Hello everyone, i was just looking at general information about ireland, and obviously im looking at areas with much green grass and green trees and woods. If i can find that picture thats reaccuring ill post it. Anyhow, i was wondering, i spent a long time looking, and couldn't manage to figure out, which is the more countryside part of ireland? I think one part was named Kalaway, something near that, but it was on the water, it would be incredible to find an area with large vast woods and hills and grass, and at the same time a little ocean on the edge... just wondering hehe, i won't be able to move there if i plan to start a life there for another 6 years so its not a big deal at all, im just very curious because im called to it

Hello, Tranquility. I recently made a trip to Ireland, but am not from there, so i do not know if this info will be of great help. First off, I believe the city/place you speak of is Galway. The more countryside of Ireland is its west coast, where the Aran Islands, Connemara, and Shannon are. It makes sense that the west coast of Ireland is more country like, and 'irish-ee' than the east is, b/c England has a lot of influence and history having to do with that part of Ireland including Dublin and Waterford.
Some place that might be of interest to you are the Dingle Penninsula and the River Shannon. Both of these are on the west coast, and offer waterside living accompanied by breathtaking vistas. I hope that this helps you.

From all that I've heard from my relatives in Ireland, it's not really much like America, at all. MOST Of it, is still small villages, surrounded by farmland, or coastline. Belfast, Dublin, and Galway are the largest cities (from what I know) and as long as you stay away from those cities, you'll find ALOT of lovely farmland, and small villages, to entertain you.

Just check out this page on the Glens in Antrim...

My Family in Ireland, are located in Northern Ireland in the Bann Valley (near Coleraine, which straddles antrim, and derry) in a part which is called the lower curragh. This area is known for it's wonderful fishing spots. There are mountains, lakes, and rivers aplenty in this area, and it is truly lovely.

On the western bank around Coleraine, the valley is wooded hillside, while on the eastern bank there is rich agricultural soil, producing barley and suitable for rearing poultry, pigs and sheep.

The other part of my family, can be located in County Cavan, near Ballinagh, in Kilmore Parish. This is considered "Midlands", and it is ruggedly beautiful territory, dotted with lovely little villages, bogs, forests, hills, and valleys. My family there are still farmers, living on the homestead which has been in the family since at least the 1700's, perhaps even before that.

This is the Local Ireland Website, the section about Cavan.

In short, there is natural, untouched beauty to be found in almost every geographical area of Ireland. And because it is so small a place, One never has to travel too long, to get to the coast, even if they live inland.
