View Full Version : Clergy or others: Do you think this is a sign? What meaning?

Hi all.

Don't really know what is the best forum here to post this, so mods, if you think this post belongs elsewhere, please move it.

I used to use candles when praying long ago. Well maybe not SO long ago. A while ago. Anyway, I had been using a lamp when praying at the altar in my home, and have recently restarted (3 days ago) using candles again when praying, dedicating the flame to God.

I pray multiple times per day, often in different areas, but always at least once per day at the altar in my home, if I can. Once yesterday at the altar, I finished praying and about 30 seconds later the candle went out of it's own accord, while I was staring at the flame, and about to get up from my kneeling position. No, it didn't burn out. Nor did I blow it out accidentally. It is inside a tall glass candle holder, and the only way to blow it out is to blow directly down into it with a hard puff, and I was a little ways in front of the altar, not above it.

Once today at the altar, I finished praying and within 2 seconds the candle flame went out. A couple seconds later, the glow from the wick stopped, like someone had pinched it, which would be nearly impossible to do for a human because of the shape of the candle holder. But God's not human. I am spiritual, and the spirit of God is very much inside my home, and her (yes I wrote 'her') presence is very concentrated around the altar. No dark presences within the house, that I am aware of. Outside is another thing. (One of my neighbours routinely brings back dark presences when she comes home from who knows where after weeks away, which is why my home and yard get routinely warded. But that's a fairly long story and would be too much info for this post.) Anyway, I used to think that I was quite spiritual, but I have become so much more so in the past several months, and God has indeed manifested herself in many ways in my life recently. I hope that God's touch within my life at the moment is just the tip of the iceberg.

Anyway, what do any of you think about this? Is this candle flame thing a sign? I'm thinking it is a reminder to me from God that she is here, and to not be afraid because she is watching out for me, like the powerful and loving mother that she is. I feel so at peace when praying at the altar, so I have a very strong feeling this is the work of God. I know that there are angels or spirits of the Light, or whatever you want to call them outside guarding my home and occasionally inside, and I thank God for them every day. They make themselves known. Usually, I can just walk outside my home, close my eyes, wait a bit, and I can sense one come up beside me. It is good. Maybe the candle thing is the work of one of them?

Anyway, I am fairly new here, so I hope you don't think I'm trolling, as this may sound weird to some people, but if any clergy or spiritualist or anyone wants to comment, I would like to know what others think.

Im not clrgy per say, but I think it is a sign, a way for your goddess to say "I'm here and listening". But going farther than that I dunno what to think. I'd personally suggest asking the goddess herself what it means. If it means anything more than "hi there" she'll let you know.

I'm not a clergy or anything but i'v heard when a candle goes out your prayer is answered.

There are numerous mundane reasons why a candle may have gone out.

I am not one that finds signs in everything - but if you have to ask if it's a sign, it probably isn't. You would know if you were being reached on a spiritual level - you wouldn't need to ask in the first place.

That's my 2 cents.

Did the candle make a "fizzle" noise as it extinguished itself?
Terrible as it sounds - was it a cheap candle?

If yes to either of these or both - there could be moisture in the wick.
The wax seals the moisture and it extinguishes itself as the moisture is exposed.

That aside, if it is a gesture from your godess, I hope it brings you comfort and great joy at her presence.

Occam's Razor: the simplest answer is the most likely. In this case, probably something to do with the physical properties of the candle itself.

especially in tall thin jar candles it's easy for air issues to happen as they burn down, but given the timing... who knows.
