Just wondering what everyone does for a living....

I had to choose other because you didn't have 'almost all of the above'!
Let's see... first on the list.. food service. Do some of that for my work, let alone for home.
Industrial / Warehouse - well... my place of work is in an industrial factory.
Office Assistant - Yeah... I assist to do pretty much everything. Pays, accounts, invoicing, typing, filing...
Medical - I'm sure I've had to include that in my present job somewhere. I swear our guys are accident prone. I have done nursing though. For a nursing home.
Computer Repair - Before my new boss came on the scene, I was the only one who was even remotely qualified to even turn on the fricken commputer! I wouldn't even let Hugh near it. If he wanted to do something on the comp, I'd ask him what it was and set it up for him. My new boss, Steve, has a better idea, but he still leaves it as my responsibility.
Computer Support - See above.
Business Owner - I may as well be! lol But I'm not. And for the very reason that I've seen my old boss Hugh stress over the smallest things. I don't wanna go through that. Not too mention all the freaking taxes a business has to pay.
Author - Well.... ok.... I did say almost all of the above.
Artist - Does this include Graphic Design? Because I've had to design letter heads, business cards and newsletters.
Student - Well.... I really don't think anyone can say that they aren't learning all the time.
Homemaker - I'm trying... really I am... but I have so little time left! I've been collecting the odd thing here and there to make my home look nice....
Unemployed - See 'Author'

I picked "other" - I'm a proofreader for a company that does typesetting (among other things). I get to proof things like resumes, invitations, contracts, business forms, flyers, posters, address labels, you name it...
Some days I feel like I'm getting away with something. They pay me to read and nitpick - two of my favorite things!
It's not what I ultimately want to do "when I grow up", but it will certainly do for now. I've been working there for over three years and I still don't hate my job - a record!

;) I'm very good at my job. Although I don't make the average for my area. But were a small company. The best perk I have is that I have no problems getting off work to do stuff with my kids. Course, I'm careful not to take advantage. Also, because I was not exactly getting to work on time....they changed my hours! I come in later, but still get off at the same time.:D

Sounds like me, WC. I'm supposed to start at 9am, but I can be found getting in my office any time between then and... I think the latest I've been in is 11am. But come pay time, I still get paid from 9am. And I also get time off for personal stuff. But like you, I'm careful not to take advantage of it. Not too mention I just plain don't like doing it all that often unless I really have to.

I chose other, because "technically" I'm unemployed because it's illegal for me to work here, because I don't have a work permit. However, I do a lot of odd job work for my husband's office (just finished 200 hours of copy typing, for example). After the holidays I'll be the office manager while the current one is on maternity leave, and after that, I'll be her nanny. :)
In my other life (before I moved to the middle of nowhere), I was a "client co-ordinator" in a hypnosis clinic which was a combination Secretary/administrator/office manager.

Third shift at a Convenience Store.
Started on that shift to take care of my late Dad who suffered from Alzheimer's. He passed in April, but I've been dragging my feet about finding something new. The strange, bizarre , magical and dangerous come out in the night. I've only been hurt once in 3 going on 4 years...a black eye. I've had a mysterious dark man come into my store, wait until the others were gone... then showed me a magic trick...he floated an object between the palms of his hand...I'm still trying to logically explain that one to myself. Never saw him again after that. I'd have to say the most
interesting customer I've had was a young stripper who is now in Jail for robbing and murdering a millionaire with her boyfriend.
I used to card her for cigarettes, So I knew the name and soon after her face was on the front page in these parts...her driver's license picture!!! Things that make you go "hmmmmm"
I've been encouraged by my friends and family to find something safer...so maybe it's time to become a....Student.

I work in an automotive factory building exhaust systems. I've been with this company for 15 years. So far since I've been there I've been a plain ole machine operator, then I learned how to run the robots, which welded parts together. Then I became a welder, I didn't like that because it got hotter than the blazed of H-11 in the summer. Now I'm in cutoff, which just cuts large pieces of pipe down into the proper length for the car part.
At home I'm studying to be a medical transcriptionist. I cannot see myself doing the other job until I retire, because it's very hard work. I'm 36 now and not getting any younger. So I need to find something that I'm going to be able to do when I'm 50. There are people at work that are that age, but can't do as much as others and are a lot slower and I don't want to be one of them.

I guess I'm a graphic designer because that's what it says on my degree...but when I go into work I'm actually calculating termination and shortfall charges for SBC customers.
When I open the paper and look under "graphic design", I don't see ads, I see tumbleweeds.
I chose artist in the poll, but I'm not sure that's correct because an artist has freedom to create and express - my design jobs so far have required me to "think out of the box", and then pass those ideas around to 15 people who think everything should be blue and have the ability to make me do what they want.
Needless to say my chosen field hasn't given me much joy, but it did teach me a lesson: don't be influenced by others around you when it comes to your career, find what you like and just do it. Or at least try. I'm thinking about doing this if things don't turn around soon.
Still, I AM happy at my current post - my boss is a friend, I make the same money I did before and the company knows I'm still trying to find something in my field and they make it easy for me. Perhaps if the economy improves they'll have some design openings here...I can dream..:bubbles:

No reason not to laugh now.I do all the time.At first there was a little confusion as I had hardly been sick a day in my life but once I remembered what I've been studying and my belief in myself to be able to heal myself it was easy.
I was classed as disabled and told that I would never be able to work again but I told them I was alright. One thing it has done for me is it has given me the time I truely needed to study.I dedicated my life to the study of Shamanism and I would never have gotten as far as I have without it happening.

I'm a writer--according to my manager, I'm about to be suddenly famous, with 6 novels going to one of two large publishers (I want Random House!!!) and a very pagan TV series being gone over by seven networks or production companies. Wish me luck--we need groceries around here, LOL! :elf:

I'm a warehouse troll, in that I try and hide in my dark little corner of the warehouse I work at. My actual job consists of processing returned cell phones and preparing them for an RMA to the service provider (we're a third party retailer). Kinda boring.
I also write (not as much as I used to, nor as much as wifey would like me to) fiction in my spare time. Some fantasy, some modern day stuff. I really should get off my lazy bum and work on it more.
