I am having a hard time differentiating between the two. Could someone explain in their own words? Maybe it'll click then :idea2:

pantheism is the belief that everything (everything=one type of stuff)*is* god (stuff *is* god).
i *think* dualistic pantheism has to do with the belief that there are two types of stuff. there is physical stuff and then there is spiritual stuff which=god.

panentheism is the belief that everything is *part* of god (stuff is *in* god).

“Facts about dualism: pantheism and panentheism, as discussed in pantheism: Monism, dualism, or pluralism (http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/441533/pantheism/38151/Monism-dualism-or-pluralism):

Philosophies are monistic if they show a strong sense of the unity of the world, dualistic if they stress its twoness, and pluralistic if they stress its manyness. Pantheism is typically monistic, finding in the world’s unity a sense of the divine, sometimes related to the mystical intuition of personal union with God; Classical Theism is dualistic in conceiving God as separated from the world...”

From the Encyclopedia Britannica.

There’s more here:

Monism-Dualism-or-Pluralism (http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/441533/pantheism/38151/Monism-dualism-or-pluralism)

For myself I am a monistic Pantheist. I believe God to be the universe.

A Panentheist would say that the universe is a part of God but not representative of the totality of God’s being.

Dual Pantheism is based on the notion that there are two types of substance from which the universe is built, one is physical, that is matter, and the other is mental or spiritual, for me this would be energy.

There is also some resources concerning different categories of Pantheism to be found here:

MisticWicks Resources Categories of Pantheism (http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=139886)

I hope that helps but please feel free to post with further questions if necessary.

P.S. Oonagh is an expert in the concise answer, as you can see! :uhhuhuh:

Thank you both very much, it makes more sense now.

I thought I believed more in panentheism, but now I'm thinking it is dual pantheism.

this is a great/helpful thread.

Tyger: I was wondering what you meant by energy or what you were referring to with that word. I had a feeling it was something along those lines which makes a lot more sense to me.

Oonagh: that was a good/helpful summary, I thought.

Mystic Zoe: good diagram -- I always find diagrams like that really helpful.

I think of energy in the same way in which a physicist would define it, that is as a thermodynamic quantity and one of the two elementary building blocks of the universe.

This is how naive I am, been a pantheist for 20 years and had no clue that there was a dualistic form...I mean for me the point of pantheism is that it's NOT dualistic, doesn't compartmentalize.

Ignorance is Bliss...

I would also like to add a "lol!" at this juncture :)

Tyger: I'll get back to that (what is energy) on the other thread with the world pantheist movement.
