So lets share some of our favorite gifts as they come rolling in. I know some of us celebrate and exchange gifts at different times, like traditional 12 days or Christmas eve/day...so share when you can.
My favorite gift is the diamond earrings that my lovely husband got for me. 1/4 carat hoops in white gold...simply beautiful. I may find a pic later.
So share the goodies!!
My favorite gift to give is the new Magna-doodle for Trey, our son. He has an old one that he plays with every single day. We got him the newer kind with the colored markers. He is going to love it. It is an inexpensivegift that will bring many hours of enjoyment. Those are the best kind.

I love doing things for my mother this time of the year because the other 364 days, she does for me.
The year that we moved into this apt., I decided to surprise her a bit. While she loved her new room, she didn't have a tv in there. And since (occasionally) we like to watch different things...well you get the picture.
So, I went out and got her a tv and then called the cable company to come while she was at work to hook up an extention in her room.
HOWEVER, I waited 'til the guy left and then unhooked everything. On Christmas Day, I presented her with the TV and she was thrilled. But then, I gave her a bag that literally had the cable in it! I had taken the extention cable and wrapped it around the cable box and put it in a gift bag. I hooked it up for her and then paid for a full year of the added cable box charge (which they do here).
It was a bit tricky to pull off, but she loved it! :)

My gift was to have been my son coming home from overseas for about 2 weeks before his next assignment...overseas but somewhere else. Unfortunately....it is a no go. :wah2: My gift to him was to be quite a few of his favorite homecooked meals and warm hugs. Lots of work but really worth it....he likes my cookin. :)

What I got----- I don't know yet. (I'm certainly hoping it's this ankh necklace that I was eyeing at a craft fair way back in October....) :cutie:
To have given ---- I'll have to wait until it arrives...I don't want to spoil the surprise!

Spending Christmas with my mommy :p I'm usually somehow with my dad for Christmas, but turns out he went on vacation with my stepmonster, so now I get to actually spend Christmas day with my mom... we're cooking dinner tomorrow and baking cookies and stuff. :) I love my mom. Plus she knows just what to get you for Christmas. She hears you talk about something you want one day and somehow she knows that you want it so much more than you let on, and on Christmas morning... there it is. :)

So far - the very best are Flar, that he's still with me, especially after last week.......my sons - the older two live in NY but I talked to my ex yesterday and they're both doing very well......the youngest is here with me and he shines like the sun. He made straight A's his first semester in college, he bought me a washing machine when ours broke down and got me more presents anyway although I told him not to......and last night he wrote two beautiful poems for his girlfriend.......
And I bought myself a gift the other day - the cauldron I've been wanting for long time, which I found on the floor at a flea market when I was just about to leave. It has this extra pestle-type thingie that I've never seen before. The tag on it said that it was very old, and I'm not having much luck researching how old it actually may be. It was covered in rust and for all I know, someone may have left it out in the rain  Old or not, though, I got it for half the price that a new one that size and style sells for :)
It cleaned up very nicely, and my son and I mused that it may have belonged to a real witch - he's afraid it may have come with a spirit bonus..........;)

I haven't gotten my gifts yet, but my favorite gift I've given is a ginger-bread house that I made for my mom. It's falling apart, but she loves it when my sister or I make things for her. 8O

I've gotten a set of scrubs from my grandma & grandpa, but have to wait till tonight to open the rest (hoping for a Dale Earnhardt Jr. shirt I saw at K-Mart and I really really wanted, that and the Tori Amos-Scarlett's Walk CD) but my most favorite gift I'm giving will be to my step-dad and mom, for step-dad a Labrador Puppy calender and for my mom, a 365 day calender with dogs. (oh that and the present I got for Joker and Merob, but they might see this so I can't tell you yet)

We just opened presents. My mom and I had previously agreed to buy a camcorder (Digital 8) for us to share. I know I'll have a blast with it, especially since I'm becoming really really interested in this filmmaking thing like I do in my film class at school. :)

Every Christmas Eve we have a tradition where we open one present and one present only.
Mom was so excited to give me mine--apparantly she got it before Halloween!
It was a Hallmark Ornament (also tradition) of Mike & Sulley from Monsters Inc.
It's supposed to play a sound of some kind, but since I couldn't get the F@#%@^&@#$%! screw off that holds the battery case together, I will NEVER NEVER KNOW WHAT IT SAYS!
Well, I guess it's not the holidays without at least ONE thing going wrong, right??? :p

Have been opening presents with the family - I got everything I could imagine and then some.
The best thing I got really was my boyfriend getting safely back to the US after three weeks in Africa working - I've been worried. I haven't even mailed his Christmas box to him yet - but I bought a stuffed Stitch from "Lilo and Stitch" to add to it today, because he loves that movie (so do I).
Best stuff for me so far? Well, I got a beautiful leather coat trimmed in sheepskin with long fluffy mouflon wool from my parents, and my sister gave me a terrific thick woolen hat and scarf that look really 60s retro.

