I couldn't answer this one so I asked someone who's been in the craft longer than I have been.
This is a quote from Mairwen who is also on this site.
"INTENT!! If one's intent was to cause harm, then that's the result he's going to get and if his personal ethics follow the three-fold-return then that's what he's going to get three times....but the three-fold-return in itself bounces to the sender not the reciever."
I think it makes sense it wouldn't hit those around you just you.

I don't think it would kill them unless you were trying to or made some kind of potion to go along with the spell that was poisonous.... but unless you are trying to kill them I don't think you will cause their death.

Greetings DISCOwitch! A fellow Oregonian! I live just outside Portland in Cedar Mills myself! The world just keeps getting smaller. 8O Contact me if you wish. :D
Ok,as to your question:
CAn the result of a spell..3 folds...kill some one you truely love...
Some people [myself included] maintain that the "Law of Three" is Druidic in origin. I call it one of the laws of intent, not unlike Yvonne. A lot of religions have a similar belief. Mainly that your intent is sent back to you "amplified". OR, you reap what you sow.
As to KILLING people. The only way a spell can kill is if the recipiant TRULY believes in the senders power. I use the example of Haitian and Creole voodoo. People HAVE died after being hexed by a Voodooo Priest[ess]. The cause is usually heart attack due to the persons belief that it WILL work. Other than that, the Gods take a dim view of casting evil. More times than not, karma catches up with the sender and although they don't die, they find bad luck starts to have a field day with them.
In short. The 3 Fold law works! It is a deterent and teaching tool to those who perform magick. A BASIC Law of Magick that helps keep us in check with our natural powers.
Does that help

The 3 fold law or the laws of Karma is about what YOU put out YOU will get in return. One persons 'karma' can't hit someone else. If you do a spell that goes wrong then you are the one that will have to deal with the consequences. Death, in my opinion, is highly unlikely a consequence of karma or the 3 fold law, as both principles can carry over to our next life if we haven't cleared them up in this one. Death isn't a punishment, it's merely a 'class dismissed' with a short recess before beginning our next lesson.
Did you read the other thread about "Karma stuff"?

I don't remember if I read this somewhere, or if someone told me this in a thread here....but I was told that whenever you do a spell you should always say something like this, just in case what you're trying to do has effects that you do not think of before you do the spell...
something along the lines of "may what I am doing be used for only good, and if my spell is not in the best interest and for the well being of all things involved may it not work" .... the way I worded it is not very pretty or poetic for your spellwork & rituals but at least I got my point across:) I always thought that was a very good idea....just in case there are things that can occur that you can't possibly think of before hand!!
