Hi,
Yesterday it was suggested that I post about OBE in the Paranormal section but it prompted me to post a thread about a similar subject on NDE (near death experiences).
There are different forms of having an OBE or Out of Body Experience. Tiredness and near sleep can cause someone to have an OBE as well as a light dream. Meditation can cause an OBE as well as under the influence of certain drugs I heard of. Can anything else cause an OBE? If so what does it feel like? Did you see anything while undergoing an OBE? Is having an OBE similar to astral travel? Is it real or imagination?
Post about your OBE experiences and views about OBE's.

After some times I began exploring, scratched my fathers bald head while he slept in his own bed, he dident notice anything...
Now times I dont want to have OBE when I wake up so I abort them

My first and only OBE was when I was a seven. I was being abused (won't go into details), but can clearly remember leaving my body and floating above it, detached and observing the situation below....Strange, and yet probably a really good coping mechanism for what was going on at the moment.

Aside from sleepiness/tiredness, meditation and near death, I can only think of mental survival (as in the case of many people who've survived a traumatic physical/emotional event), and psychological disorders causing OBE.
I know that may sound totally weird, but it happens to me with more frequency than I care to have. I've got schizoaffective disorder, which, the best way I can explain it is it's the asperger's of schizophrenia (IE: one is high functioning and usually has a better understanding of the symptoms of their disorder [for instance, I'm perfectly aware that some of the things I see/hear or where my very impulsive thoughts originate, but I'm unable to not freak out about it/act crazy about it. It's really rather frustrating.]).
I have dissociative episodes and while mostly, these are feelings of not being real and or being detached from the world around me (most of the time, I either don't feel like I'm real/anything is real, or I feel like I'm lucidly dreaming), I frequently have OBE's while in a dissociative state. I can see myself moving about/talking/whatever as if I were watching a movie.

Thanks so much for sharing your OBE stories.
Although I have been astral travelling via sleep and meditation. I was close to dying in the past and I can remember having a near death experience. It wasn't done deliberately. I don't think I've had the type of OBE that people say they have (when they simply make themselves do this). I haven't witnessed myself outside of my body. I've tried practising an OBE but either fall asleep quickly or can't relax anymore. Some people have noticed hearing very loud noises and getting vibrations when they do an OBE.

You may want to try inducing lucid dreaming (http://www.world-of-lucid-dreaming.com/sleep-paralysis.html) instead of outright shooting for an OBE. Sleep paralysis is one of the side effects (and indeed, you need to SP) of the process of voluntarily going into a dream lucidity and often times, while I'm SPing, I'll have an OBE for a bit. Once you've had an OBE in an SP state, it's a lot easier to do it during meditation and suchlike.