I'm still in shock....we just opened one present tonight, and the one that I got from my son is awesome. It's a sort of dream catcher, but instead of a web, it's a figure of a wolf's head and it's covered in fur. I collect wolves and he finds me the coolest stuff. Last year he gave me a beautiful wolf picture frame......and of course it now holds a picture of him and his two brothers :heartthro

Yay, prezzies are fun! My Love and I gave a lot of gifts together this year, rather than one from me and one from him. We don't make nearly as much as the rest of his family right now (something that bothers him a lot) so that was the best option! :D
I got My Love the limitted edition version of the movie "Bad Taste." He's a huge Peter Jackson fan (director of LotR), especially his really early stuff. My Love got me the soundtrack CD to the Buffy musical episode! It's going in my CD player with the volume cranked in a matter of minutes! ;)
My parents got me this beautiful Multifaith Calendar. It's got the holidays of world's major religions, and many of the not-so-major religions, in it. They've even included Wicca! (I think that was the selling point for my mom!) Take a look at the calendar here: http://www.amssa.org/calendar/ You can't see all the pictures, but this page tells you about the calendar and how to order it. I highly recommend it!!
My Love's mom got me the most gorgeous tea pot and cup set! It's a short, squat tea pot, white background with a blue floral design (I usually don't like floral motifs, but this one is very pretty) with 4 matching Chinese-style tea cups! They're wonderful! I told her she'd have to come over for tea sometime soon!
Christmas Day was wonderful for us. The best part was all the visiting. We were at My Love's mom's place in the morning and afternoon, then at his Dad and stepmom's place in the evening. Talk about stuffed! After 2 Christmas dinners I had no idea how I'd be able to fit behind the wheel of my car! LOL!
I hope everyone else has had a wonderful Yule/Solstice and everything else holiday! Much love to you all!

Wow, I love reading this thread and hearing about everyone's gifts they have given and recieved. I think the ability to come here and share these things with each other is a gift as well.
We had a nice quiet Christmas day at home. We cooked lunch on a little indoor grill that we got from Mol's dad as a gift...it works great! Trey had a great time opening presents for himself and his new baby sister. Trinity slept but I think she had a good time too!
I think Trey's favorite gift is the little army guys and dinosaurs he got...look out Freyja, now you know what you will be doing next time you come over!! I know Mol and his old high school buddy that stopped by sure were having a ggod time with the little army guys!

Well I really wanted a printer for Christmas and I got one. But it's be hard to pick a favorite gift. At the top of the list would be the waterglobe that my son got me. It has a dragon on it with a wizard. It's a music box and the crystals at the bottom of the globe light up and the globe has "clouds" inside it - Old Witch is that like yours? I've really wanted it for a while and I guess the reason is because this is the first year that my oldest has done his Christmas shopping by himself and using his own money. That carries a special meaning, plus it means his growing up.
I also received a cauldron and a tarot card bag - oh and a Scott Cunningham book I've been wanting for a while. All those things would be on my favorites list as well a a turquoise bracelet my Hubby gave me.
I guess the best gift from my Hubby actually came from my wanna-be-sis-in-law. She and my brother-in-law went to New Orleans. I did not know that Hubby had given them a list of gifts to pick up for me. A list that he had compiled from our trip down there. Apparently he had taken careful notes of things I had admired while we were there. She told me that they weren't able to go shopping but that Hubby had good intentions. That was pretty special.
Also on the list is the Witches Rosary that I received from a friend here at MW. I love them!
The gifts that I gave that I loved were:
the turtle shell bag I gave to my mama-in-law
the book on fairy's that I gave to my sis-in-law
but the most special would be the Yule gifts I got for my family....
I gave each of my sons a necklace with stones. The stones giving a special type energy relating to where each son is at this point in their life.
I gave Hubby a smokey quartz key ring to help his car keep running smoothly. He drives an hour and a half one way to work. He really apprecaited it.

