View Full Version : Goodbye to our 'Crone Cat'

There has been great sadness today in our household :wah2:

Our black cat was getting very frail, deaf, poor vision, matted coat, partially incontinent and extremely thin around the hips/flank area. She had reached an amazing nineteen and a half years old and it had been a long and happy life.

So we had to face the ordeal of taking her to the vet, knowing that there was every likelihood that we would be advised to have her painlessly put to sleep. The vet said one of her kidneys had ceased to function and the other one was barely functioning so we knew she would soon deteriorate in enormous pain just like our lovely tabby cat did two and a half years ago. We always regretted letting him reach that point and suffer so much before the vet released him.

So we made the decision and she died peacefully on the vet's table while I stroked her head gently and talked to her. We brought her home, wrapped her in a blue towel and buried her beneath our beautiful myrtle tree decked in its white flowers.

Knowing that we did the right thing doesn't necessarily make it any easier to bear :awwman:

Hello Flora.

I know well the bonds of Love that form between us and our Pet's and have tasted the heartbreak of when a loved companion goes where I cannot yet follow.

If I could gift you this.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

With love.

I know how hard it must have been... but I believe in my heart that we will see our fur angels again in the next realm. Until then, many hugs!

Thank you. Thank you for loving your dear cat enough to give her this gift, for ensuring her living days were happy and for letting her go with the dignity and grace she deserved.
It is so hard on those they leave behind - *hugs* to you and your family. Please know you did right by her.
Every time that Myrtle tree blooms, know she is with you in your hearts.

I am very sorry to hear that, and although it's never easy to bear the weight of the sorrow and absence of your loved companion, it will get easier.

I am so sorry. I lost two dogs to cancer last year, so I know what you are going through. I am sending good thoughts your way.

:hugz: Galore....

I'm so sorry... Losing a beloved animal friend is losing a family member in my opinion.

Lots of love and hugs to you and your family. May your beloved cat be welcomed and loved in the next realm and may she always be with you in spirit. :hugz:
