We always talk about history of our country, history of our religion or history of any civilization. But do you ever think or talk about the history of your family?
I am sure it must be connected to something civilized and historical too.
Do you want to share?

My famely left Wales & landed in Virginia in 1643. In 1820 some moved to Ohio. In 1861 some of the ones in Adames Co. joined the Ohio Volenteers. My side in Pike Co. refused to fight the South because we still had kinfolk there. We were called Copperheds by the other people in Ohio.

Here in america, my family has a rather twisted history. I have ancestors who have been in the Revolutionary war, Cival war, WWI, II, Vietnam, and Korea.

In London, my Family have been members of the Royal Philharmonic Society from its founding in 1813 untill the present. in 2012 we will be celibrating our 200th jubellie (anniversary)

I am proud of that heritage, and also take pride in supporting the RPS even tho I am not a musician. My 3rd Great Grandpa was a Dance Master there before he immigrated to America in the mid 1800's
His father (my fourth great grandpa) was a Violin Instructor and also performed with his Brothers (my great uncles) in the yearly symphonies at Westminster Abbey. My 5th Great Grandfather was the Honorary Librarian between founding and up until his death in the 1830's He is mentioned in the 100 year history of the society

My family is primarily Italian, British and German. My grandfather was German physicist who further developed theories on thermodynamics, his uncle was the Red Baron. From what I do know, we're originally of Prussian descent, and our direct line started with the bastard, then legitimized, child of a Lord/Baron. Our lineage has since been blessed with the lowercase "von" which in German/Prussian is defines nobility, as opposed to the capitalized "Von" which just means "from."

My grandmother also claims to be related to the vacuum Dysons, but then again she claims to have married a duke, but can't remember his name and tries to play it off as if he wanted everyone to call him "The Duke." So we take her stories with a grain of salt.

I'm technically first generation American on my father's side, and, I believe, 2nd on my mother's (her father was born in Italy). I have ancestors who fought in World War I and II but most of my family left before Hitler's rise to power (we had some Jewish relatives).

interesting QW

My Grandma's family were Russian Jews and came over in the early 1900's

on my grandfather's side, my 2nd great grandpa Married a Garrison, she was the decendant of the marrige between the Woodruff/Cornwell and Lee/Garrison lines.

I was told by my grandpa that we were decendants of General Robert E Lee, but unfortunately I have not been able to go beyond my 4th great Grandparents on the Lee Side, (James Lee and Sara Ann Brawner)

I love to know more about my distant ancestors. I am 100% puertorican, so in my blood runs that of Spanish explorers, African slaves and Native Islanders. I wish I knew more or had a way to dig back. With the nature of a small island though, records are basically non existent. My own Grandfather was unsure of his exact birthday since he was born at home and he wasnt recorded as a birth until a kind of "census" taker came about a few times a year. He was born anywhere from March to July of 1908. Lol.

Im envious of those that can trace bloodlines back a few hundred years.

On my mother's side I am German and Norwegian. Grandma was a Weber the best anybody knows about this side of the family is that they were Pensylvania Dutch (Amish), and at some point were ex-communicated from that community. My Great-Aunt, Sister Ceclia (from Dayton, MN) was a Catholic Nun, specializing in music. My Great-Aunt Ann was a teacher in the 1-room school house in Dayton, MN. She walked 5 miles 1 way to school to teach the kids grades 1-6. Grandpa Nordquist was Norwegian, not much has been passed to me from his side of the family, however, I do know he faught in WWI (I think).
My Father's family is French and Norwegian. Grandma Hauan was a Joyer. She was 1st generation here from just outside Oslo, Norway. I have a great-aunt who is a civil rights and gay rights lawyer in Bloomington, MN. I have an uncle who was in (I forget) vietnam or korea. My father was a merchant marine. Grandpa Hauan was first generation here from just outside Paris, France. I wish I knew more about my family on both sides, but I hope that will come soon enough. I just met my father about 7 years ago. My father's family are rebels and well known by police across the country. They are Catholic on both sides. Sorry I will eventually find out more.

On my father's side I am French and Romanian. On my mother's side I am Celtic and Scandinavian. I am very proud of my heritage on both sides of my family.
My maternal grandfathers family, the Dorough's came to Jamestown, Virginia around the turn of the 17th century from Dublin, Ireland. My maternal grandmothers family, the Hastings came to Dunmore, Virginia in 1735 from Isle Heston, Auchencairn Bay, Kircubdnlghtshire, Scotland. Her family was pretty much one of the richest families in Scottish history.
My paternal grandfathers family, the Hibbert's came to Mt. Clemens, Michigan in 1913 from Assumption Sandwich, Windsor, Ontario, Canada. His family was originally from Saint Brieuc, Cote-du-Nord, France.
I have not been able to research my paternal grandmother's family history yet. But seemed more than likely that her family originated in France too because their name was Socie.

The only surviving photo I have is as early as 1898 of my great great grandparents. Most of my family can be traced back to Norman occupation of Kent... so roughly to the 10th century or near then or after I do not know. I have a family member who was said to be a Knight of Leicester given a seal by King Richard in the 12th century. Other then all that I don't know much.