Here, here! *lifts mug of cocoa to toast*
Mom really surprised the hell out of me this holiday. I told her not to go crazy and of course she did. Sometimes when she does that though, she gets me things that when I open them, I look at her as if to say, "what the hell is this?" LOL But this year, she out did herself.
I got a couple of rather large gift certificates for me to get new clothes (which I desperately need), a Wicked Witch of the West figure (I collect Wizard of Oz stuff), Beauty and the Beast special edition dvd, then the usual makeup and fun stocking stuffer stuff which I love to open. :)
The coolest thing was this marionette doll of Theordore Roosevelt in his Rough Riders attire. I had seen the thing on eBay months ago and had emailed her the link just to see it. (I'm a big Teddy Roosevelt person.) And when I went back to check on it, noticed that she had bid on it. That wasn't my intention of sending her the link, I just wanted her to see it. This thing is sooooo cool. Forget the marionette thing, I don't care about that. But it's so real, it's like having my own personal little Roosevelt!
Oh, and just when I thought she had done enough, then she says to me, "next week we are going out to get you a new computer chair." I couldn't believe it! Mine broke two weeks ago and I've been sitting on the ottoman trying to look up at the monitor. :T Since my laptop is still on the fritz, it's the only way for me to get online. She went away yesterday, so I brought her chair into my area. It's better than nothing. :D
Hers broke months ago so we are getting her one too! :D
All in all it was an amazing holiday. I'm still in such shock what she did for me. But I'm happy to say that she loved what I was able to get her. It was such a happy day and every time I think of it, I smile. :)

Okay..now that I finally got to see my parents, I can list my more material gifts.
I got alot of clothes, which was a gift in and of itsself. But there was a hidden gift in them.....I have lost weight, dropping two pants sizes! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I got flannell pajama's, which I absolutely adore. I was so happy. I love flannell pj's :) So comfy. And a big fluffy blue bathrobe, and slippers!
Some gift certificates to buy more clothes, or things for the house.
A nice set of mahogany picture frames.
Two silver chains, a gold chain, little dainty silver hoop earrings, and silver moon earings. Which I love.
A little wooden trinket box, with a gold sun emblazened on the top, which I thought was perfect as a Yule present :)
A set of "Feng Shui" element candles.
A very nice leather bound address book, which will soon become very important, since I will be starting up my tarot reading professionally again. So I'll need to copy down my contacts.
Two Harry Potter books "Goblet of Fire" and the "Sorcerers Stone".
Three pairs of silver and amber earrings. Two are dangly, the other is just little stud type earrings.
Stocking stuffers (candy, nylons, nail polishes, nail polish remover, mini hair spray, perfumes, lip glosses, etc)
Gardening Gloves, and Gardening tools.
High Heeled Black Shoes, which I really needed.
New Sneakers. And I think that is it :) I was pretty happy, as I really needed the clothes and shoes.
I was able to buy my parents some Christmas Gifts, too, which was important to me, since I enjoy giving much better than receiving. I got my parents a set of bath towels, wash clothes, hand towels...because they needed new ones badly. LOL. A really nice chrystal hurricane lamp, a really nice glass picture frame with engraved flowers on it. Inside of it, I put the song lyrics to a song my mother used to sing to me when I was a little child, with this years date on it. And for my dad, a really cool multitool handtool. Hard to describe, but it's kinda like a mega swiss army knife, only with a set of pliers on it..etc. John has one, and loves it. He carries it with him everywhere, since it comes in so handy. So I bought one for my dad too. I baked some cookies for them, too. For my sister, a really nice handpainted jewelery box, with six drawers and cabinets on it. In the drawers of it, I put some cosmetic things, such as nail polishes, lip glosses, etc. And I also put a hair band in it, that was perfect, because she has a formal dress that she needs to wear for choir, it is black, with little gold dots on the gauzy sleeves. So..I got her a hair elastic thing, with a really nice gold heart on it, which will be perfect to wear with the dress. I also got her a really nice set of chrystal perfume bottles. And have promised her that when I get more money, I'll take her to the Body Shoppe, to select some perfume oils to put inside them. And a Winnie the Pooh Christmas ornament. For John, I bought him what he needed most. Some Thermal Socks, a nice warm fleece, and something else which he wanted. A new Chessboard. This one is very fancy....it's etched glass, and one set of pieces is clear, the other frosted glass. It's pretty cool. :)

Congrats on the weight loss, Danustouch! Over the holidays, too. Wow! Tell us how you did it. I hope it wasn't stress.
We had a pretty low-key Christmas this year. Family problems from before Thanksgiving left me not giving a flying Wallenda about it. I love making decorations, and usually go overboard with them, but not this year. I'm on the mend now, and a couple of days before Christmas, we ordered a new computer since the old one's on its last legs. It just arrived!
I got a new sewing machine, too, one that makes some decorative stitches. Never had one that did that before. Lots to play with.
Gave hubby lots of fishing stuff. (Well, actually "permission to buy" from BassProShop.) Now we're looking for a new warm jacket for him, to replace the one he spilled battery acid on the sleeve of. Gonna have to hurry though, because here in Cali, stores get rid of warm coats right after Christmas, and by January, the swimsuits are in the stores. Grrr. Contrary to popular belief, it does rain and get cold enough for warm coats in California. :D

