He's at the doctor right now with his dad. I'm here cleaning up the housework that he doesn't feel up to doing, hoping that will take a bit off his chest.

About two weeks ago he starts to feel generally crappy. His whole body ached and he kept getting horrible headaches.

Well, he got on some antibiotics. Started to feel better...

Then his throat started hurting pretty bad, got on a different set of antibiotics, felt only slightly better.

Went to a "clinic" at walgreens. Saw an RN (not a doctor, mind you) and was diagnosed with tonsillitis. From what I understand, they didn't do a strep test or anything, and that's what we thought it was.

Well they put him on ANOTHER set of antibiotics, and now he's worse than ever.

His tonsils are so swollen now he can't speak, and for that matter he can't eat. He has to even spit in a cup because he can't even swallow his own saliva it hurts so bad.

So, he's at an actual doctor's office today. Hopefully they will finally figure out what is actually wrong with him.

It worries me, not only for his safety, but the fact that we have been job hunting for several months now, and the first interview he's gotten since we've been here is on Wednesday, and we've already rescheduled it once due to this. It might be our only shot at getting a job for more months to come. There's a lot of pressure right now...

finally got a text from Z.

and yes, he DOES have strep. he's waiting at the pharmacy to pick up his scrips right now.

they've got him on steroids, pain killers, and transferred him back to the original antibiotic he was on. the one the RN at the clinic gave to him is solely for tonsillitis, which explains why it was getting better and then suddenly got worse.

well, i guess we will never go to a clinic at a walgreens anymore. ugh. i am so irked about this right now i wanna just choke someone. :bangyourh

well, happy thoughts. maybe now he will finally be getting better.

Oh man, strep does make a person feel awful. I've had it in the past and it's no fun at all. :(

I'm glad he found out what's wrong with him. I hope he gets better and is back to his normal self very soon!

:hugz: here's to hoping he feels better soon! Have him try gargling with warm salt water, that should help as well.

I hope he feels better soon! Definatly do the salt water gargle. And make sure he takes all of the antibiotics even when he starts to feel better (which should be soon now he's on the right med) because if he stops taking it the strep can come right back!!

I know...My husband and my son are prone to strep throat and My hubby NEVER finishes his antibiotics and i swear he turns right back around and gets it again

I just want to thank you all, and yes I am finally feeling better.
I'm so mad at the Walgreen's clinic, but just happy I'm finally starting to feel better and that I can resume my job search and do interviews coming up.
Once again, thank you all.

Tonsillitis and strep go hand in hand.. w/o a strep test the RN would not know. I get both yearly and have since I was 8.

It is a clinic- not a Dr. office.. what did you expect? They don't have the funds... most Wallgreens don't even have that program. None here do.

Gargle with some apple cider vinegar and warm water with a tea spoon of sea salt. It will help soothe.

Feel better Zauron!!

Bella stay well.. no smooching the sick boy no matter how cute:cutie:

While tonsilitis and strep often do go hand-in-hand, they don't look the same. Our doctor told us years ago what to look for with strep as my granddaughter has a long history of getting strep infections if the word is even mentioned (ha ha). With tonsilitis the tonsils are red and inflamed looking, often swollen. With strep you can see white spots on the red inflamed tonsils. Just use a flashlight to look at the tonsils. A swab test confirms it, but a visual check will usually show you whether the spots are there or not.

It is possible for strep infection to start in the throat and not affect the tonsils right away, in which case a swab is needed to check further back where it can't be seen by eye easily. That is probably what happened with Zauron. To complicate matters, a swab test may come back negative even though the person has a strep infection. It may only been in the front of the throat or in some place that the swab didn't reach.

I've gotten pretty good at telling whether my granddaughter has tonsilitis or a strep infection, but we do keep a close eye on her when she gets tonsilitis because it can be the precussor to a strep infection.
