As Discordians one thing we do take pretty serious is an even playing field. I have noticed in some places where we have been dismissed even though we are simply trying to participate in discussions.

We do not always troll of even try to cause a disturbance. Many times we just want to have discussions with other people just to help us keep an open mind and to see what others are thinking.

Many times we have to take open harassment or ridicule or open baiting while site leaders seem to be waiting for us to respond just wrong. In cases like this it feels like we are as a group forced to walk on egg shells and have different standards applied to us.

This has the potential to anger us as a group.

Well said CB. If I can refrain from openly insulting other posters in these threads, (And it's difficult at times) then so can anyone else.

Yes, it often is difficult as we home at a barely modded forum. I can't begin to tell you how many posts I have edited over and over just to stay within a given sites rules.

What makes it worse, is when you see others who can flout the rules with impunity, whereas the slightest rule bend gets you an infraction. What's that all about then?

We face the perception of being bad people.

We face the perception of being bad people.
Just because we are bad people, doesn't mean we don't know how to conduct ourselves properly. And I'm sure there are other bad people on this site who get treated better than we do.

I disagree that you two are bad people. Ok, CB isn't bad people. KK, you are a filthy horrible person.

Be that as it may, I am sickened, disturbed and annoyed at certain other posters here. So, much that I rarely even lurk here. Considering I came here independantly of my Discordian brethren to get more information on spiritual matters, that says a lot.

If I am filthy, it is because I know that to fight the enemy, we must climb down into the pit where he lives. And he's not the most spiritually hygienic of adversaries. But thanks for the support.:boing:

I suppose to me, and the primary reason I was attracted to Discordianism was the response to injustice. Sure, most of us have gotten so heated that we have flounced at one time or another from our home board.

We always come back though. It's the like mindedness and the level of intelligence that is found there that is the attraction.

If you were to ask 10 of us what a Discordian is you will very likely get 12 different answers. But there is common ground. A lot of it.

While I recuse myself from the intelligence found I still admire the Occams Razor scenario between insanity and genius.

You're a Discordian?? Well look at that, no wonder we fight so much. The plural of Discordian is argument. :D

Well, anyways, perception is all part of the fun. What's the point of being a Discordian if we don't get plenty chance to completely disprove everything everyone believes about us? Walk into a forum, get labeled a troll almost immediately, and then proceed to post decently, which confuses everyone, thus accomplishing the Holy Work of Eris Fnord. Well, some of us do.

Honestly, I don't think Discordians do deserve the troll label. A Discordian, by nature, thinks differently to most people, and many people are far too emotionally attached to their beliefs. The first Discordian I met, the one who issued me my very own pope card, (which i promptly lost), was one of the most brilliant minds I've come across on the interwebs. All of his posts were a pleasure to read, kinda like Sundragon here, but his tendency to take the side of an unpopular argument made him most unpopular. An example: he would be a 6-day-creationist in a thread about evolution. I'm sure this wouldn't have caused as much trouble as it did if he actually had weak arguments, but the problem was he would go and wipe the floor with everyone else with such reason and logic no one could fault him. This upset everyone, so they said, "Look at that, see we knew it, all Discordians are trolls!" Load of codswallop.

Personally I'd venture the theory that Discordians, by nature, challenge every belief, especially their own. Unfortunately, this seems to upset a lot of people.

Of course, there's also those who call themselves Discordians because they can be trolls and get away with it. They are, of course, still Discordians as much as you and I am, because they say they are, and who are we to tell them any different?

If I may quote from the famous Discworldian philosopher Didactylos, "It's a rum old world all right. But you've got to laugh, haven't you? Nil Illegitimo Carborundum is what I say. The experts don't know everything. Still, where would we be if we were all the same?"