Forgot to tell you all about the Air Hockey table santa got us. Trey can already beat me most of the time and I wont play with Mol anymore...he is too mean!
Sounds like you got some great things Danus. I am happy for you! I was going to get mol a new chess set but I was afraid he would make me play with him!!! LOL!!!
Danustouch
December 30th, 2002, 08:54 PM
hah! Actually...I got John the chessboard KNOWING he would ask me to play. He'd given his to his nephew a while back, and had been looking at others. But...the main reason I got it, was because besides a deck of cards, a deck of uno cards, and a monopoly game, John and I really have nothing to do together evenings. We don't have cable, and he's too tired for "projects", so usually it winds up that he's on the computer, and I'm sitting in the office painting my nails, or reading a book near him. Quite a boring life. So..even though I myself have absolutely NO desire to learn to play chess..I wanted him to teach me, so that we could have another "Thing to do" together. He was very touched by that, and said that it was the very best present he'd ever gotten.
Personally, I think he just wants to play with me so he can have an easy victory ;)
Oh...as for the best gift I gave this year..I think it was the printed up song lyrics to the song my mother used to sing me as a child. When I gave it to her, she almost started crying. We used to have a recording of she and I singing it together when I was just about three or four years old, but it's since been lost. She'd forgotten the lyrics, and so had I. I wanted to sing it to my daughter when I have one, so it was an important find. Printing it up and framing it was a sort of "Last minute" idea...and it wound up being the best present of all.
The wierd thing is..that there is a lot of hidden symbolism in the simple childrens christmas song. My mother, like all mothers, worries constantly about me. Especially these days. And I don't get home often. Her ultimate desire, is for me to move back to CT. So that she can "keep an eye" on me. So the lyrics are really, very oddly ironic. And touching. Here they are. (it's an author unknown, public domain.)
************************************
ARE MY EARS ON STRAIGHT:
I'm a little doll who was dropped and broken
Falling off my mommy's knee
I'm a little doll who has just been mended
Now won't you tell me please.
Are My Ears On Straight, Is my nose in place
Have I got a cute expression on my face?
Are my blue eyes bright, Do I look all right?
To be taken home Christmas Day?
When I first came here, Just a month ago.
Brought in by a little girl who loved my so.
She began to cry, 'Til they told her I
Could be taken home Christmas Day.
Christmas Eve is drawing nearer, And I'm getting scared
Wish I could see in a mirror, How I've been repaired.
I'll be called for soon, But I'm worried so
Will she love me like she did a month ago.
Are My Ears On Straight? I can hardly wait.
To be taken home Christmas Day

My hubby is a bad shopper. He absolutely hates it. So every year, we would write up a few things we would like. I'm really difficult to buy for. Things that I really want, I either buy for myself or it's hard to get.
Anyway, I didn't get a single thing on my list (which is ok since the list was for my hubby's benefit) but I was soooo happy with what I got. I got a Dremel set!!!! I've always wanted one but never thought to put that on my list as it's a bit pricey. :D So I was so surprised & happy when I opened that. Now I have to go find something to carve! :D
And I got a new tarot deck. Well, it's not really a tarot deck but the Fortune Teller's Deck. I saw this before & really liked it but it wasn't on my list. Actually, the weird thing is that I had listed two different decks...I had debated about putting this one down but didn't. What's weird about it is that you have to know my hubby. He pays attention to my preferences in tarot cards like some guys pay attention to their socks..."yes dear". I don't think I'd ever mentioned this deck to him. I love it & I'm so glad I got this one instead of any of the others.
I think the best present wasn't the stuff I got. It was that my hubby thought about me & got me something that wasn't written on the list. Did that make sense? :D

Yep..sure does Wild :) It's always nice to be pleasantly surprised :) Last year, John did the same thing. I'd written out a short list for him..things like bathoils, and cd's, and books that I wanted. And what he got me was so much better, the pentacle for my altar that I have now, a new chalice, an awesome hanging brass incense burner, three beautiful pillar candle holders, candles, incense, etc. I was SO surprised. And happy :)
Oh...someone asked me how I've been losing this weight. Truth is..I have NO clue. I really haven't been doing anything too differen't. If anything, I'd say maybe I'm staying away from carbs, and eating more protein. I still EAT carbs, but not as much, usually, i have a larger protein portion than carb portion at every meal.
Plus, at one point, I was only eating once a day, which is not good, because my metabolism never got up enough to burn anything I ate. So...I started eating breakfast every day too. I've never really eaten three meals a day, nor do I usually eat a big portion. And I don't usually have any junkfood in the house, either. For me, my weightgain was more because I was eating alot of carbs (john is a carb addict. Pasta, Breads, etc)and not excercising. I think i'm a little more active these days, conscious of how many carbs I take in, and it seems to be doing the trick :)
