It's different in different countries.
In Australia you need to be 18 years old, or have parantal permission, then all you do is go to the Offcie of Births, Death and Marriages, fill out aform, hand over $25 dollars and hey presto, new birth certificate and new name :) I changed all three of my names about 6 years ago, and am probably going to change my surname again soon.

nothin's wrong. My middle name just doesn't suit me. Okay I'll explain further. My current middle name is Michelle. I was named after my dad, Michael. (my birthname was M.A., then when I was 4, my mom switched it to A.M.). I was called Michelle and Shelly for a time, but everyone, even then said it didn't suit me, so they called me A. Now, my father's middle name was/is Leon. I would like to, one day, change it to Leona. I'm a leo, my dad's middle name is Leon, so it would still follow the slight family tradition of girls being named after their fathers, also my 'grandfather' is named Leonard. I'd rather be named after him. Pretty much it's a personal decision thing. I don't really like the name Michelle anyways. I could go for Michelleona. Keep mine, and add the new one at the same time. It's also gonna take me a while to decide if I want bowling alley intials AMF, or ALF. My friends would never let me live the ALF initials down.

Slightly off-topic:
My initials are AMF! They're good initials!
I've never really liked my name, personally, but I can't imagine changing it. I think it's cool, though. I could stand to change my last name, but I'll probably never do it.
[/Off-topic response] :D

Yes AMF are indeed good initials. I also just realized some people might pronounce Michelleona, Michelle-ohna. Instead of Michelle-leona. *thinks a bit* I could always get a lil' yellow (Tan) hamster and call it Leona.
I likes it. (the idea)

I actually once wanted to switch my first and middle name...but I like my first name now. I've learnt to love it since I started on my path, actually. Long story... *runs around trying to catch up on posts*

A.M., that's the same with me. My given name's Erin, which wasn't a common name in Scotland until recently, and when I was younger I used to hate that people couldn't spell it (I know, not difficult, is it?) and would ask me about the name, where it came from, etc.
When I started on my Path I found out that having a name like Erin is great as it reflects my Celtic heritage and ancestors. I love my name now.

Yeah... hey presto for you... I wanted to change my surname a few years back (quite a few years back), but all confudzled because I wasn't born here (in Australia that is).
As a result, I still have the surname...
