For spells, you would want to use the plant. the kind that people smoke or chew is too processed and has too much other junk added (tar, cyanide, sugar, etc....) I'm sure you wouldn't want to use that other crud in your spell.

You can buy natural organic tobacco leaves in some health food stores. Not very common but it is available. I wouldn't recomend using regular tobacco as it does contain all sorts of chemicals. If you can't find organic tobacco, let me know if you need a substitution.

Heh! I guess it's not really considered an "health" item! I've seen it in a couple of health/herbal stores. I know Richters sells the seeds to grow your own. I tried last year but didn't have any luck. I'm going to try again this spring.

hmm, that makes me curious.
Is tobacco smoke nearly as harmful, without all the chemicals in it?

Or you could try a plant nursery. Look for a Nicotiana species. They have very pretty flowers.

I don't smoke but I've been told that natural tobacco is not as harmful in that it doesn't contain the chemicals that would make you addicted. I think the key is moderation. Overdoing anything would be harmful.
You might be able to replace tobacco with another member of the nicotina family for magic and spell work BUT I would not recomend trying to smoke any of the alternative plants!

American Spirit is the brand of cigarettes/loose tobacco that my husband smokes. I've left it for spirits as an offering before. It's pretty clean.
