I didn't post this elsewhere because i figured i'd get a quicker responce here...
here's the story... the other day, someone mentioned something to me abotu a mirror world, so i was kinda curious... i've heard a few different thingsabout mirrors, so i was standing in my bathroom gazing into the mirror, i don't know how long, and i'm not realyl sure what i was aming to do, but suddenly i got a weird chill, then my image turned a ghastly, blueish whiteish purple color and seemed to drifted toward me... it freaked me out and i lept backward...
iwas just curious as to see if anyone has anythoughts about this... wheter or not i was attacked by a spirit or jjsut hallucenating...
someone told me "oh my gods! dont to is again, a demon tried to suck up your soul and drag you deep into the mirror where you can never escape!" i sorta went... ooooookay... but i realize anyhting is possible

Mirrors aren't dangerous, and don't house demons.
Some people believe they are doorways for spirits, especially if they face doors, and that's why some use mirrors for scrying by candlelight.

i knew they weren't dangerour... i know they are a window of oppertunity and spirits, and i've heard abotu a mirror world of some kind... i'm jsut wondering why my reflection would have done that... because it actually looked more liek something coming up through my reflection, rather then just my reflection... so i want to try it again... but i don't knwo if i want to be alone when doing so...

I would guess it was just your imagination - only because that's the reason I don't stare into mirrors - I tend to see my face contorted or my eyes going weird. *shrugs* I just assume it's that spooky vibe I'm thinking of reflecting back at me to do funny things, much like after you watch a scary movie and you swear everything in the dark is a monster, ya know?

Well, my question would be, was it an old mirror? I have several mirrors in my house that are over 100 years old, and one of them every now and then does scare people - I've had friends who knew nothing about the history of the mirror comment that looking in it, they saw the shadow of what looked to be a Victorian woman. It's happened on so many occasions among unconnected people that we've now decided that for whatever reason, the mirror still sometimes shows images of its past like an old TV show.

i've honestly got no idea... it certainly doesn't look that old, its got simple wood framing, not indication that it was even made for show, the mirror was here when we moved in 2 (3) years ago?
i'm debating trying again though....

I use mirrors fot divination all the time I start staring in them and at first I get a blurry vision and then then I get shapes and faces or whatever it is I'm looking into the mirror for. If you want to try it again I would suggest that you sit down and make sure you dont get disturbed by phone or people walking in also keep pen and paper so that you can write down what you saw and how you felt How you felt just before you started, time days etc. you build up quite an amazing diary this way.

I heard that in some old myths Lilith used mirrors to suck up girls' souls.. So if the girl would look herself a lot in the mirror that would mean that she is being attracted by Lilith (have no clue whats the source of this.. just remember that Lilith was refered in it as a demon).
Another thing I know is this game when you stand in front of the mirror and ask repetedly: "Who am I?" and so on.. And the mirror is supposed to show something other than your reflection..
So, I really don't know what happened to you..
Good luck in your next discovery :sunny:

Now you are all gonna think i'm nuts..but bare with me, ok?
When my sisters and I were younger, much younger, we had a big, older, body sized mirror. My little sister was just standing in front of it, getting ready for bed. She said that the mirror all of a sudden turned all dark and foggy on the inside and a man appeared. He held out his hand and asked for her to come to him. She, and I am SO not kidding, grabbed his hand and walked into the mirror. She said it was very sad there and grey..lots of people walking around with what seemed like lost looks on their faces. She ran back, walked back through, and we got rid of the mirror the next day.
Yes I know it sounds like a scene out of Poltergeist...but it really did happen. She was wide awake..it wasn't a dream or anything.

I'm sure I've read something about getting in between two mirrors being bad for you....not sure where though.
There are a few old legends about saying the name of particular people into a mirror, calling them out, whereupon they'd attack you. Though - being far too curious - I did actually try that once, and nothing happened. Just as well...I don't think I'd like to have my face scratched off somehow!

I always seal my mirrors when ever I move into a place.. I have had a few strange experinces with mirrors and wont mess with them unless they are intended for scrying only. ( I will only use hand held mirrors for this ) In the old days and sometimes still they cover all the mirrors in the house when someone dies so the souls of the dead wont have there souls sucked into and there for trapper forever. You can belive me or not but I have seen a few "Trapped souls" in my life and they are pretty scary If you dont know what they are..

Hmmm. I'm not sure I believe that a soul can be "trapped" - I suspect that what happens is more like what some parapsychologists think hauntings actually are - something about them sort of acts like a psychic VCR and replays images from the past.
As for mirror divination - it's very common, historically. It is very prevalent in medieval and Renaissance tradition. The Ceremonial Magician and astrologer to Queen Elizabeth I, Dr. John Dee, specialized in it. One of his mirrors, a black one made of obsidian is on display at the British museum.
Mirrors also play major divinitory roles in folklore and myth. Think about Snow White, The Snow Queen, The Mirror of Venus in Roman mythology, Beauty and the Beast, lots of goddesses have magic mirrors in various traditions and almost all are used either for purposes of glamory of some sort or divination of some sort.

what about showing past lifes...
i decided after reading the first few posts, that it wasn't going to be that dangerous, and besides, i was waaaay to curious... so i went into my garage and grabbed a medium sized squared mirror, wiped off the glass, and pictured energy lacing across the front of it.. then i set it up again that wall, sat cross legged in front of it, and... well i don't really want to saw stared...
so i "gazed" into the mirrow, rather looking into my own eyes... afer a while my vision went a bit fuzzy, and things about myself started to change... at first i saw my hair grow longer and very black, my skin seemed a bit paler, and i was wearing a headband, with a feather upside down to the left side of my head (right side in the mirror)
my frist thought was elf... but then, i seemed to keep thinking indian... i don't know if there is a way to clarify, but it seemed like a past life possibility
Next, i became very catlike, my gourm seemed to shift, grow smaller and darker, i could still see my acctauly self in the backgrounbd, but i did see my fetures start to sink down....
curious indeed...
no evil spirits trying to attack me...
Blessed be

What you're doing is called "scrying" but as with any divination, you need to really focus to translate the meaning. You might want to post in the divination forum to see what kind of response you get.
Off hand, you could be picking up anything from you past to your future, events that happened where you are now years ago, or something that is a symbolic message for your life from you uunconscious mind, like a dream, or the same kind of message about your life as a form of symbolic precognition. There are many, many possibilities. Perhaps you should start writing down what you see in a journal, and referring to it later, as symbols may seem to make more sense.

all this talk about mirrors reminds me of bloody mary and the extreme fear i had of her when i was younger. i took out all the mirrors in my room... and since they seem to "see" they remind me of eyes.... it s a superstition that a marriage couple looking at themselves in a mirror in full bridal outfits after the wedding ensures a long happy life. there was also a movie that i dont know the name of about a girl going into another dimension of sorts through a looking glass and it wasnt alice in wonderland.
it seems strange that so much could come out of a peice of glass with reflective stuff on tha back of it. heh
ok i just posted alot of randomness at least it was relavent
tee hee !

Wow, interesting things..
Mirrors sometimes give me a chill.. not cos I'm worried about being sucked into them.. but in lots of movies you see things in mirrors that you don't see with your eyes.. or at least you see them in mirrors first.
I guess.. if something can be seen in a mirror and not normally, I don't think I want to know about it. *giggle*
I LOVED the Poltergeist movies. Watched 'em while my dad slept (he was supposed to watch it with me) and my mom did crosswords, when I was six. Favorite movies. Lots of death surrounds them, though. :(
