Kay, I wasn't sure how else to put it, but sometimes when I meditate I focus INWARDS and kind of walk around in my soul to see what's there. I was wondering if anybody else does this and what kinds of things do they see?
For me, I have a dark forest in the depths of my heart. It's very peaceful and safe. I go there whenever I'm feeling lost or insecure...
If I'm feeling particularly adventurous, I go to the darker parts of myself which are, well, utterly black. The only real landmark in that part is a lamp post and a mini couch that I put in there to keep my child-self feeling safe if she gets lost in that area.
There are a few other places I've discovered, but that's good enough to start with for now. How about you guys? :cutie:

I walk into my forest to get in a trance. Looks similar like yours. I love how you describe it.

Interesting! What kinds of words do you see, if you don't mind me asking? :cutie:

Cool! And thank you. :) I've always loved forests ever since I was a child - they're so quiet and peaceful.

That is where I choose to go, most of the time. Mine is a breezy, open field of knee-high grasses. I love it and as self-absorbed as it seems, I spend most of my time there.
Occasionally, like a film on a lens, one color will shade over the field, but I never see words.

That sounds really nice! :) I also spend a lot of time in myself. It's interesting learning more about myself haha.
What do you think those colours mean?

I think it corresponds to my mood.
Anxiety and Stress tends to be my most common, but I guess that makes sense. I tend to seek out more time to meditate when I'm anxious or stressed.
I force myself to focus on what the colors of the field SHOULD look like and it helps. I've been trying to create a mental altar. But I get very distracted while forming it. I should probably be more consistent in meditating first so that I don't go all ADD on myself. lol..

I do this when I need to work through personal issues.
There are a few set places I go to, a beach with a cave for example. Sometimes I talk to people too, who are most likely representations of my subconscious.
I find it very helpful. :)

I'm much the same - I often meditate when I need to calm down, though I've never experienced my emotions as a colour filter. Very interesting. :)
Heh, I tried creating a "home base" of sorts for myself but I kept forgetting about it until recently and it was sort of in disrepair. It looked like a mostly-unfurnished apartment and a little sad. I'll clean it out at some point and relocate anything I might need from it into somewhere in my forest, which is where I usually end up going. :D

Very interesting! :) I most often talk with someone I call "Little Lexi", who is pretty much just a younger version of myself. [Though as of late, I've been wondering if she's a spirit guide in disguise. :cutie:]
What are these people like, if you don't mind me asking? I rarely see anyone aside from Little Lexi when I meditate.

There's a book I read, Brain Wave Mastery (or something like that, cant remember) that (besides accessing certain brainwaves) talks about different point of focus, in you meditation; like a certain point within you, generally within you (an "area" or awareness-like focus) and also points and areas around out outside of you. The they go on to talk about using two focal pints at a time.
It's really a useful book!!!

When I'm not doing my normal practices I like to do exactly what you described!
Inside I typically see my guru in a peaceful environemnt, sometimes floating above the ocean, often in a foresty type setting, even in the mountains! He'll bless me or give me teachings, it's really wonderful!
After a particularly powerful session of tantra I'll look inwards and meet the primordial Buddha Samantabhadra (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samantabhadra). At first I'm afraid but that quickly turns into a pure, nearly nirvana like state.

I'm not sure if these are "mental landscapes" or manifestations of my inner self or anything, but I have a couple places that feel like home to me, that I feel like I know so well. One is a beautiful meadow ringed with a dark forest and dotted with huge oak trees and clearings. It is always dusk or just after dusk in this meadow, and I usually find myself under a particular oak tree. It's calm and comfortable but also quite haunting in a way. There are many mushrooms here, and owls, and sometimes does. I swear there are fauns hiding in the shadows, too.
The next is a sunny, pebbly beach with beautiful sky-blue waves lapping the shores. Wildflowers and lilies grow on the shore, and out into the sea there are rocks that look like perfect perching places for mermaids or sirens or nymphs. There are pearls and shells always washing up on the sandy pebbles.
Sometimes I explore these places or think of them when I need strength or I need to center myself when overwhelmed in public.

