Sorry if this is in the wrong section, it's only my second post on the forum. _inabox_
Anyway...I've been really interested in learning how to use a pendulum lately for some basic yes/no questions, and I wonder what the best way of going about selecting one would be?
I know that different stones are supposed to have certain 'powers' - would this affect the outcome at all? Rose quartz vs Moonstone, for instance? Or are pendulums just chosen based on looks since it's not really 'magic'?
I don't know, I'm all confused. :)
Help on this matter is most appreciated.

The attributes of the stone are certainly going to effect your outcome. I use different stones for different things. Quartz is probably the best as far as it goes for overall best, imo, but its also a highly personal thing too..what are you drawn to etc.

Well, to be honest I've been really drawn to the rose quartz. I keep playing with this one in a store I frequent [and it seems to like me better than the others] but I'm not sure really what I'm getting into so I always end up putting it back. Part of my whole...new age anxiety complex, I guess. I want to learn, I do. But I'm so scared of mucking up because I have no idea what I'm doing that I usually just play it safe and stay out of it altogether =^_^=
Is there a general link to common crystals/stones and their properties? maybe I can research a bit and discover what characteristics I feel will aid me best.

When I picked mine, it was really random. I'd been looking for one for quite awhile at that point when I walked in to the local shop and, there it was. They had just, literally, just, unpacked it and hung it. I saw it and that as it, I KNEW it was for me. I suppose that that's one way to do it... just keep looking until one jumps out at you.
A couple years later, and I still don't know what the stone is....

I've always found wood pendulums to be the best. But that's simply my preference.
I think, most of the time the pendulum will choose you.

I have not used pendulums much as cards are more my "thing", I do however use crystals and gemstones for various purposes. I can't quite explain why it happens but for some reason if I need to use a gemstone, I just "know" which one to grab. It's almost like the gemstone is saying "pick me, I'm the one you need right now". I suppose that is a weird way of putting it.
For me I find that it's best to go with your "gut feeling". So if Rose Quartz is the one you feel drawn to, than you should go with that one first. Later you may feel more drawn to a different stone and that's okay.
I bought a silver pendulum a few months ago, because every one was giving it good reviews on Amazon, but personal I have not had good results with it. Why? I don't know. Several people had reviewed it and said how it was so much better than crystal ones and gave them the best results ever, so I figured I'd try it, but it just seems to hang there doing nothing.
On the other hand, my first pendulum was a cross carved out of Blue Lace Agate, and this one got great results every time!
I later had a wooden rosary and this one got great results too, even though it was not a pendulum at all!
And here is the weirest thing of all: of all of the pendulums I've had the three that worked best after the 2 mentioned above were as follows:
a rosary made of white opal glass beads
a rosary made out of red plastic beads
a rosary made out of blue and pink plastic heart beads
So I don't know what it is, but for some reason crosses, crucafixes, rosarys, and prayer beads work better for me than actual pendulums do! I simply can not explain it at all, it just is.
I've tried lots of different items - crystals, gemstones, metals, woods, plastics, glass, pedulums, pendents, everything. And over the years I have found that the best gemstone for me to use is Blue Lace Agate, Tiger'sEye, or Goldstone and that these gems cut into a cross shape are even better.
I think the best way I can describe why some gems work for me and why certain shapes work, is that it has something to do with the vibrational energy given off by my body and by the stone. My personal energy is more attune ti certain stones and shapes than others.
I guess my point here is, that you will find yourself attracted very strongly to certain stones and those are the ones that are going to work best for you, because of the good posative attraction there is between you and the stone. Because of this what works for me may not work for you at all. Your best bet is to therefor go with your gut feeling and than try several differant stones as well, until you find the one that works best for you. It's a trail and error process, but well worth it.

I have a wide variety of pendulums that I have acquired over the years, and I find the one that gives me the best results every time is a labradorite merkaba star on a silver chain.
I have never thought to use a rosary, but I will give it a try after reading this! :-)

basically a pendulum is a tool which helps you use your subconsious mind/aura/whatever to attain certain information. otherwise it's just a pretty bauble on a chain. so a rosary/cross/crucafix that you are using is actually a pendulum. just not the ones used traditionally.
