View Full Version : Handfasting Postponed - Kind Of

Flar's Freyja

>sigh< Money is tight, and Flar and I would really like to be handfasted outdoors. The reason we chose Imbolc was because of its symbolism - the return of the light, new beginnings, etc.....and it is also a new moon. But even in Oklahoma, the weather in February can't be trusted. It might be 70 degrees but it might also be 20. So ~

We've decided to have a "private" ritual on February 3. Flar's parents are already planning to come, so it will just be us and a few close friends. There are so many people who love Flar and would really like to see this happen, so we plan to have a public ceremony around Beltane in May that everyone can attend. By that time, the weather will definitely be warm enough to have the handfasting outdoors.

I also thought that this would be a good way to have a purely pagan handfasting for the private ritual and a less blatant one at the second ritual for those who will be attending but don't know that I'm pagan.

((((Freyja))))
I'd say espically in Feb. the weather in OK. can't be trusted! ;)
But it's all understandable!
I wish you the two of you all the best for your private ritual.
((((Freyja & Flar))))
And of course happiness and good fortune as well.

Hey, maybe I can even make it on Beltane!:D

Very awesome idea. My Hine and I had thought kinda the same thing. A small ceremony on the beach, followed by a very cool party later.

Wishing both of you romance and love in your lives together :heartthro

Greta would we be flying out of Nashville - or is there an airport near you. (I actually have no idea.) That would be cool if we could go together.
OK Freyja - we need a date so that we can plan!
Beltane - actually - or what?
Inquiring minds want to know!

Sounds like we may have to build a besom runway

Well, you know ~ I gotta check the moon cycle and the planetary aspects first :T

Any astrological experts want to help? Beltane is May 1st and my birthday is May 2nd - when I was wishing that my birthday was actually on Beltane, a friend suggested that we could print "Freyja's birthday observed" under the May 1st date.....

We always have a magickal Beltane ritual with a huge Maypole in one of the city parks that overlooks the city each year - and last year another ritual was added. It would be so much fun to include that, but again, there will be a few invitees who are staunch Christians so I guess that wouldn't work :( They're really missing out on a lot of fun - at least one person starts weaving the wrong way, screwing the whole thing up, we laugh our butts off and the thing always looks perfect when we're finished.

I love the symbolism of Imbolc too, Freyja. In my opinion, Beltane is a time for making commitments. I think that May is a perfect time for a marriage, Freyja. There's no rush.

Freyja, the important thing is you & Flar love each other. No ceremony is going to change that.

Besides, May gives us all to plan that road trip....let's see, I start in NY, head to NJ, then PA, then WV....... :T

You can make it from NY in 24 hours if you don't stop and sleep  With everything we didn't sell in a U-haul and 3 kids and two cats, it took 3 days, but I only drove 8 hours and we stopped and swam in motel pools and slept.

Thanks, everyone. I already feel married to Flar in my heart but I feel that a ritual is important to celebrate that commitment - and that's actually in Marriage & Family textbooks

With my career being up in the air, trying to decide what to do about a job and Flar going to the hospital, I just haven't had enough time to devote to planning. If May gives everyone more time and we might actually get to see some of you - well - :boing:

I'm sure we'll take some pics at the Imbolc ritual!

Hmmm, someone needs to break out a webcam and show the whole thing on the web so those of us who can't be there can see you two happy people!!!
Hope everything goes acording to plan Frejya.

Webcam, webcam!!!

When the time is right, you'll do it. But as the others have said, in your hearts, you are already bound. :)

You know, we can always do one here! Sort of an online handfasting!!! (This way we can ALL make it!) :boing:

That is a great idea!

You'd have to set a date, and a time.
Mol could send invitations to all the members via e-mail.
Mol and Semele could officate. (If they have time....I understand the new baby and all.)
You'd pick your attendants.
We'd all log in to attend.

I'm actually thinking more along the lines of a traditional wedding as I have no idea how an actual handfasting goes - but you get the picture?

Webcam, webcam!!! Whoo-hooo! :D Great idea!

I'm very excited for both you and Flar. I know how money can be tight, so that can always throw a kink in things. But your love for eachother isn't going to fade anytime soon, so it's not like you have anything to rush for! ;)

A couple of friends of mine are having both a wedding ceremony in August and a handfasting in June or July. I say "more ceremonies, more fun!" :D

Much love and light to you both,
Wyrdsister

 I don't know about Mol, but knowing Semele, I'm sure she'd get a huge kick out of officiating! I guess we'd need the chat room to be functional.......

With the number of attendants I'd have to pick I'd be thanking the gods that we don't have to pay for dresses :T

Thanks, Wyrd, and everyone else for your support and blessings. I'm glad to hear from some of you that quite a few others have done this.

Now to tell Flar's parents.....if it ever stops snowing and I can get to his house :(

What means this officiating etc etc etc???? LOL!!! Of course!! Functional chat room you say?? No problem! I'm having an affair with a computer nerd er geek or whatever the correct term is these days.

Now, about this dress business...is this negotiable?!?!?!

Oh and for the public May thing...how about the 11th?? We could have it in our driveway in honor of the first kiss!!! ROFLMAO!!! First anniversary, first kiss, wedding day, Trey's birthday...see simplicity at its best..only one important day to remember!!

I've been off-line so long*, I feel completely out of the loop. These arrangements you've worked out sound perfect. I'm happy for you both. It's going to be so special. Mmmm, love is so yummy. I wish you a lifetime of it.

*I've been off-line because our hard drive died, I think. I know nada of computers, this is my husband's area. I just know that I haven't been able to sign on in so long, I was starting to jones for it. Hrmm. I'm back on so YEAH!*
