Just though I would add another element to the things that came to pass with the ceremony I had planned for the night of the 31st.
As you may recall I had originally planned to hold it outside but had the urging of Artemis and Bast to hold it instead at my home. Prior to and over the days that followed we had 3 ft of snow followed by an ice storm then another 6 - 8 inches of snow on top of all of that. While the ceremony went off with all the changes I still wondered about the change and the why of it. Well today I got that answer.
Me and my son went up to the top of the hill looking to see how easy it would be to get up there and get a few loads of wood. Now we walked up which was not such a good idea for even though there had been some melt the snow was still a good 6 - 8 inches deep beneath a deep ice crust. Since we couldn't get to the point we were going to we crossed the hill and went past the site where I would have done the ceremony.
As we got near it I noticed that at least 4 large Cedar tree's had toppled and the canopy of the tree had created large wind and snow breaks. These breaks were situated about the edge of the field or just above where I would have done my ceremony. Also about the Cedar tree's one could see where the deer have been coming down to bed as well as feeding off the low hanging Cedar branches. The deer tracks crisscrossing the area as they moved all about the area of the site to feed on the many trees and bed down in the snow and wind breaks that had been formed. Lets face it deer sign was everywhere with trails coming and going all about the area.
So if I had managed to go up there that night I would have had to push my way through all the snow that had fallen. But even worse would be that the deer would not have been using the snow and wind breaks for my scent would have been all around it. The many trees’ they have been feeding off of might not have been available to them again because of the scent of man, which would have hung about the area. Area's I would have cleared for the ceremony would have lost much of their ground floor covering and reduced the number of bedded places they could take refuge in beneath the tree's.
Perhaps some of the tree's that toppled would not have done so with the heat of the fire melting the snow from them which would have reduced the number of snow and wind breaks they had to use.
Are they still using them? Perhaps, perhaps not for during the day they would be out and about. Yet judging by the sign they left there have been a number of them scattered about the area that have been using them as the needle floors are all pushed flat and the lower branches stripped of any greenery that had been there.
Would my ceremony have affect / effected them? Who is to say for sure but the ladies Artemis and Bast must have though so to make me move the location.
