I haven't been around in awhile, but to me there is no better place for answers than MW. :hahugh: Hope this is in the right place. I had an experience, two actually, a few days ago. It's been nagging at me hard and everything inside tells me I have to know what it means!

I know the symbolism and meaning of a few animals, and next to none about birds. About 4 days ago as I was writing an article, I heard a bird chirping loudly outside. It sounded very close and wouldn't be ignored. I listened for a minute or two, then remembered my two cats were in the courtyard. They're mostly Maine Coon and I didn't want a birdy death on my hands if I could stop it.

I look out the sliding glass door and sitting on top of the fence around the courtyard is a cardinal! A bright red, absolutely beautiful cardinal. I haven't seen one in a very long time, at least 10 years and most likely much longer than that. I couldn't stop smiling the rest of the day. That bird sat there and sang to me for a full minute or minute and a half at least before flying away.

The next day, or the day after, I hear another bird outside. I jumped up right away to see if the cardinal had come back, but to my surprise it was a crow. It was beautiful, the feathers shining blue as the sun hit his body. He sat on the fence chirping and eating a french fry he snagged from the nearby McD's. lol A couple of minutes went by with him chirping, eating, chirping and eating before he picked up what was left of his french fry and flew off.

As soon as I saw the crow I knew the appearance of these birds so close together meant something. That's where I'm hoping you can help. I feel as if I'm going to miss something vital if I don't figure it out very soon. I never ignore the feelings I get....well, unless I know they're coming from another person nearby. lol So, the floor is now open. I'll know what it means when I read it. :hahugh: Thanks in advance for helping me to figure it out.

Okay a few things.

First, what leads you to believe that this wasn't just a case of birds being birds? After all, it's spring and birds are setting out territories, and songs are basically pretty ways of saying "STAY OUT!". But you said there was a feeling about them--can you say more about that?

Second, I would suggest talking to the totems Cardinal and American Crow themselves to find out directly what (if anything) these appearances meant to you, personally. Stereotyped, rote "meanings" have little value IMO/IME.

Do not know about the redbird? But the old saying is: One crow for news, Two crows for mirth, Three crows a wedding & Four crows a birth!
