I have some questions that have been repeating themselves in my mind. Is it possible to be contacted by a god/goddess who hasn't been recorded in history by any particular pantheon? And how can you differentiate between a god/goddess and a spirit guide, or angel when you are recieving visions?

Hi!
Is it possible to be contacted by a god/goddess who hasn't been recorded in history by any particular pantheon?
I definitely think it's possible-that's why I'm writing my own mythology. Although I'm the one writing it, I don't believe I'm 'making the deities up' or anything. After all, I'm sure there were many cultures that left no written record behind, and even in ones with written records there were probably 'cults' that didn't believe in writing things down. Plus, I personally believe that just because a god/goddess hasn't been worshipped historically doesn't make them any less real. :)
And how can you differentiate between a god/goddess and a spirit guide, or angel when you are recieving visions?
This one I'm not as sure about . . . it's been my experience that I just kind of know what they are. If you're not sure, you can always ask! :)
Hope this helps you out a little!

That would depend on your beliefs. Some people believe all Gods are just facets of All, and thus deity could take any form at any time to reach them. Others see the deities as individuals, and thus it might be hard to imagine not knowing them, although some believe that spirits reincarnate and can reach God level, and so maybe the God that wasn't known to exist before has become a God since. It's hard to define exactly what makes a God and how we know them.

You can ask. You can do research to find any Gods that might fit the specs you have. At the same time the most important thing to ask yourself is why you want to know - if you experience a spiritual connection with an entity, do you have to know whether it's a god or a guide? At what point does it matter? I find people try to hard to label and classify and sometimes lose the magic of the moment entirely.
Ideally you can decide what makes a God and if the entity you're speaking of meets those requirements, if you must know. I'd be more likely to assume it's not a God until it proves otherwise.
