As a preface, I almost never remember my dreams. I wake up either not remembering anything of the night, or having vague impressions of color or a symbol, but I almost never remember dreams in intricate detail.

A few night ago I had a dream in black and white. I was sitting on the edge of a river bank and it was snowing. I was looking into a forest of evergreens and an assortment of leafless trees. Suddenly I saw a boy among all the trees and he smiled at me. Then he sprouted roots, and slowly grew into an enormous leafless tree, but he was still smiling. I kept sinking deeper into the snow.

Is this a story that I could have read somewhere or did my mind come up with it? It's been bothering me for a while now and I thought maybe you guys would be able to shine some light on the situation.

Ovid wrote a poem about a couple that were turned into trees upon their "death" so that they would not have to see the other die. See the story of Baucis and Philemon.

A child turning into a tree can also mean growth.

I am reading about dryads (sp ?) They are the spirits of the trees. Every tree has one and they take care of the tree during it's life. They can look human and tall or present themselves in other images.

Do you think it could be a spirit of a tree ? Is there a tree you are particularly drawn to in your garden or somewhere else ?
