Hi,
I am looking for a recipe for an herbal arthritis ointment.
My dear granny used to make this but I do not have her formula and she recently passed away.
It contained comfrey, and I believe mint, but that is all I am sure of.
Any help with this or any similar recipes for arthritis would be appreciated.
Thanks.

WildChild is our ointment wizard she should have an answer for you. If she doesn't post in the next two days I would drop her a PM.

I posted a recipe a while back for something similar - it didn't have comfrey or mint in it but it works fairly well.

That's a great recipe, MoonRaven. The heat generated by the various peppers helps the arthritis. The only caution I would add is make sure you don't touch your face after massaging...especially the area around your eyes!
I think I have a couple of other recipes too. I'll do that tonight.

Thanks for your input and help, everyone. I am going to make the ointment this weekend. It is for my dear husband, so I will let you know what he thinks of it.
Thanks again!

I was reading something today that was saying that celery and celery seed is useful for arthritis, and apparently helps to break up calcium deposits that cause some arthritis pain.
I don't know how much truth there is to this, but if it works, you'll want to be sure you REALLY ARE getting celery seed, as many spice companies use lovage seeds, since the plant produces them so.. what's the word... abundantly, and it tastes the same.

Thanks again for all your help.
My hubby has been using the ointment for a little while now, and he definitely likes it and feels that it is a big help.
We both thank you!

Did you find the recipe with comfrey? Which salve did you use? I checked my recipes and they were very similar to the one MoonRaven posted.
As a supplement, you might want to look into the properties of ginger and pineapple. I've read of a study where people were given 7gms of ginger a day and had about 75 percent of the participants reporting some relief of pain and swelling.

Hi,
I used the recipe that MoonRaven had posted, with the peppers in it.
I like the ginger idea - do you think crystallized ginger would work? My hubby likes to eat that as a snack - If I bought some he would definitely eat it.
