View Full Version : Protection spell?

Hello everyone - I wasn't sure whether to post this in New Pagans or here, so I hope I'm putting this in the right spot.

So far in my path I haven't done any spellwork. I've been reading, reading, reading .... trying to figure out what makes sense to me and where I can fit myself in with all the new "stuff" I'm learning. But I think I'm ready now to do a simple spell for protection.

My husband and I are bikers and we love to ride our Harley in the spring and summer. We do some fairly long trips on it. I put a "Biker's Guardian Angel Pin" in his Christmas stocking this year and the thought came to me very strongly that I should put a protection spell on it. He's going to wear it on his leather jacket that he wears when he rides. He's perfectly ok with this idea, by the way.

I've been looking at my correspondence tables, but I'm starting to confuse myself. I really wanna make sure this is right. Can anyone offer me any advice about how to do this? A Wiccan friend of mine is going to help me, but she's leaving the correspondences up to me. Also, I'd like to cleanse the pin first - is salt water ok to do this with? Please forgive if my questions seem very basic - it's just that this is my hubby we're talking about and I want to do this right!!

 Welcome, Sunbear. There are tons of threads about protective magick in this forum alone. Here's the link to what came up in search:

http://www.mysticwicks.com/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=54995&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending

There are five pages of related threads!

In the stuck thread at the top of this forum, there is a thread on magickal correspondences and substitutions. Keep in mind that you never have to follow these word for word - if a certain herb or oil speaks your intent to you, it's okay to use it even if that's not the purpose listed in the books. There really isn't a whole lot of "right and wrong" when your intent is appropriate and you have put energy into the item or working.

As for items like pins and talismans, I frequently charge them by simply putting intent into them and leaving them on my altar until I'm ready to give them to the person they're intended for.

It would help to know what is confusing you - what do you need help with, what are you confused about?

Yes, salt water will work. You could also bury it, or leave it in sunlight or moonlight, or smudge it with incense, or some mixture of all. Use whatever way you like, they'll all work about the same.

for the replies and advice. When I said I was confusing myself, I guess what I meant was that since I hadn't tried this before, I was having "information overload" and was so concerned about getting it "right" that I wasn't able to pick out what correspondences would work for me. Everyone keeps saying to do what feels right to you, but how do I know what feels right if I haven't tried anything yet?! I guess this is a case where inexperience really shows!!

Anyway, thanks again for the advice. I looked at the search thread you showed me - there were tons. I didn't really find anything to answer my particular question, tho, about a protection spell for a charm, tho there were lots of ideas for similar things. Truthfully, I hadn't thought about doing a search before asking my question - I'll do that next time.

BB everyone.

That's okay - it would be hard to find an answer in five pages of threads even if it was there

Anyway.....I can understand your information overload feeling and again, there really isn't much right and wrong here. That's what I love about our craft - we can use whatever is lying around and adjust things to fit our personal needs - in fact, workings that you personalize are the ones that have the most energy and are the most effective.

You may find something in the stuck Practical Rune Magick thread. I know that Rick has a protection charm in there somewhere but I don't know which one it is.

My suggestion is just listen to your heart, and what you feel is the "right" way..

In my belief, our hearts carry the wisdom of ages.. all we need to do is just listen to them and understand their "words". But still, try getting the knowledge from the books, as well, because it'll help you understand your own self..
