My Aunt

Hey Everyone....As you all may or may not now, my aunt mary ellen is dying from cancer...she was diagnosed about a year ago and now the doctors are giving her about a month...latest news to my family is that she now has 3 tumors near her spine...she is in surgery as i type this...if the surgery is unsucessful she will be paralized for the remainder of her life...I am writing this to ask for you all to pray (or do whatever it is you do) for her...just ask this surgery goes well...thanks everyone...

ohhh cancer is a horrible thing. It runs in both sides of my family and all my aunts on my moms side have had it, my mom and my dad, my grandmas and my great grandma. Cancer isn't fair. I hope we can find a cure soon!

This sounds like the cancer my mother had and I remember how painful it was for her, and how painful it was to see her that way. If you ever want/need to vent, just PM me.

Thanks Everyone surgery turned out well....they are gonna try radiation on the tiny little bit of tumor that is left...i dont think its gonna prolong her life...and she has to spend the next 3 weeks in the hospital...*sigh*....but at least she will be more comfortable...and i miss you all too...im gonna try to be around more often...life has just been...well...time consuming to say the least....love you all and thanks again!

Here's the latest e-mail i recieved from my aunt carol about my aunt mary ellen

today she was moved from the hospital to a re-hab (if you can call it that)..nursing home with 7 rooms set aside for rehab patients...its only a formality and she has to stay there 3 days ..she can go home on tuesday..i doubt that she will be able to walk. she still has catheter in and they took it out for 2 days but she couldnt go to the bathroom on her own. dominic is getting a hospital bed for their living room and hospice will start coming in to help..naturally, i will be staying there and maybe taking sundays off..hopefully kippy, michael and thomas can take turns on weekends every now and then to give dominic and i break...actually all dominic has to do is go to the stores and cook...i can take care of mary el..she is not herself..we did find out that radiation has affected her brain...mood swings, forgetfulness, etc...she can get real nasty about things and the next minute she will talking normal and forget what she had just said...the drugs also add to her confusion...after we get her settled in we will get in touch with the close family members who want to have a quick visit with her..we will have to ask her ahead of time because she has said "ca, i dont want anyone to see me like this, i hate seeing the pity on their face"...so please dont get insulted if she doesnt want to see you..nothing personal...female vanity still at work...also if any of you have been really sick you know you didnt want to "entertain" anyone...she is funny cause she kept me at bay for the past few months..we just talked on the phone...and then i "got it" one day..i said you want my company without my body being in your house, dont you...she laughed and said yes...because if i was there she would feel compelled to clean and make lunch, coffee, etc..so thats the latest..dominic has a computer and aol...so i can access my mail from their house...i will be "moving in" on monday and going to rehab to escort her home..i would like to hear from you all....cause when she takes naps i will get bored..unless dr phil and oprah can entertain me...she said she feels at peace with herself since she has made her decision not to fight it anymore...and she said she feels calmer...say your prayers for her and others fighting similar battles...thanks and love, carol (ann). My family is sick and twisted....this is how we are dealing with my aunt being sick.....my mom calls to talk to my aunt carol who is staying with my aunt mary ellen to see how thing are going over there....my aunt mary ellen yells "I dont wanna talk to anyone...tell them im dead" and what do we do...we laugh...then my mom says "who said I called to talk to you anyway?" to which aunt mary ellen replies"oh" then my aunt carol tells my aunt mary ellen that my mom said to go to hell....yet again what do we do...we laugh

Unfortunatelly, we didn't have the choice to choose them..

And, the best way to deal with it, as you said, is to laugh.. :rolleyes:

Warm hugs dear.... and remember.... sometimes, in some families swearing is the same as saying I love you. Sad, but my family said stupid stuff like that when people were sick for fear of breaking down and crying. And rather than upset everyone, they would say stupid things similar to your quotes. *Sigh* Fortunately we don't have to be as bad... you can call and say this makes me sad and I love you.