I discovered my inner landscape while doing a meditation to invite advice on anything and everything. I was told that this particular meditation would happen in a jungle and the animals that would come forth would be overwhelming....
I entered a desert, empty of everything, but me. I settled and waited and Doe came to me, unsure about me. I left and tried again an other day. I went back and found Doe waiting for me and instead of a desert there was a very sparse forest with only a single kind of tree. I followed her for long distances, until she became skitish and bounded away, leaving me in the company of Panther. This is when I realized that they were connected to each of the four elements.
Again, I spent time with Panther, then left. On my next return I met Panther and the forest had filled out, comfortable as a forest of my homeland. Panther led my through the forest to a deep pond near a path, then left. Here, I found Otter. Again, I spent time with Otter, left and then returned.
When again I entered, Otter met me and there were streams through the forest and Otter led me to Bear who would not leave her cave.
My inner landscape is a forest full of water and nooks and cranies. There are cliffs, though I have never gone to their edges. Whenever I go in, I stand at the door to my tower, it waits to be filled up. Only the first room is filled, each floor is a single room. From here I can go everywhere. I have found gates and gone seeking things of great import in the depths, from one such trip my forest gained a wolf pack.
I think inner landscapes are as broad as the real thing, for in a way, they are real. They represent our experience of the world and ourselves. We can learn so much just by wandering through them, but sometimes even more by having a goal in mind and going seeking.

Forests seem to be a common theme! I don't really consider my places a part of my inner landscape (I really like that term for it! :toofless: ), but I do have two places that I like to visit.
The first is a waterfall in the middle of a forest. I like to sit right by the river as it falls over the side and feel the water droplets hit my face. There are lots of animals that roam the area. Squirrels, foxes and wolves seem to be the most common. It's always about to rain, so the air always has an electric tang. It's lovely!
The other is an actual place that I visited. It's a lake on Mt. Evans in Colorado. It's pretty small and secluded, but very beautiful. The water is crystal clear and I like to sit on a big rock that protrudes a few feet from shore. It's the most peaceful place I've ever been!
I'm going to have to see if I really do have an inner landscape!

Mmmmm, Well I am the uber-odd ball out here on this one. My main, uber happy, most contented, deepest mediation place takes me to a ballet studio. Part is my absolute :hearthear for ballet.
Its a really quiet place with huge windows that go from the floor to ceiling with sheer, white curtains over them that always seem to flutter softly so maybe the windows are open. There are several large ferns in white pots that sit on a light wood floor. The mirrors on the wall go around on 2 walls from floor to ceiling and opposite the huge windows are one set of mirrors and to the left. The wall on the right has a full length barre. There are a couple scattered boxes and racks that are full of the most beautiful costumes and tu-tus ever. It's the place that I am the most happy. Sometimes people are there but they are more like... talking ghost or spirits (Think Harry Potter-ish) and they sort of drift in and give info in riddles or in dance terms that I seem to be able to work out as I am in the studio.
My other spot when I need to do a "quickie" mediation is on a beach, that has white sand, a light house, a couple sea gulls (which is funny considering I really don't care for birds!!) and tall, wishpy grass. Its actually very New England-y to me which is odd again since I am from the Great Lakes region.
So there are my two.

Wow, this one seems to have a lot of Druidic-like symbology. . . . it's beautiful!! :uhhuhuh:

When I walk into my head I see an open field with heather, long grass and granite outcroppings. At the center is always a tiny cottage, which I walk to and unlock. Once I enter, I can visit any number of rooms. One of my favorite mental exercises is to "clean the library."
I pull the dust covers from the furniture, open curtains, clean from top to bottom chasing out the cobwebs so to speak. It has taken on a life of it's own over the years, if I wait too long between cleanings I come back and the dust covers are back on the furniture and the place is pretty much a crap hole. If I do it every day there's almost no dust, all I have to do is open the curtains and water the plants.

Nice, that sounds like great visualizations for accessing certain brainwaves (can't remember which), keep up the cleaning!
