Heyas everyone, i was just wondering, after reading some things over that i had from years ago i came across treants and was wondering if they had ever tied in with druids, or had some mystical meaning, or any meaning at all to them, or if they gained knowledge from them in the otherworld, or if they even existed !
Thanks

I'm guessing this is in response to the Two Towers. I'm sure we were all amazed at THE AWESOME ENTS!!!!

But in Tolkien mythology, the ents are not trees. The are gardeners of the forests of MiddleEarth who, after millenia, began to look like the trees they cared for.

The only place I've ever seen the term "treants" is in Dungeons & Dragons - I understood they were a takeoff on ents (D&D was not allowed to use specifically Tolkein-created words after they attempted to claim exclusive rights the word "hobbit").

From the little mythology about thme Ive been able to gather, They seem to be in relation with druids to an extent... but mostly solitary, often in areas were there were dryads. I usually puts them together with the older forests, and the deeper parts of those at that. Theyre mentioned in french, englsih, scandinavian, veltic, and germanic mythology, but VERY rarely.

Thanks for bringing it up... I know ents are from tolkien and treants from D&D, but Tolkien used mythology for the basis of his books - in fact the 'elvish' language in the movies and the runes in his books are modified icelandic. Anyway, can someone shed more light on the mythology behind this? My sources are extremely limited.
