More on that nutjob in New Mexico who claimed she was celebrating "Beltane" (in March) and stabbed her victim in "self defense" with her "Wiccan dagger".

Wow. Just wow.

That's a whole lot of crazy.

~sighs~ Some people shouldn't be allowed out in public (which can include many who are related to me)....or open their mouths.

But I do hope that the police there are a lot smarter than the ones where I live....well, at least the county ones.

Hm, it doesn't say in the article. I wonder if she was nutters and just happened to be Wiccan. Or if she was nutters and used Wicca as a sort of ploy or reasoning for a "sacrifice." Sort of like someone that's wacko already and wanting to kill, using Satanism as a means and justification for their crimes.

Weird, though. Her story obviously has a lot of holes in it.

The word on the street is that witches are an easy date on Beltane.

Okay she's a box of nutty charms, but what struck me as a bit cool is the article itself. They really are getting better and better, and this one is a great example of the objectivity in the writing. Fifteen years ago this article would have been entirely different and may well have sparked a sh*tstorm of malice in the area.

I love that the education efforts have really started to take hold in some areas and that things like this article are becoming more common.

The moral of this story is: don't sacrifice people. And if you DO sacrifice people, don't include their phone numbers in your contacts list with the annotation "sacrifice." Think WWCLD (What Would Christopher Lee Do?)

Seriously, I am glad that journalists have at least taken the time to interview a couple of Wiccans who have made it clear that this woman's practices have nothing to do with Wicca or Neopaganism. A few years ago they wouldn't have bothered, or they would have found the loudest nutjob available to provide comic relief for a "Human Interest" angle.

I've been sort of following this on Witchvox, and the local Pagan community was smart and came forward with polite education and as soon as the story broke.
