View Full Version : Lesson: The Druidic Trines (Threes)

The number 3 is a magical number for the druids. we find it represented in many ways. examples;
Child,Mother and Father
Earth,Water and Air
Past,present and future
Birth,Life and Death
Earth,Sun and Moon
Etc,Etc and Etc. Heheheh :)
But nowhere is it more important than the triple aspect of
Body
Mind
Spirit
Most people see these as three separate entities. But,think on this,"Without one,the other two could not exist"[at least in humans]. Through integration or bringing together of these 3 aspects of the person, one can accomplish many things. A good example of how to accomplish this "melding of three to One" is through meditation. [I personally belive the church stole the techniques from the druids but,I'm biased!]
To be Continued....

In reference to..
Earth, Water, Air...
On my Path I hold strong associations and respect to the Elements. These Elements of four: Earth, Water, Air, FIRE.
Is there no reference to fire anywhere in the Druidic Path...or am I getting ahead of myself?

This is where we get into that grey area. Yes,they used the 4 element of Earth,Air,Fire and Water predominantly(sp)as the basis of their rituals but, belived in the trine of Earth,Water and Air.[Mind you this is all personal interpretation] The major problem is that individual tribes worshipped differently and therefore, the druidry of today is an amalgam of everything we have gleaned from historical sources.

So..is it possible to learn Druidry through books and through...like this medium...and in the end be able to call yourself a Druid?
Reason I ask is that I have heard that it takes 20 years as an apprentice before moving to the next level. Mind you, this is something just told to me...I know nothing about the practices of Druids. i am learning though.
I find it fascinating that a lot of the Druid Path coincedes with my Path.
Maybe a closet Druid here! Heh.

Is it possible to learn only through books? Absolutely! That,my dear site god,is exactly how I learned myself and suggest it be done(with guidance from a forum such as this WHEN it can be found!).
The 20 year apprentice program was stopped in about 60 AD. Heheheh:) The reason it took that long is they had to memorize everything. But we have books and the internet so[I feel]druidry is a state of mind and there is no "set" learning period.
Personally I became a druid in about 3 seconds! It was on waking from a vision in which I met my guide and he told me that it was time. I awoke knowing this is what I am with crystal certainty.
Peace,
Twig

Most all druids belive in the 4 major elements as the basis for ritual [see above]. I and other I know prefer this but any light you could shine on the other systems would be welcomed.

Once again, I must disagree. Most Druids that I've had contact with, most Druidic systems I've had contact with/read about/etc, follow the three-element system ~ the Earth, the Sky, the Spirit (or Water).

 Honestly? I think you can learn to cook from a book, but magic? A religion? YOu can learn "basics", probably, but not fundamentals and proper energy flow. Those can be learned only from another person.
Now, you can learn energy on your own, don't get me wrong; but different traditions/systems use energy in different ways ~ for example, there are different kinds of energy, and there are different ways/intensities in which it can be used ~ and you can't learn that/those from a book. My group, we've overcome the face2face "problem" by using the internet ~ and we use it often, for many different things.
Don't get me wrong. I knwo that there are a myriad of ways for doing something, but I don't think that you can get the true feel for something just by reading a book.

I learned to cook from my Mother. Unfortunately i have no one to teach me my Path. I did this on my own (and with my wife, of course.) And I can use and direct energy.

Right! And my tradition could not have been taught to me. Because it is mine. No one else follows it. Actually, let me re-phrase that...I was taught..by a being much higer than myself. Its name is ANKOAT and without it I could not have found My True Path.

Learned all on my own here. been all by my lonesome for almost 20 years now in a pretty secluded area...only me and my pc and the beautiful earth around me. everything I know I learned from books or from the internet. and im no spring chicken.

But you're talking about learning a personal path! Could you have learned your personal path from a book? No ~ you had to learn it on your own. Could you learn a specific Tradition or Pathway from a book? No, because each has its own, specific energies.

Point well taken. And I agree with you there. No one could learn my Path unless I taught them and really, even through my teaching they would probably NEVER grasp MY Path.

And here we hit upon the hardest part of my job. trying to give out information that's generic enough so that is relevent to all yet,be specific enough that it is valid info. (Sighs)
Which gives me an idea.....!
Peace,

Actually all points are proven then...the info you are giving is not Path specific...that is up to the individual. So keep forging ahead.
Progress. I like it.

Which is why, when I post something, I make it very clear (or try to) that I'm talking about MY Tradition, and not just, say, Paganism as a whole, or whatever. Causes less confusion that way. There are as many ways to do a thing as there are people, but when one of the people starts saying, "Blahblah does this", then it's the assumption that everything is and all are that way ~ when that's simply not the case. ;)

Hi Twig..a question please? Since I was very young I had dreams that came true in every particular. The Only dreams I remembered. but after I was in my middle teens allof the dreams were about things I could not control or change, except 1, & were always about crisis situations or death. At about 30 I started willing myself not to have these dreams, and I have been successful. Now however, I feel a loss. Is this in any way connected with druids & if not does anyone have any insite?
This may not be the appropiate place for this question. If not please let me know & I will post it elsewhere. For some reason I felt I should ask here.
