just came across this because of another thread today. Well, this guy is my Mother's old pastor. I had to deal with his sermons 3 times weekly until I was 15... ugh! Wow what memories! .... and not good ones.

i have five but i have a bad habit with my tats everytime something bad happens i go get a new one. the wolf on my right shoulder was done at the same time my brother got his AWWW famioly momnet. the cresent with the symbol for wolf was done when i broke up with my bay friend. the didturbed sign i got after a reeeeealy crappy week of fighting with my then G/F. the tribal heart on my left armwas when i was so depressed about being me i had to do something to permanantly change. the last one that i got was because i had just found out about the G/F cheating and i had to be brave to start over again so i got the symbol for bravery right next to my neck. the worst part about getting them all was now my skin is very sensitive where they are at if my boyfriend kisses the bravery symbol i always get the shivers and giggles.

I didn't see this thread, before posting my tattoo thread, so I appologize for reapeating a thread.

I don't have any pagan related tattoo, as I'm not a pagan, but I do have three tattoos so far. The first tattoo of the cat was a birthday present from my mother. That surprise the heck out of me, because she hates tattoo. I wanted a tattoo ever since I was about 15-years-old and my mom always told me I had to wait until I was 18. Too bad I didn't ask for a tattoo for my 18th birthday. If I knew my mom would have payed for it as a birthday gift I would have gotten one at 18 rather than 20. I was planning on paying it for myself, but then she surprised me when she offered to pay for it as a birthday gift. My second tattoo of the angel I got for free because that tattoo dude found me hot. The third tattoo of the pit bull I got in Holland and had to pay 190 Euros for. Dave payed for half of the tattoo.

The reason I got my first tattoo was because I strongly believe in God and I'm huge animal lover. So I got a picture of my cat tattooed on me saying God's Animal Lover. I got my second tattoo because I love angels. And I got my third tattoo because I love pit bulls and they are highly misunderstood just like I am.

I plan on getting at least two more. One will be as soon as I can get the money. It will be of a myrtle tree with a rabbit on one side of the tree and an iguana on the other side of the tree. It'll also have two doves flying above the tree. The myrtle tree repersents peace as well as the two doves. The rabbit is honor of a pet rabbit I had for 7 years, and the iguana is in honor of a lizard that I had and the iguanas that I took care of seinor year of high school in biology class. The other tattoo I want to get when I have kids. It'll be a Noah Ark scene with my childrens' names on the ship.

Here are the pictures of my tattoos:

There's 22 pages of this thread, so I'll have to go through and look at all the pictures of the tattoos. I love tattoos!

<Willie Nelson> (Dad, one of the True Hells Angels.) There are three more Animal guides in which I will wait to complete my backpiece. And then there are my ankles witch are on reserve. But all will be complete within the next 3 years.

Is it possible to have a temporary tattoo designed for you? I seem to recall a story about some folks going to a local tattoo parlor to have temporary tattoos put on....

Doesn't hurt as bad as you think and the temp tats are just that temporary. Its worth whatever pain you go through, or at least it was for me.

My wolf spirit, with a triple goddess inspired tribal, and a crescent moon.
The only one I have on me right at this moment... but once I get some time and finances to do such things, I plan on a few more. And I would not get anything put on me that was not meaningful in some way. So prolly all of the ones I will get in the future would be magical as well.

I used to have a bumper sticker that said: "It's all about the pain, the ink is just a souvenir."

But really, the pain is relative, best thing is not to overthink it.

Hah hah! I'm always jump-starting these threads that've gone quiet. Just wanted to show off my new tattoo, which may not seem "magical" in general, but since Wind is one of the primary Mysterious Ones I am in relationship with, and since I plan to dedicate my working life to wind energy, it's a pretty magical symbol to me. The grass goes all the way around.

I have a trinity knot for the 3 phases of the Goddess, and I have dragon.

I have four others, but I wouldn't consider them "magical" I have a tribal sun, a celtic chain, a shamrock and a celtic knot.

I would say around your hip area. If you put one on your back it would be difficult to hide from your mom if you were ever to be changing clothes in front of her. :shhhh: Oh, and as long as you're legal age, hehe.

I have a smallish purple pentagram on the right side of my back. I can cover it with the waist band of my trousers if I want/need to. But I don't think it's obviously a pentagram unless you know what you're looking at, most people usually say "That's a pretty star!"

I've also got a daisy chain tattoo around my belly button. They're very addictive, I had to make myself stop or I'd be covered in them by now. It that adrenalin rush... have to stop thinking about it or I be off to the nearest tattoo parlour. :)
